The incredible Baldur's Gate 3 has pushed out a large number of patches since its Xbox release back in December of last year, and it's definitely not done yet! Looking ahead, there are four particularly major new features on the way.
In a Steam blog update today, Larian Studios confirmed that Patch 7 is currently being worked on for Baldur's Gate 3, which will bring all sorts of improvements to the game including a large number of bug fixes. One of the big highlights of Patch 7 seems to be "improved evil endings" for "even darker conclusions" to the game.
"We’re working on our next game update, Patch 7, which will add improved evil endings to the game for even darker conclusions to your most sinister playthroughs, and yes, that includes you non-Durge players."
"These new cinematic cutscenes have also been given the musical treatment by our very own BAFTA award-winning composer, Borislav Slavov."
The other highlight of Patch 7 will be the addition of official modding tools, which will allow players to change everything from visuals to animations. It's not confirmed yet, but it seems likely this feature will be available on Xbox.
And then, looking beyond Patch 7, Larian is currently working on adding crossplay support to Baldur's Gate 3 along with a Photo Mode. Both of these features are a lot of work to implement and will apparently take a bit longer as a result, so perhaps we shouldn't expect them until some point later this year.
Of course, the sad news is that Larian Studios won't be returning for Baldur's Gate 4 due to plans for two other projects that are currently in the works, but the team says it "couldn’t be more excited about what the future has in store".
"We’re currently working on two new projects and we couldn’t be more excited about what the future has in store. It’s still early days - we’ll tell you more about those later down the line. But know that even as our focus turns to these new games, the sensibilities that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 are alive and well here at the Larian castle. We’re fueled by the very same fire in our bellies, one that drives us to create immersive experiences shaped by your choices, and we can’t wait for you to join us on this next adventure."

Is one of them being finally able to play without fear of losing your save?
Future Crossplay support is excellent news. I will probably get it on Steamdeck at some point anyway but not being able to play with my friends on PC has been a bit of a downer. Looking forward to seeing what the modding tools bring as well if it does indeed come to console. Larian truly are one in a million.
@Lup I wish. Sadly I think that's an Xbox problem, not a Larian one.
@FraserG @Lup Wasn't that fixed months ago? I thought I remember seeing that. Larian says it's an MS thing, MS seems to agree and rolled out fixes, but it's a little strange to me that Larian's game seems to be the only game on the entire platform that has this problem, and workarounds recommended are turning off auto save, limiting quick saves, not using quick resume and using a Larian account for their own cloud saves. It's the only game that seems to have this problem. Surely they can identify something they're doing differently than literally every single other game, and just not do it differently??
I know it's a celebrated game, but I think people have deified Larian prematurely, when they let things like this persist.
@NEStalgia It's not the only game that has the problem - it occurs in games that have large save files. Football Manager 2024 Console is another one that has a similar issue, for example.
Here's one of the recent Xbox Store reviews for FM24:
"I had a 9 year save i had loads of storage and still the game wouldn't save ive lost multiple saves to this now. Ive contacted sega to no avail and im so tired of this."
Whatever they did a few months ago for BG3 definitely helped, but it's still getting some reports from players who have lost their save files randomly on Xbox.
@FraserG I encountered the same problem when I played NieR Replicant. Had to start over 12 hours in.
@BIG3 @FraserG That's brutal! I hadn't heard of that before the bg3 issue at all. How have they not fixed the successfully still?
Tbf PS5 has a nasty cloud save issue that corrupts cloud saves if you use rest mode, often, but restoring the local save fixes it.
