We seem to be hearing quite a lot about next-gen in 2024, don't we? Xbox set the tone earlier this year by revealing that it was working on a new console featuring "the largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation" - and now the team is hiring new job roles to back that mission statement up.
Posting on its devblog, Microsoft is hiring for multiple engineering roles over at Team Xbox. We have open roles for Xbox Audio & Video, but it's the team's Xbox Graphics job description that's sounding very intriguing indeed.
Here's a snippet from that listing:
"The Xbox Graphics team is seeking talented engineers who are excited to work on state-of-the-art graphics, compression, and emulation systems. Our diverse team works at the intersection of hardware and software to provide industry-leading game development technology. Working closely with hardware engineers and game developers, we define the future of graphics and game development."
'Defining the future' certainly falls in line with that 'huge technical leap' line we heard from Sarah Bond back in February, and we're already getting excited for what the team is cooking up over at Xbox HQ. The Series X is still an impressive bit of kit, but we can't help getting a little giddy about what's next.
Speaking of what's next, well, it could end up being two things if recent rumours are anything to go by. There's been chatter this week that Xbox could drop a handheld console alongside a Series X successor for its next-gen lineup. As for when that lineup arrives, we don't know yet, but we seem to be inching ever-closer to finding out more about Xbox's next-gen plans.
