PAC-MAN is making his return to Xbox consoles on May 9th, but perhaps not in the form you'd expect! This time around, he's taking part in a 64-player online-only battle royale that's launching at a price of £15.99 / $19.99 on the Xbox Store.
The game is called PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs, and the format sees you tackling your own PAC-MAN maze with the option of also crossing over to other players' mazes and interacting with them. The lowest-scoring mazes get eliminated as time goes on, and it's your job to get away from them and become the last player standing.
"PAC-MAN Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs is an online-only PAC-MAN eating competition! Eat your way through multiple interconnected mazes using Power Pellets and a variety of Power Items to chomp the GHOSTS and opponent PAC-MAN players! Be the last PAC standing at the end of each match in this 64-player Battle Royale to be the Chomp Champ!"
Apparently, there are multiple modes to help hardcore and more casual players get into the action, and there are also power-ups, customisation elements, the ability to spectate matches, and various other features to take advantage of.
We'll throw a few more details down below, and if you're interested, pre-orders are now live on the Xbox Store.
"In playtests, we’ve seen players who love to eat their neighbor’s Power Pellets, steal their Power Items, or even eat their neighboring PAC-MAN. Others team-up and help other players by eating ghosts and saving them from trouble! Some players just really enjoy showing off their cool customizations and funny reactions. We tried to give players as many ways as possible to express their PAC-MAN personalities in the game.
Since mazes are interconnected players can explore the arena, visit or check out their neighbor and continue from there. Each match plays out a bit differently, so expect the unexpected in Chomp City!"

It’s be nice to get some kind of free trial to gauge how good it is. I just don’t want to buy the game if it’s only going to last a year or 2.
I’m interested but not sure I’m £15.99 interested.
Day one purchase
Isn’t it just Pac-Man 99, but on Xbox?
@AccessibleDaydream honestly, it looks like it's just a slightly updated version of the Stadia exclusive Pacman game!
only thing that would make me care, after experiencing pac man 99 is, being able to queue or play with friends but even then.... definitely a hard pass. i can't see anybody jumping on this or it lasting long.
@GeeEssEff Same... Would've loved this on Game Pass day one... can't see it being long till it appears to be honest. Does look and sound fun...
@xanderten50 There was a Stadia exclusive Pac-Man game?
@AccessibleDaydream yep, after a quick Google it looks like that is indeed the case as it has the same name! Originally it was just Mega Tunnel Battle - https://en.bandainamcoent.eu/pac-man/news/pac-man-mega-tunnel-battle-chomps-its-way-stadia
