About a month ago, we brought you the news that 1996's classic point-and-click adventure Broken Sword was getting a remaster in the form of Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged, and today marks its release date!
Yes, the game is launching for Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S at a price of £24.99 / $29.99, and the good news is that the reviews have been fantastic so far - although the majority have been for PC as things stand.
Here's a look at some of those reviews:
TheGamer (9/10)
"Reforged has raised the bar to breathe new life into the game, reworking the original assets to maintain authenticity, addressing small plot holes, and most importantly, it sets a new standard for how to make point-and-clicks more accessible in this modern day when players are less forgiving with their time and patience."
GameSpew (9/10)
"Its visuals have been lovingly updated, and while there are some issues with the game's audio, this is undoubtedly the best way to experience George Stobbart's debut adventure. It's just a shame there aren't any extras."
God Is A Geek (8/10)
"Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged makes a classic point-and-click worth playing almost thirty years on, with stunning visuals and engaging gameplay."
Gameliner (8/10)
"Now visually completely overhauled, Revolution Software's iconic point-and-click adventure sets off to cater to the modern audience, as well as the die-hard fan of the series. The latter may unfortunately consider it a tough sell since Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged doesn't bring any new material to the table, but if you're new to the franchise, this is the ultimate edition to get drawn into the mystery."
Now, as mentioned, although Reforged is launching to excellent reviews, we still haven't actually seen any specific Xbox reviews for it as of yet - the only one above that's for a console version (PS5) is by GameSpew. We can't imagine you'll run into any issues on Xbox though, and apparently the console controls are perfectly fine.
The Metacritic score currently sits at 83, and it'll be interesting to see how much higher or lower the average goes when more reviews start rolling in. Ultimately though, this feels like a pretty safe bet if you're interested in picking it up!
