Amazon's Tomb Raider Game Progressing Well Despite 'Everything Going On With Embracer'

Back in late 2022, Amazon announced that it was working with Crystal Dynamics on a brand-new Tomb Raider game, and despite not hearing much about the project since, it sounds like things are coming along nicely.

In a new chat with IGN, Amazon Games boss Christoph Hartmann discussed some of the company's current projects - including that Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider game. Hartmann says that things are "going well", despite everything that's been happening with the owner of the dev team; Embracer Group.

"People obviously look at what the parent company is doing, but it never impacted on resources, never led to any changes on management for them, so they're fine. I mean, doing a new Tomb Raider, the bar is so high. The longer you go, the expectation goes higher, so it's a huge, huge task, but things are progressing. I mean, there's some really great ideas here,

Obviously, we're not going to share any with you even if we would love to, but things are going well, things are moving forward. And from what I could tell, Crystal was pretty sheltered, because also when you look before...they went through a couple of ownership changes anyway before, it's not brand new for them."

If you're unaware, huge publishing company Embracer Group has gobbled up loads of studios in recent years - one of them being Tomb Raider dev Crystal Dynamics. The group has closed down some of these teams since — and laid off staff at other ones too — but it's sounding like the Tomb Raider team has been safe through all of the changes so far. Phew.

As for the game itself, Hartmann has kept things pretty close to his chest here, and we've still not seen any gameplay since this Tomb Raider reveal almost two years ago. We really dug the recent TR trilogy though, so we're very excited to see more when the team is good and ready to show it off.
