Following the announcement of the Xbox Games Showcase earlier today, we spotted some interesting information over at The Verge, with the outlet sharing some of Xbox's internal targets for 2024 as they apparently stand right now.
The outlet says that Starfield's Shattered Space expansion is currently targeting September, the next Call of Duty is targeting late October, Avowed is targeting November and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is targeting December.
We've also got a new version of Microsoft Flight Simulator on the cards, said to be targeting a November launch alongside Avowed, and although it won't release this year, a new Gears of War game is expected to be revealed too.
Rumours like these should always be taken with a pinch of salt, as release windows often change significantly during development - so there's a chance everything here could shift. If things go to plan though, it sounds like we're going to have a very busy end to the year in store, culminating with Indiana Jones' arrival in December!
What are your thoughts about these Xbox targets for 2024? Let us know down in the comments below.

I'n still interested in Avowed but I have never watched and Indy movie.
That's an impressive lineup.
People are seriously sleeping on Team XBox this year and beyond. They are not going belly-up or getting out of the home console business.
Xbox finally will have more games this than Sony and Nintendo for once. Only taken years and spending billions
Well until all Xbox games get ported and become non exclusives. It's going to happen soon and it's time players were told the truth fed up with the mixed messages.
Was Indy not pegged for a summer release prior?
@Kooky_Geezer well they better have more games every year then the other publishers. They bought enough studios that they have 3-4 times the amount of studios and developers
@Rmg0731 Nope. Never had a release period other than 2024 and think most assumed it would be a fall/holiday release.
On paper it’s a great line up, just really hope all of them make a big landing. Have them be graphics power houses and all running flawlessly.
Wish they could have spread the love a little more evenly throughout the year. It'll be late May till we get a game that takes 5 hours to beat. But those titles do look great and can't wait for Indy amd Avowed
@FarmDog08 Really, I don’t know why a bunch of people are expecting Microsoft to quit making games and consoles.
I’m sure that idea crossed people’s minds after people piled onto the “Xbox is going entirely third-party rumors” once they said four of their games were going multiplatform. However, I don’t see them leaving when they have a bunch of game developers and spent a lot of money on Xbox and gaming. There is absolutely no way they would quit right now, especially with all this progress they have been making for two decades. I think some are also forgetting they said a few months ago that they were working on the next console succeeding the Series X and S.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but it feels like that whenever a negative “leak” or “rumor” regarding Xbox comes out, everyone just believes it without taking a grain of salt and adds onto it.
Not interested in Gears 6 in the slightest, but man I’m excited for Indy and Avowed. Given the state of the industry, it feels like Xbox might finally be set up to rebound.
Sounds great, but like all games by all developers lets see em and see them reviewed.
I’m hoping they bring the game play the graphics and the big AAA like the old days, great in performance and bug free.
We don’t need a Redfall, Starfield or Forza Motor Sport thank you. As that will doing nothing for Xbox the brand or momentum, just look at Xbox now after those three games released, less than it was before without the ABK deal. And definitely lower in console sales.
@Pastellioli I'm convinced it is because people have nothing better to do and misery loves company. People just need to enjoy this great hobby and quit feeding the console wars narrative so it will die.
@Kooky_Geezer 2023 was the start of something great and 2024 and beyond will see a bounty of games coming out in a steady stream…
What a difference to Sony’s 2024 with not a single major 1st party release. And only 1 major release in 2023. Of course, the usual pundits will bitch about Xbox and praise PlayStation, not realizing that the last 2 years the script has completely flipped. The worst 2 year output for Sony first party in history and a damn good year for Xbox first party. Oh how the tables turn….
@Pastellioli To be fair, whenever Sony shows good relative numbers everyone believes that, too, even when Sony itself tells them things aren't going so well financially. Gamers are a shockingly mindless herd. It's why the marketing works so well. It's depressing.
Although Microsoft has dug their hole deeply with poor communications, not getting in front of rumors, mixed messaging, and seemingly continuous total changes of strategy and reversing course from things they previously say. And a general appearance of internal war between Phil and the corporate suits pulling in different directions. They're not blameless in the mood.
My own feeling is Phil has great designs for the brand but he's not totally in control and corporate keeps pulling the rug out from under him. I've no doubt the suits do want to just put everything on ps. But I also think they'll still make hardware for the same reason they still make the perennially falling Surface lineup.
That Indy screenshot looks odd...something to do with his fist, like it's misplaced.
@NEStalgia I can definitely agree. I do remember that after all the “leakers” kept spouting about “rumors” of Xbox going third-party, Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming I believe expressed how he felt about it, and he said something along the lines of “it seems like people are making stuff up just to capitalize on hysteria,” and I feel what he said was true. In fact, I think a couple of “leakers” retracted from their statements shortly after!
Around the time those rumors spread like a wildfire, I think there weren’t any notable or significant “leaks,” or if there were, they didn’t gain much attention, and it is a possibility that “leakers” and others saw a chance for marketing and short-lived internet fame once rumors (that turned out true) said that Microsoft was porting Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves to other platforms. Some people who don’t game on Xbox consoles could have also contributed as well, possibly because of that pointless “console wars” narrative they push for and believe in.
It isn’t surprising they’d do that though, given that Microsoft has seemed to always land in third place behind Sony and Nintendo when it comes to video game consoles, and I would say that they have made mistakes that, rather unfortunately, given them bad press (e.g. that notorious Xbox One reveal from 10 years ago) and have cemented those negative and toxic views in these “console war advocates.” I am not trying to be that person who defends billion dollar companies. It’s fine to criticize companies to let them know what to improve the next time; heck, I’ve also criticized Microsoft as well! However, most of what these “console war” followers say is just to cause toxicity and start fighting among people.
I found out about most of these “leaks” on a gaming forum dedicated to rumored game projects and hardware, and out of all the “Xbox is going to become third-party” posts and non-Xbox posts, the former was the one to get all the likes and comments out of them all.
A couple of individuals online hungry for likes and views might mindlessly follow these “rumors” or try acting as if they’re knowledgeable to gain traction; of course, on social media apps and similar websites, following or adding onto trends and popular topics is likely to get you popularity. However, when their “leaks” are debunked, they delete their presence off the internet and run away, or say nothing afterwards, having already gotten their 15 minutes of online fame, or they just wait patiently for the next time a similar moment happens so it can repeat again.
Is there any rumor on Flintlock release window? Is that still planned for 2024, or was that just a vague projection/prediction? Or maybe I am wrong and and it was never in the 2024 discussion.
@RIghteousNixon one can argue that with exclusives like Stellar Blade, FF7 and Helldivers 2, there is less impact of a quiet year of true 1st party. they also have fewer overall 1st party studios, so that may buy them some slack - deserved or undeserved. But how much of the 3rd party to the rescue strategy was planning vs luck, I have no clue. I think these were all planned exclusive so there was some planning, but I do not expect, for example, Helldivers was ever projected to be the hit it became, while FF7 is reported as having disappointed SE with its sales. I have a PS but not interested in any of those 3, I'm spending my game time mostly on xbox.
Nothing leaps to mind being hyped for PS (2nd or 3rd party) in the 2nd half of the year, when all these huge games will drop for MS.
@RentedPanda
Sure one can argue that, but that doesn’t change the reality of the situation regarding Sony first party. It’s hands down the worst 2 year period in Sony history. I can’t think of another 2 year period that even came close. And for all we know, it could extend beyond 2 years. Sony signing 3rd party exclusivity contracts doesn’t change that.
So to continue to see the usual suspects rip Xbox first party and praise PS first party at this point is just kinda funny. Those people just aren’t paying attention atm.
@RIghteousNixon oh, I see. yeah, if anyone is hyping ps 1st party output for this year, .... well, that's a tough position to take. I don't know about last year, I don't recall, but I know I did not buy any 1st party games from Sony if there were any (was there a TLOU remake/update, maybe?)
@RentedPanda
Last year was just Spider-Man 2. So basically Sony 1st party will have Spider-Man 2 for the entirely of 2023 and 2024. As for 2025…guess we will see.
