Yesterday was a bit of a crazy one, wasn't it?! Out of nowhere, Xbox quietly announced that Game Pass was getting a price increase starting this week for new subscribers, and it's an increase that affects the vast majority of regions.
However, just because Xbox Game Pass Ultimate now costs £14.99 / $19.99 per-month via Xbox, that doesn't mean you can't find a better deal! In fact, various retailers are offering 1 month of Game Pass Ultimate for a lower price right now, and it should be as simple as redeeming the code and then adding it to your account.
Examples include the likes of CDKeys and Amazon, as well as our very own Pure Xbox codes store:
We say "should", because who knows what plans Microsoft might have in store for the future. As of right now though, this can be a cost-effective way of topping up your Xbox Game Pass subscription at a lower price than going direct.
Also, if you're a new member or your Xbox Game Pass subscription has lapsed, we should mention that Xbox allows you to convert Game Pass Core and PC Game Pass codes at a ratio of 3:2. If you're able to stack a bunch of these at once (up to 36 months' worth), it can work out really well in the long run. Here's more explanation about this:
"When you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, we'll convert any prepaid time you have on Xbox Game Pass or EA Play subscriptions and apply it toward Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at the current conversion ratio, up to a maximum of 36 months. Prepaid time conversion is final and non-refundable, and ratios are subject to change."
"Xbox Game Pass Core and PC Game Pass conversion ratio: Any remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time at a ratio of 3:2 and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of Xbox Game Pass Core or PC Game Pass will convert to 60 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time."
Oh, and don't forget about Microsoft Rewards! If you're dedicated and in an applicable region, you can earn around 10,000 Microsoft Rewards points per-month on Xbox, which is almost enough for a month of Game Pass Ultimate.
As mentioned, you should keep in mind that all of this is subject to change, and Microsoft ultimately has the power to make any adjustments that are deemed necessary. It's also worth highlighting that existing Xbox Game Pass subscribers won't notice any price increases until September 12th, or (presumably) whenever their next billing date is.
So, there you go! As disappointing as price increases can be, a great deal is usually never far away!

I bought 3 years of core using an indian VPN for $60. now i have 2 years of GPU lmao. people complaining dont know how to work the system. Also, do your bing rewards and searches and every month your GPU will be paid for
I stopped doing these "tricks" a long time ago, even with the price increase the service is very cheap for everything it offers and is way above what other services offer.
What bothers me is the confusing communication that Microsoft has with these moves.
I’m stacked as you call it until March 2025 with GPU, did that ages ago from the last sort of stack trick conversion thing.
Once that runs out I shall have to seriously consider what to do.
It’s 2 things that count for me.
Game big AAA quality.
Future full home console hardware under the tv.
@Pabpictu right bro, i am a casual gamer and GPU is still the way to go. What is $20 a month? People spend more money on door dash in a day for lunch in this economy lol
In the UK I often use either CDkeys or Shopto.
The best way to save money is... Drum roll please 🥁🥁...
To not pay it and unsubscribe. Supporting these practices of price hikes and taking things away, charging more for less will have them further pushing the boundaries to see what they can get away with.
I'm just gonna unsubscribe and not buy multiplayer games anymore.
They already have me angry about resubbing to Ultimate from core to play on fire stick, but then I found out in tiny writing on a hard to find link that it only works on the newest model.
I'm done with this.
I will only suscribe for a month now and then when there is something I really want to play.
Getting rid of Game Pass Console is a middle finger for me in particular.
Eneba. I have 2 years saved up and I paid roughly $75 for each year. It's not a scam. Just get the worldwide codes. I've been buying from them for years. If that amount of money scares you off, then compare that to purchasing one game or an entire year of hundreds of games.
When my All-Access ends in October/November, I think I'm done.
I enjoy gamepass way too much to throw a tantrum about price hikes. CD keys keeps the price low 👍
@Fishticon Yeah exactly it's total bull crap I'm sure it could of worked for older model fire sticks if they wanted the new ones couldn't be that much more powerful if even!
@HeavyHoggJP
I don't use door dash. I tried once with a discount code I got from Disney movie club and they aren't available in my rural area.
I also don't eat lunch... Most times I don't eat breakfast. Just dinner...
@Spider-Kev and you can't afford $20 a month or the multiple discounts / freebies available with a quick google search?
Where do you live man i need to move out there because the outskirts of washington DC are INSANE cost of living wise
Cdkeys has been a gem for all my digital gaming needs across all platforms. It’s saved me a small fortune over the years.
@OldGamer999 Same. Quite literally the only reason I have GPU until November 2025 was the 1:1 conversion, so I figured "Why not".
As far as the benefits go, I rarely use them. For example, the first thing to hit Gamepass to interested me since Starfield, drops on July 18th, Kunitsu Gami.
Worth mentioning as well is I play a lot on PC a lot and I couldn't not even begin to say the last time I used the PC portion of GPU.
Now that's a whole lotta time paying for GPU and not really using it.
Best way to save is something they are not offering. At least to my knowledge. Get a 12 month code on sale for like 30%-40% off.
For over a decade I got Xbox Live that way. 12 month code for $30-$40 total. It was fantastic!
gp would have to get a lot more shooters and a lot less child games for me to care about it.
@InterceptorAlpha
That’s what I have started to think I mean £15, £180 per year is nothing to me being honest but what actually am I getting for it. Most new big AAA you can get for £60 if you look around.
So I need three big Xbox quality AAA per year that suit me.
So far I’ve had about 3 really day one GPU over nearly four years.
Me thinks unless things drastically improve I won’t renew after March 2025.
I’m not interested in lesser games or old games.
Thing with increasing GPU cost it makes current subscribers actually think like me and you and probably lose us.
@WhiteRabbit Absolutely. Wish more would do just that. Vote with your wallet.
Brilliant journalism as usual, @FraserG. To the point, informative, clear.
@Spider-Kev All that Door Dash type services are SEVERELY overrated and EXTREMELY overpriced. I certainly don't want pay $30 for $10 item. I'll just drive there.
@Banjo- Be nice now. He tries.
@GuyinPA75 Why do you think is sarcasm? He is the best journalist on this website.
ms want ALL THE MONEY. every price increase brings them closer to their goal.
@InterceptorAlpha Honestly I'm pretty much like you as find it more economical to just buy the game on sale then spend money nonstop every month on a service that offers majority of game boy quality games or exactly like @rustyduck way too many kids games.
Starfield is game I played most on game pass and some Diablo 4. But I could just gamefly Diablo 4 for couple weeks to get my fill then sent back and buy Starfield during Christmas sale. Probably be $40 by then for deluxe edition.
@Banjo- Guess read into that with my personal bias regarding his comments most times. His articles I do enjoy vast majority of the time. No one bats .1000
@HeavyHoggJP
I'm on disability.
I get less than $1,000 per month!
If serious about wanting to know about living placement, message me through the forum...
@Banjo- Oh, thank you very much! I try my best
I know there are tricks and gaining Microsoft points from Bing etc but they seem like more effort than I'm personally willing to do, as I am happy to pay as I think it's still good value.
I do like a bargain though, so did just try CD Keys yesterday and bought 4x3 month codes for £104, so that gives me a whole year before I'll have to pay more. I was very happy with that.
@LaurenceJ1987 Yeah, I don't hunt points either. If you get pre-paid codes on third-party sites like CD Keys or Eneba, it's cheaper and very easy. If you let your subscription lapse, you can buy Core and get the 3:2 ratio Ultimate conversion. Even if you pay full price, it's still worth it, unless you barely play anything, but you can pay less easily.
CDKeys as of today £100 for a year of Ultimate.
It takes 2 extra minutes of a day to search and purchase
Who in the world is paying full price? ...and then moaning about it.
Why?
@TheOldHunter4K Most of the users that have complained too harshly these days aren't genuine users. Literally, the first to complain on the first comments section were diehard PS fans.
@TheOldHunter4K Yep, that's what I got (£103.96). And my current subscription was ending in September. So I've now not got to think about any price until September of next year
@Spider-Kev
Disney Movie Club is a huge scam

You can actually get a month for around 9,000 on MS rewards by using a combination of things you mentioned. It's worth noting as it isn't obvious. To do this you have to specifically redeem 3 months of Game Pass CORE for 15,000 points, which surprisingly converts to 50 days of Game pass Ultimate. That is 300 points per day or 9,000 / 9,300 a month, based on 30 or 31 day months. This is the current cheapest way as far as I know.
To compare other options this is how many reward points it costs to convert to Game Pass Ultimate per day. For now anyway.
(based on 30 day month)
@ZuneTattooGuy
How so?
I used them for years.
I never had an issue.
I always got great deals, better than any store sales!
And just One day later Microsoft has announced you’ll no longer be able to use Microsoft points to purchase Game Pass Ultimate.
Must have seen this article and had a panic attack lol.
Seriously Microsoft, enough with the middle finger at your fans, I know we were stupid to believe in Xbox in the first place but c’mon!
Best way to save on gamepass… cancel gamepass.
How much is the cheapest way to play online now? Not the subscription service but with games we already bought.
@HeavyHoggJP food is more important tho
@CutchuSlow eat leftovers from dinner the night before? Ever tried making a sandwich for lunch and getting a lunch box? Time to put on your big boy undies and learn how to cook. Or be like me and get a wife that loves to cook
@themightyant How do you get 3 months core for 15,000 pts? I am looking at mine right now and its 20,000 with the discount of 4,000 off being GPU and level 2???
@Spider-Kev not sure how to do that bruv. I am new to this site i just check it out while bored at work lol. My gamertag is jpwill1989 though hit me up bruv
@HeavyHoggJP you mentioned food. I only said it's important to buy food more than to pay for a subscription. Even if you cook, you still have to buy the ingredients.
On cdkeys, I found 12 months of core for £33. If I buy that, and then get ultimate, will that convert to 8 months of ultimate?
@CutchuSlow you missed the part where i said people that doordash probably spend more in 1 day than the GPU sub is eh bruv?
@CutchuSlow yes it will as long as ur sub has lapsed or u only currently have core on ur console
@HeavyHoggJP
Sent a request
@HeavyHoggJP Bizarre. I just checked and it’s still 15,000 here with a 1,000 Level 2 discount. I can only assume that they have different regional pricing OR they have already increased this in some region. Are you 100% sure that is for CORE and not standard or something else?
@themightyant Yeah what the heck man. Mine says 24,000 20,000 points Level 2 discount: 4,000
IDK how to do screen shots on here
@HeavyHoggJP To do screenshots you have to first upload them to a service that allows sharing to third party websites like imgbb.com and then when you upload it should give you the BB code (Bulletin Board code) to add here. e.g. [ img ]url-of image[ /img ] (without the spaces)
@themightyant thanks man but thats too much work. I barely spend time on here haha good to know thjough!
