Xbox Showcase season is really starting to kick into gear now! We recently got all the details on when exactly the 2024 summer show will take place, and now outlet IGN has announced that it will be hosting an interview with Xbox Boss Phil Spencer right after the show.
According to IGN's Xbox guru Ryan McCaffrey, Phil and "other Xbox developers" will be chatting during IGN Live, which will be happening in and around the Xbox Games Showcase this year. Ryan seems pleased about the timing of the interview in particular, as it'll allow the IGN host to "ask him [Phil] about EVERYTHING Microsoft announces" during the show.
One game that's almost sure to be tucked into this year's showcase is the next Call of Duty title. Expected to launch in late 2024, Treyarch's next Black Ops game has been teased for its own 'Direct' livestream - joined onto this year's Xbox Games Showcase.
As for what else might show up? At the minute, that's anyone's guess. Whatever happens at the main show, Xbox seems confident in its 2024 lineup, and hopefully this IGN interview gives us even more insight into what's to come from Team Green this year and beyond.
What do you hope to see Phil talk about in this chat with IGN? Drop your thoughts on this down below.

Will it be a mea culpa moment, in which he admits games such as Starfield, Awowed, Hellblade 2 and Indiana Jones will be going to the PlayStation within 6 to 12 months following release?
At this point, I feel sorry for Phil Spencer, because as much as I like the guy, I think he has lost control of Xbox. Policies are being dictated from above, and he is being put forward to take the heat...
Hopefully it's not all smoke and mirrors
Some actual plain speaking would be nice, @Ricky-Spanish, and a first too...
Can’t wait to see what Big Phill fella has to say.
@Fiendish-Beaver Which would equate to a ton of revenue for Xbox/Microsoft, which is his job. People forget, Phil's job is to make profits for the company, not keep everything locked behind a plastic box. He will do as he needs to to make Xbox the biggest gaming company he can. People need to understand it isn't 1996 anymore and the business has gone beyond the "my box sold more than yours" mentality.
Good on him.
Gut says that some things may be revealed/shown that will warrent talk so the interweb does not go even more insane.
The Pandor's box was opened with the aquisitions so there will always be questions with what is going where now. WIll COD be day 1 GP?
Excited. Xbox is my prefered place to play so all aboard the gravy train with biscuit wheels over here.
@Fiendish-Beaver my god every day i see u write here or on pushsquare for xbox going 3rd party…. Can u want maybe a year or some offical news from xbox? If starfield got an update it doesnt mean its going to ps5. What next time when spiderman gets update it will come to xbox? People need to get these rumors in check. Myb he will speak about cod being exclusive in 10 years… we dont know and that is the point of it
Of course there will be no mention of rumoured plans to bring more titles to other platforms? This is to celebrate the launches it wants to showcase for Xbox - and we can all hope that there's plenty there to be excited about on the home platform.
No way they would mention such plans, if they exist, as that's completely not what this showcase is about.
I believe there is a strong momentum for MS to be a 3rd party publisher with concurrent releases on all platforms, but there's no way they will discuss this here surely?
I'd like to see some information on the next 'Gears game', what ID are up to, more info on Fable and a few surprises.
What I'm not at all interested in is COD - they should have their own show for that stuff imo, as for purely selfish reasons I don't want to see it in the Xbox show
Either way, the show is definitely something to look forward to!
I can’t wait for the summer showcase and this interview. I have always liked Phil. He has been with Xbox since day 1 and is actually a gamer. I understand that he can’t be as forthcoming as some may want a lot of the time. That’s just the job. I also understand he doesn’t have the power to simple do as he pleases with the brand.
He may still be in 3rd hardware wise, but only looking at hardware sales in todays market doesn’t even begin to give one a whole picture. Xbox is now 2nd in overall revenue, 1st in sub services, 1st in number of first party studios, and Xbox gamers are spending more on average than both Sony and Nintendo gamers. Phil has done a spectacular job with the BC program for Xbox, which is now the best BC console of the 3. He has prioritized PC gaming right alongside Xbox gaming and literally saved the brand from the days of Don Mattrick. He gets nothing but respect from me and I can’t wait for the show and his interview. I still don’t buy for a second that MS is bringing its big AAA exclusives to PlayStation.
This is great in theory. But hopefully they don't do what they did after the last business update where Phil contradicted things in his separate interview released moments after the main briefing.
@Titntin Fans may need to be adress depedning on what is accouned.
1. COD on Gamepass
2. who knows lol? Gears Collection multiplat?
Better to speak on it right away than let the internet run wild.
With Activision and Bethseda games will always be multiplat so this will always be a thing even if the Halo and Forza and Gears stay Xbox only.
Did they just shut Tango Gameworks…?
I’m sorry wtf. That is unforgiveable. There are valid reasons for the other 3 studios perhaps; but Tango!?
@Fiendish-Beaver All I know that PS5 is suffering a long drought of AAA First Party exclusives and is set to continue until next year.
I doubt this year's COD makes it to gamepass (sony will probably be able to nix that for one last year) but maybe he will announce the plan for the rest of abk.
o p3 you no longer can fool me.
@Titntin sounds like the Gears of war collection is going day and date to the PS5. Then Gears 6 is XBox/PC exclusive. I just wonder if they will at the showcase it’s going to PS5. I am starting to save up for a PC and once i hit around $4-$5k i think i am leaving console gaming. Xbox was my main platform and i just got no faith in it anymore, then PS is now running at 4% profit margin down from a year or two when they were only at 7%. So they need big changes as well. Consoles are starting to show some weakness as the younger kids don’t buy and play them the same way our generation did.
@HonestHick nobody mentioned gears coming to ps and you come and say that without any offical statement. This is what i am talking about rumors getting out of hand
@RIghteousNixon i agree with you about Phil. I like him. But it sounds like Gears of War collection, State of decay 2 and Starfield are next to come to PS5. Whether it happens or not is to be seen yet. But it’s looking that way. Seen a video explaining what JeZ was talking about on his discord. JEZ thinks MS will bring older titles to PS in hopes they like it and will buy a Xbox for the new game, Example bring State of decay 2 and hope PS gamers say hey thats fun and buy a Xbox for State of decay 3. Sounds like a weak plan in my opinion. But we will have to see if they do it or not. Same with Gears collection and then Gears 6 on Xbox/PC.
@DarkCvrle25 i am not saying it is i am saying that is what insiders are hearing and reporting. I really hope it’s not true. But be honest with yourself for a min, would it surprise you that much to see Starfield, State of Decay 2, Halo MCC and Gears collection on PS? Now i would be shocked if they started to give PS games day and date. I don’t think that happens. But more titles are likely keyword likely to come to PS.
@HonestHick i dont think they would announce a new console and kill it by bringing all games to ps before it even launches. Beacuse of this i think only small games will go to ps to get a extra buck and AAA exclusives remain on xbox
@DarkCvrle25 buddy i really hope you are right. This is what i would want as well. I love your idea much more than what insiders are reporting. I made the argument that it makes no sense to bring these games when they are making more hardware as well and all i am told is MS expects their hardware to remain flat and looks at every screen as a Xbox. I really hope they keep the heavy hitters. It would be the only way to grow GP. Otherwise if they are all coming 12 months later to PS why would anyone buy into Xbox. Like i said all i can say is i hope you are right cause your vision is much better than what is being reported. I really don’t want to see Xbox slowly die off. But if so i am prepared to switch to PC.
@HonestHick i hope too but we need to wait and see. If nothing is announced in june or year after starfield is still exclusive we can say that it was one time thing with 4 games
It's not a question of a my box is better than yours mentality, @GamingSince84. It is a question of whether Xbox will continue to make and support consoles. If Sony are to become the only 'high-end' console because Microsoft withdraw from supplying them, then you can kiss goodbye to 'reasonably' priced consoles. Your choice will be a very expensive PlayStation that no longer loses money on each console sold, and more expensive games to boot, or a PC, which will cost you 3 times what a console does currently and is not as simple to use by far, or just don't game on a console (outside the Switch).
If you honestly believe that people will stick with Xbox if all their exclusives also arrive on the PlayStation, then I think you are sadly mistaken. And when the Xbox console userbase is too small, third-party publishers and developers will think twice as to whether to put their games on the Xbox. It will also see Microsoft pull the plug on producing consoles because it just won't be worth it. That will then directly affect the quality of Game Pass because if Microsoft no longer have a console, then third-party developers will be far less likely to put any quality games on the Service.
It's the knock-on effects that people are overlooking. It's not necessarily about any individual game, but the ripple effect that this would have on the Xbox ecosystem...
@DarkCvrle25 exactly and i hope that’s all it was. Or if they want to bring older titles, so what but don’t bring Gears collection day and date. That would kill the excitement for long time Gears and Xbox fan’s. Might even make some sell their Xbox and get a PS5. Really hope they are smart about this cause once they lose this market it’s gone much like mobile.
In all honesty, @Sifi, I really hope that you are correct, though I have firmly held doubts. I guess until the point in time that it either happens, or doesn't, we won't know who is right...
@Fiendish-Beaver 1000% correct and well said. It’s not about just a game going to PS, it’s losing the fan base and there being no real reason to make and support a Xbox. Which at that point i would go to PC. But i am unsure if i would or wouldn’t like it there. I mean yeah the idea of running gears at 4K/120 sounds nice but how much headache is involved? I don’t know cause I’ve never been a PC gamer. I just want Xbox to realize this is like Mobile, it’s a billion dollar industry that isn’t going away, changing yes, but not going away and if they leave they won’t get back in much like happened with mobile.
So I'm not entitled to an honestly held belief, @DarkCvrle25? You are absolutely entitled to disagree with me. That is up to you. However, unless you are suggesting that I say something that I don't actually believe, or that I say nothing at all, then I'm afraid you will just have to accept that I will continue to say what I want, and that you are free to skip my comments (indeed, I believe that there is an option to have comments by people you do not wish to read automatically filtered out. Perhaps that is an option for you?).
As for Spiderman, Sony will never allow that game, or any of its other exclusives on the Xbox, so any rumours suggesting that can be instantly quashed...
@Fiendish-Beaver you r but everyday when xbox announces anything i see u commenting they r putting starfield on ps5. Its not even article about starfield. And i know that spiderman is never coming but i made a point . Starfield got an update everybody is saying its going to ps5. What they cant update exclusive games anymore without people thinking that they r going to ps?
I get you point, @DarkCvrle25, and it is a question of waiting and seeing. We will likely find out sooner than later. You have to remember that Phil Spencer was directly asked whether Starfield was going to the PlayStation and he made two comments; the first was it's not part of the first four, which whilst true, did not rule out a future port. When questioned further, he stated that nothing could be ruled out, but it wouldn't happen for 1 to 2 years, which again is not a denial. If the game was not going to the PlayStation in the next couple of years, why not simply say so. If it was never going to go, be emphatic and say so. That is the point.
It also needs to be remembered that just prior to the announcement of the first four games, all the chatter was about Starfield making the leap. However, those rumours were hit with a huge backlash, and the speculation is that Microsoft rowed back on the plan as a consequence.
So, you could argue, that if people weren't vocal on the matter, that by now Starfield would already be on the PlayStation. So raising your concerns now may just be enough to stop this from happening. So, your welcome... 😉
@Fiendish-Beaver i m not saying that u r wrong but i think we should all wait a little. In June we shall see. When no other game is announced for ps and only cod i think we r good. But i remember phil saying that they would not do anything that would damage xbox and puting gears on ps is death sentence
I kind of agree with you, @DarkCvrle25, though I think that the announcement regarding Starfield will happen around September, which will coincide with the 12 month anniversary of its release. It will also be after the release of the expansion, with the PlayStation getting the 'complete' version of the game.
Secondly, I think things have changed for Xbox since Phil Spencer made his comments. The 4 games that have released on the PlayStation have had considerable success, particularly Sea of Thieves, and Microsoft have already said that whether further games release on the PlayStation depends on how much success these initial 4 games have. Well, by that measure, I think we can safely assume that there will be many more ports, added to which we already know that apparently no game is off the table.
Now I entirely agree with you that the likes of Halo, Gears of War and Forza are cherished titles on the Xbox, but the money-men at Microsoft will be patently aware that these games will also have huge success on the PlayStation. Ultimately, it is about money, and therefore I think it highly likely that these games will end up on the PlayStation. I'm sure that Phil Spencer will be cautioning against such a move, but I really do believe that this is now out of his hands. Microsoft will be weighing up the short-term (and doubtless hefty) financial gains of putting these games on the PlayStation, against the hit that the Xbox console will take. With the relatively dire sales of the Xbox console, as compared to the PS5, I think Microsoft will take the console hit and put the games on the PlayStation with an eye to going fully third-party within the next 10 years (possibly much sooner).
I would love to be wrong about all of this, but Microsoft's continued silence says it all really, and truthfully, I doubt that we will get much more than some very ambiguous answers when Phil Spencer speaks in June, and that, when it comes to Microsoft's future plans for both consoles and games, we will know little more than we do right now...
I hope , call of duty in the game pass This interview
@Fiendish-Beaver i agree with u that MS messeging is bad. One day is this one day that. I hope that they one day come clear and say okay everything is going so that people can ditch their consoles and move on to ps/pc i know i would or say ok only small games and live service games like sot. That i dont mind it. But we shall know everything in September
@GamingSince84 Why are people pushing this "plastic box" rhetoric? YTbers makes sure to toss it in the script, it doesn't make sense. It's a cookie--cutter talking points.
The moment there are two consoles targeting the same audience, they are at odds. Platforms need exclusives to differentiate themselves and spur creativity. If your platform is has a smaller installed base, it assuredly needs exclusives, more than ever. Releasing games on PC is wise, releasing on the competing platform is confused.
