Back at the tail end of last year, Xbox announced that it would begin automatically deleting players' game captures on the Xbox Network that were at least 90 days old, with the "first deletions" set to take place in January of 2024.
We don't know about you, but we didn't specifically notice anything in January, so either the "first deletions" only affected a certain number of players, or perhaps Xbox decided to postpone the idea until the later in the year.
Either way, a new Xbox message is warning players that game captures will be deleted as of May 30th, 2024 this time around, and once again it's going to affect screenshots and images that are at least 90 days old on the Xbox Network.
Just to clarify here, when Microsoft talks about the "Xbox Network", it's specifically referring to captures that have been uploaded to Xbox's servers - rather than the Game DVR content that's stored locally on your console. Nevertheless, we recommend backing up anything you want to keep, as our local content has also disappeared randomly in the past.
To back all of this stuff up, you'll want to go to "My Games & Apps" followed by "Apps" and then "Captures", where you'll be able to move them over to OneDrive or a USB external drive. You can also change the default capture location to either of these if you like, although keep in mind that OneDrive has a 5GB limit for free users.
