Late last week, we polled the Pure Xbox community on your favourite Xbox Game Pass addition of last month, and Still Wakes The Deep was a narrow winner with 31% of the vote - closely followed by The Callisto Protocol (28%).
We've already done a poll for Still Wakes The Deep, but we haven't for The Callisto Protocol! This game has actually been quite controversial since its release, racking up "Mixed" reviews on Steam and a Metacritic average of 70 for Xbox Series X. In our Pure Xbox review, we fell slighly below the average with a "Not Bad" 6/10 score:
Reviews don't always tell the full story though, and clearly The Callisto Protocol has won over plenty of Xbox Game Pass subscribers so far. It got more votes in last week's poll than the likes of Octopath Traveler 2 and EA Sports FC 24!
So, what do you think of The Callisto Protocol? Has it been underrated in your opinion, or do some of the less-positive reviews align with your impressions? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the poll and comments below.
What Score Would You Give The Callisto Protocol? (1,639 votes)
- 10/10 (Outstanding)
- 9/10 (Excellent)
- 8/10 (Great)
- 7/10 (Good)
- 6/10 (Not Bad)
- 5/10 (Average)
- 4/10 (Poor)
- 3/10 (Bad)
- 2/10 (Terrible)0.9%

I Personally thought this was a great game. I went in with the feeling that this was more of an unofficial Dead Space 3 and I really enjoyed what the game had to offer. Sure, there are a few parts that can get annoying (crawling through vents), but overall I would have zero issues in recommending this to any of my gamer friends! I bought thison launch, so for it to be on Gamepass, it certainly won’t hurt for more people to give it a go.
It's a great game, overshadowed by its initial controversies and rough release in Xbox.
Seems great so far but I only started last night. Fantastic graphics, performance mode, VRR. It's not a walking sim, or a shooter, somewhere inbetween.
For me it's a great game, it would be an 8/10 if it weren't for the anticlimactic ending that seems designed to sell you the ending in a DLC.
Great game so far my only issue is it won’t save the game and if I die I get black screen
Was ok but not really my cup of tea.
It's on my list to check out. I just finished dead space remake on gamepass and that game is incredible. It might be my favorite remake of all time. I will probably mix it up with some other games before diving into callisto protocol.
Its alright, but it's no Dead Space.
Game have a beautiful graphics, an interesting story and catchy game mechanics. Unfortunately, there is no difficulty setting, the game continues linearly without the possibility to load an earlier position or restart the level, which is a big problem, especially for weaker players, given its difficulty.
I got stuck at about 80% of the story with 5% lives without the possibility to get a medikit or go back somewhere. Front of me was just a room full of monsters that I couldn't going through. The only option would probably be to start playing the whole game from the beginning and that is unacceptable.
Developers should think about the fact that not only hardcore players but everyone would like to enjoy and finish their games. I feel like I get just a half what I pay for.
awesome graphics but the time to kill enemies turned me off. needs a powerful shotgun and lots of ammo. dead island 2 remains the best gp game this year.
The release version was ridiculously difficult and so frustrating with unwieldy fight mechanics. The updates have really brought it up to par and made it quite enjoyable to play. The cutscenes build the story without being too long and annoying. The game mechanics are smoother and the difficulty setting is much more in line with most games. It's now a solid revamp of the Dead Space franchise.
The DLC was on sale super cheap as well.
5/10 for me. Gave it same score when it came out on PS Plus.. found it unpolished and a bit boring. Also, first 3-4 hours felt all samey.
Played it twice, I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately I’m afraid we won’t be getting other AAA titles of this calibre from this team.
I really enjoyed it. Didn’t play on Gamepass I got it on disc and didn’t regret it. I think the game got some unfair criticism because people expected something else but I think what we got was good fun.
Could of been a winner but for the horrible combat old guy here reactions are terrible and ive got hslf way through so far without being hit once. Atmosphere is great graphics great .Brilliant for gamepass
@Kekelstvo The Callisto Protocol has four different difficulty settings.
The difficulty settings are:
Minimum Security: This setting is for players who prefer a story-based experience where the gameplay is an auxiliary due to the nerfs to enemies and the buffs to weapons.
Medium Security: This is the default setting where most players will be comfortable and is for people who have played a game or two like this before.
Maximum Security: This setting is for players who want a challenge and are prepared to face many challenges during their experience with the game.
Contagion: This is the hardest difficulty setting in the game.
Installed, played, quit, uninstalled in under 5 minutes!
I thought it was great....until the last hour. The end boss made the game feel broken. It wasn't challenging, it was unfair and felt broken. Score went from an 8 to a 5.
