Welcome to Gamescom week! We've got a busy few days of events ahead, kicking off with Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday and finishing with the final of three daily livestreams being hosted by Xbox on Friday.
Xbox has already revealed the lineup of games set to feature in each of these daily Gamescom streams, but the official description on YouTube also mentions that we'll be getting "more than a few surprises" along the way.
Here's what the description says for day one (on Wednesday), for example:
"Day 1 is packed with exclusive gameplay walkthroughs and developer interviews around Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred, Diablo Immortal, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Starfield: Shattered Space, Atomfall and Age of Mythology: Retold. Plus all new looks at DRAGON BALL Sparking! ZERO, Overwatch 2, Forza Horizon 5, Forza Motorsport, Let's Build a Dungeon and more than a few surprises and special guests!"
So, what could these surprises be? Looking back at last year, there were multiple announcements on each day relating to things like indie releases, DLC and Xbox Game Pass reveals - the likes of SteamWorld Build and Headbangers: Rhythm Royale were both announced last year. We're assuming it'll be a similar situation this time around.
In other words, don't go expecting anything too crazy - if we are to get any major reveals, they'll probably come via Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday. Nevertheless, it sounds like these Xbox streams will be worth watching.
Rest assured you won't miss anything here at Pure Xbox - we'll be recapping all the big events of the week including the three Xbox livestreams, and you can also watch them here at Pure Xbox (with a live chatroom!) if you want to.
What are you hoping to see from Xbox at Gamescom 2024? Tell us in the comments down below.

Let’s just hope that those surprises are not all games going off to PS5!
Am hoping for Steam on Xbox! That would be epic! Do it Xbox!
Somehow, someway give me Marvel vs Capcom Collection on Xbox.
I'd bet pretty heavy on there being a new controller being revealed, something akin to an Elite controller version 3 or whatever was hinted at with the big courtroom leaks. My only reason for this educated guess is that Amazon Woot slashed the prices on new Elite Controller 2, from about $175 to $119.

@MjJmediablogger
if you want steam, get a PC.
Steam on the console would kill the console experience and turn it into a weak PC
@MjJmediablogger sounds like it? Why talk about Forza Horizon 5 in 2024 otherwise? Got to be at least one of the ports right?
@x3King84 Would think so. But whatever it is will make Xbox loads more money. And that is all they are really bothered now.
@x3King84 The Forza forums has this official post about a new game mode:
"FH5 at Gamescom 2024
See you at Gamescom!
Our booth will be showing a completely new, exciting game mode inspired by our community and their creations.
Plus, we will also be showing our latest in-game partnership!
Visit us at Gamescom and stay tuned to our official channels for more announcements happening at the event.
Tune in August 21 for FH5 on the Xbox @ gamescom Livestream"

The game probably will come to PS5 at some point but unlikely to be announced this week.
@Grumblevolcano fair enough. Thanks.
@MjJmediablogger I can see both sides. It’s a kick in the teeth to loyal customers but ultimately Xbox won’t win the console war/be viable in 3rd place. They’ve such a huge catalogue of IP why not sell it? I’d love FH5 on PS5.
But it comes at a cost… why buy an Xbox at all? I think that’s their strategy to move out of hardware and they know how to make money so they must know.
[Don’t mention Windows Phone]
Shame Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo don’t make one console!
@Murray As of today, the PC and console experience is very similar.
The PC has become simpler and more automated, and the console has become more complicated with installations and configurations.
There is still a difference, but over time I think it is inevitable that they will become indistinguishable, in fact I think that consoles in 10-20 years will no longer exist.
Some shadow drops are always nice 🙂
I think Final Fantasy 16 will be announced for Xbox with PS exclusivity ending, SE saying they want to do more multiplats and plenty of rumors swirling about it.
And, yes, Square announced the PC version but I think the Xbox announcement would be during one of the console’s own events.
Playground games just expanded its team, maybe bringing Forza Horizon 5 to PS5 helps pay for that new overhead. Sure seems to be the only reason. It’s a guess but it seems to make sense.
@Nightcrawler71 That's the only news I'm waiting for from this sweet pic by the way👍
@Pabpictu
on consoles every game has
-xbox achievements
-cloud saves with sync between devices
-everything works with controller
on PC
controller support for games/store depends on games and store
thats not very similar to me
@Murray Completely agree, the reason why I keep playing some games on console is because on PC some games have another achievement system, or no achievements at all.
However, most people don't care if the saves are synchronized in the cloud or if the games don't have achievements.
Actually, if you think about it, the concept of console has already disappeared, consoles were to put a cartridge and play, now they have an OS, they have downloads, installations, patches, configurations... actually consoles are already low end gaming PCs with a fairly well adjusted price.
@Scummbuddy Well I was wrong about any new Xbox controller released/announced at Gamescom. :/
