Capcom Fighting Collection 2 Not Announced For Xbox, But Don't Lose Hope Yet

I have the original Capcom Vs Marvel on my 360 and it's superb.

This collection not showing up for the Series consoles is yet another blow for Xbox.

I'd much rather see Beat 'Em Up Bundle 2!

I definitely getting this on Switch. When I was watching the direct, I jumped out of my chair when they said Power Stone 1 and 2 are in the collection.

I still have one of power stone games on Dreamcast.

The amount that Capcom is apparently still using MT Framework is grating at this point, and seems more and more to be Capcom trying to get Microsoft to do some vague begging to them in order to keep getting the retro collections.

Why would you retire support for one platform, that's still active, and keep using the engine this much?

It reminds me of the fact Nippon Ichi has released a lot, including their entire back catalogue, on Playstation and Switch, but has never admitted why only one game got a half-hearted Microsoft Store release on PC.

The sales of games on Xbox don't produce much profit for them.
If this were a platform that encouraged full price game sales and had a larger audience who would consume them, then Capcom would ensure the titles were available, they are not stupid and know how to make money. They also know when not to waste money, and many other smaller game publishers are skipping platforms where they expect low sales - thats business unfortunately.

It's not coming to Xbox, neither is MvC. The guy claiming they are working on it has been throwing tons of random "insider" ideas out there over the last year and most have been wrong. He said he heard that no other MS games including Indiana Jones were going to PS5 as well and that Sony had paid for exclusive rights for Wukong. It's easy to be an "insider" and claim things, if you get them right you look brilliant and if not "didn't work out" All for clicks.

Both Powerstone games would make it day 1 for me. Come on Microsoft make it happen or it's a PS5 purchase.

I don't know anything about this insider, but yeah I don't think this collection will be coming to Xbox at all.

I'm wondering how much it has to actually do with MT Framework for Xbox versions as the first CFC is available on the console.

@Titntin @Decoy_Snake And the problem is that, well, if you don't release games on the platform to begin with, of course you're not going to get good sales figures on the platform.

Square Enix released FFXIV on XBOX Series X|S only a few months ago, and they're extremely pleased with the results. There's quite a lot of people with only XBOX consoles who are practically screaming for Capcom to find a workaround for whatever issue there is.

The Castlevania Dominus Collection released only this week shows that the hardware is more than capable of playing several decade old games, and I believe Power Stone had an XBOX 360 port.

Seriously, before you say 'It's just business', look for yourself at how many different genres, how many different companies, have released in the past decade highly sought after games only on Playstation 5, Switch and Steam. The metrics don't add up, and they haven't for years.

Yeah I don't believe Microsoft is all too bothered. "But games skipping Xbox is bad for consoles" true but so is dropping exclusives. I refuse to believe "classic capcom games skip Xbox" dose more damage than "Xbox first party games coming to PS5"

@Decoy_Snake I suspect its "the MT issues prevents an Xbox version" and more "it cost more to port these games to Xbox than they earn because of the MT issue"

Gee, that might make sense... if NIS ever actually bothered releasing their games on Xbox. You can't say "oh our games wouldn't make any profit on Xbox" without ever actually trying to put games on Xbox in the first place.

This makes even less sense when you consider the fact that NIS puts multiple R-Type, Raiden, and Fallen Legion games on Xbox. Like, why bother putting these games on Xbox but not any of the other games on Xbox? R-Type and Raiden are incredibly niche franchises from an even more niche genre. I'm pretty sure Trails and Ys would actually sell better on Xbox than Raiden 4 Mikado Remix would.

I hope so, there's so many classics on there, it'd be a day one purchase

@Decoy_Snake Must be why Ace Attorney Investigations and Apollo Justice Ace Attorney is only coming to Xbox because it's on Game Pass.

Microsoft could fix this easily: remove the mandate that new releases require a Series version if the game targets X1.

@BlueSheepz I'll happily be wrong and hope my negative stance is wrong on this. If my negativity spurns the games to come to XBox then I'll be the happiest gamer on the planet. I have Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on my 360 so I can still play it. I despise the Switch and PS5 controllers for fighting games, so it's Xbox or bust for me. Again, I want to be wrong.

He definitely did say those things, I'm not going to hunt down the tweets, and he may have deleted them, but there are definitely receipts out there.

@BlueSheepz there both coming to PlayStation & Switch as well, makes way less sense to release a niche Trilogy on Xbox then completely miss some of the biggest fighting game collections.

Whatever the true reason SvC Chaos, MvC Collection, and now this are skipping Xbox. No matter if someone fixes it or not this is 3 game (collections) in a very short time sending out a negative message for Xbox.

@ValentineMeikin Incorrect on PS port unfortunately, I wished it had. It's only ever been on Dreamcast natively, and there was a PowerStone Collection on PSP. That's it.

@ExtremeGamer Yep Jez has been flaky at best even if he did randomly get something right, take someone else's 'leak', or just state something obvious to get Internet points. But he is wrong often too which isn't a good look. Xbox may fix this but officially them nor Capcom have said anything that will lead to the games coming to Xbox. I'd absolutely love to be wrong.

@abe_hikura definitely right it doesn't hurt the brand as much as an exclusive like Indy, financial loss wouldn't be nearly as large. Though a whole community of gamers that love fighting games will just go back to omit the console/brand as a viable platform. And in turn potentially have less reason for Xbox to make another Killer Instinct.

@BlueSheepz Thats will be the engine they use to deliver those games mate. Many engines can simply be recompiled for a different platform with a few clicks. In those instances, its no expense to bring such a title to Xbox. There are several engines though, where its a little more work and I believe that in evaluating the work required to deliver vs the expected sales, sometimes that means they aren't gonna do that work.
Its supposition though on my part, I don't have dev friends working on such titles, so I'm not privy to the facts, just making my own educated guess.

If you want to come up with some crazy conspiracy theory, be my guest. Such decisions are almost always driven by money though, so I find it bizarre to imagine that a company will throw away potential profit because they picked some side, or dislike a platform. Money is the only thing these guys ultimately care about, and every single decision will be driven by it.

@kuu_nousee Agreed. Until Capcom or Microsoft comes out and says "We're investigating if these can come to Xbox" then they just aren't coming to Xbox. I thought for sure if they had supposedly been working on it for awhile now for the MvC Collection, that a 2025 game with no concrete date would have had Xbox branding at the end. Which I can only hope for so long until dreams continue to get dashed.

@BlueSheepz you do realise that NIS etc will have sales data of all the games you listed and would know if it’s worthwhile going forward right?

They try some, see how they sell then decide if it’s worth it for future games.

@ExtremeGamer personally I don’t believe there is the willingness from either MS or Capcom to do the investment.

Sure a handful of people on a gaming site might be interested but it’s not like it’s a massive seller on other platforms.

If there was good money to be made, they would be working on it.

There is a better way to saying "You know, I don't think what you are saying is entirely accurate due to [X]" without being a [expletive] about it - especially since I don't follow all the ins and outs of retro Capcom releases.

I thought I had read a few times that Microsoft required that all new releases had to have a "native" Series X|S version.

Since Series X|S don't natively support the framework - and Capcom has little interest in doing the work due to perceived little to no ROI - that was the reason why MT Framework-based titles are skipping the platform.

That was my basis of my comment.

@PsBoxSwitchOwner 100% agree. Besides the true hardcore fighting game fans like myself, I don't think it's that big of a market for them when you'd poll 100 random gamers. The fact they don't have cross play also makes me think these will die a very quick death. Will be a cool notoriety for a few weeks then people will move on. Kind of feels like how we all were so excited for Goldeneye to come back, it did and we enjoyed it for a hot minute and moved on.

@GamingFan4Lyf From my knowledge you're spot on. There's no PS5 release either because of the framework. MS doesn't truly require an X/S release, but at the same time, it can't support the old framework and release, so it has to be reworked anyway. MS merged everything together and Sony did not, so that's why the PS4 version can come out. Different store, different framework.

I don't know who's to blame at this point... There isn't a native PS5 version of the game either, the PS4 version works via backwards compatibility, so it's obvious this is a problem with the tech Capcom uses but obviously other stuff is going on with MS' platform that isn't with Sony's. Could simply be sales but I've also read in the past that it has to do with some rules MS has in place.

Either way, it's a ridiculous problem that should've been solved by now.

@ExtremeGamer It is an odd state of affairs given that current backwards compatible titles using the MT Framework still work on Series X|S. Plus, only 2 years ago the Capcom Fighting Collection released on Xbox One using MT Framework.

So...something has changed in those 2 years...but what?!

@GamingFan4Lyf From what I understand (and I'm no expert so take this with a giant grain of salt) is that MS ended support for the old framework since then. Same reason we've seen no new BC games. The telling will be what happens when/if MUA 1/2 and Deadpool come back as they have no native X/S version either. Could all be tied together and that gets these collections on Xbox, who knows.

The old games still work! So, the hardware can still translate MT Framework titles and run them with no issues in the backwards compatibility layer.

Does "end support" mean that Microsoft told Capcom they can't use it anymore?!

"end support" to me would mean, "It can't run games that use it." That is absolutely not the case.

So if "end support" just means "don't use it anymore", then, again, it's a policy change for Microsoft that can easily be rectified.

The whole situation is just dumb, really, and further solidifies my decision to ditch consoles all together in favor of the open PC platform where this kind of garbage either doesn't exist or is fixed by the community to ensure people can enjoy the games they love (where "support" ended - e.g. 3DFX, older DirectX titles, etc.).

@InheritNegative I'm glad the MvC Collection is getting made, but I'm more interested if seeing all the hype for it and it doing well (for what it is) gets Digital Eclipse to make collections for the Marvel and Spider-Man games. ... Mostly just for the Beat 'Em Ups just like the TMNT Collection.

It’s not coming, just like the other Capcom and Konami games that have skipped Xbox. It’s just not worth their effort apparently.

I’m fortunate to have the other consoles so luckily I don’t have to miss it. Stuff like this stinks to Xbox only users.

Might be something to think about going forward.

@freddones As has been proven time and time again this year, what execs say to journalists and what they actually do are often two completely different things.
But I don't have a direct view of the future, so you are welcome to believe what you will. I'd like to see all SE games on Xbox, but I don't believe I will. I'd be happy to be wrong.

These collections don't have cross play so they're worthless anyway.
