As part of a busy preview period for the industry in and around Gamescom, multiple outlets have gone hands on with Konami's Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and these previews have delivered some new-gen tech specs for the upcoming MGS3 remake.
Over at VGC, the team previewed the game recently, where they were greeted with two gameplay modes as part of the demo. These were a 4K / 30FPS mode, and a 1080p / 60FPS mode. These two options seemingly apply to Xbox Series X and PS5 according to multiplayer.it, which you'd expect given the similar horsepower available on the two machines.
Now, Konami's upcoming remake is running on Unreal Engine 5, so that may go some way to explaining these figures. UE5 titles seem quite heavy on current-gen consoles, so we're not surprised to see a 1080p figure here in performance mode. Still, we think these are respectable figures given how good the remake looks.
As for Xbox Series S, we're not seeing any specifics for that console just yet regarding MGS3. However, you can probably expect these figures to be a chunk lower on the base Xbox Series system - we just hope some sort of performance modes remains intact for Series S users!
What you do think to these MGS3 tech specs? Tell us your thoughts down below.

As long as it is a consistent 60 then i'm happy enough with 1080p
My TV does a pretty good job upscaling 1080p content so as long as the visuals are impressive (which they look to be so far) and the 60fps holds up well I’m okay with this.
Seems unreal 5 really hits consoles.
Glad there is a 60fps but down at 1080p seems a little steep.
This is sometimes why studios with their own developed engines come out on top, especially if it is for a specific console.
Huh, another 3rd party that can do 60fps for those that want it.
Strange that
I do like the options 'seems' to be just reducing the frame rate to hit 60fps. (I have a 1440p monitor)
I dislike that most performance modes are turning off most of the graphical effects. I bought a series X I want the games to look better than on my One X. Note: I'm not saying graphics are more important, I would just like the option of reduces res not graphics to get the those extra frames.
That's some decent options take note Microsoft games can do performance modes unlike avowed I'll give hellblade 2 a pass because it looks that astonishing
@OldGamer999 I think it's going to continue to be a problem until developers start shipping games using Unreal 5.4
I remember Alex of at Digital Foundry showed off The Matrix demo using Unreal 5.4 and the performance gains were pretty significant (50 - 60% boost in performance) when CPU limited - which, is probably the case for a lot of UE5 games on consoles as it's very single-threaded right now.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner yea with an upscaled to 1080p trash version they can...
@GamingFan4Lyf
That’s why developer own engines help using multi threads.
What’s the point of console multi thread CPU if unreal 5 developed games don’t bother using multi threads.
So much in tapped usage not used.
I think unreal 5 will be a let down overall this generation, but will be nice to be proven wrong at some point.
@OldGamer999 I mean...I don't disagree...but honestly, multi-threading has been underutilized since the day multi-core processors were created.
@GamingFan4Lyf
Yes I had heard about this.
Maybe they should cut back on multi cores, speed up the processor or reduce the cost of the CPU.
@OldGamer999 I got to give some extra information to your statement. What you're saying is partly true. Usually the devs that are able to go AAA do indeed use their own engines. Those are highly customized and build to have the key features of what is most important in their games. If ambitious AAA devs decide to go for UE5 it's usually an customized version of that. See it as plugins to support key features of their games. Buiding that is quite the investment so I don't really think that those games have landed on console yet. Or at least there aren't many.
For the case of MGS 3 remake... It's Konami... They don't want to invest a lot in AAA anymore. They even scrapped a lot of MGS and decided to put the cutscenes in pachinko gambling machines. So, I got a hunch that they will use the base version of UE. So yeah, don't expect that Konami will invest in multi-thread support if there's not really a need to. It must look decent enough if you ask Konami.
1080p for 60fps on Unreal 5 games seems like a sacrifice people have to make. Either that or people have to go back to whining about 30fps on modern consoles in 2024.
Feel really bad for developers these days.
I am perfectly content with 1080p. However, if it's 1080p agressivly upscaled from sub-720p or if it's achieving 60fps using frame generation from otherwise unstable 45fps, then it doesn't seem that impressive. Using new technology with bad performance just for the sake of new technology is not a good thing, especially when remaking an old game. If it's such a faithful remake then it retains linear and cramped environment - not an open world or a world with massive hubs. I hope it looks and performs well on the X.
Yay for options, i would rather play even 720p 60fps over 4k 30 anyday
UE5 is heavy even with features turned down.
This game getting a 60fps mode at all on current generation of consoles is an absolute surprise, especially without dynamic 1080p or frame generation like Wukong.
But it still could be dynamic resolution, marketing wording has been ass this console gen.
This gen of consoles was for SSDs not for power.
Maybe PS6/if next Xbox exist will be able to handle UE5 at okay quality/framerates.
