This has definitely been the month of Fallout, and it's clearly being represented in the number of people playing Fallout 76 on Xbox Series X and S right now - the game has its highest player count on those consoles since October of 2022.
This is according to data from analysis firm Circana, as revealed by its Executive Director earlier today:
There are a bunch of reasons why this doesn't come as much of a surprise. Firstly, Fallout 76 is being given away free with Amazon Prime Gaming right now, and it's also free to play across all platforms over the next week.
And of course, there's just a lot of hype around the TV series right now, so Xbox fans will be flocking to the likes of Fallout 76 and Fallout 4 over the next few weeks. The latter is getting a next-gen upgrade in late April as well, so we're assuming that'll result in a significant number of players returning to a game that's almost 10 years old!
In the meantime, if you're enjoying Fallout 76 at the moment, don't forget to claim your "free" Vault 33 Survival Kit perk with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and let us know your thoughts on the game down in the comments below!

Which on Xbox at least isn't much since playing FO76 is paywalled by Game Pass Core, which includes FO76 anyway.
I will admit I have been thinking of going back to this game especially after watching the TV series. I haven't played it since launch but really curious to see how much it has improved.
Played at launch on PS and hit like lvl 160 or so. Logged in again when I got my Series X and played to around lvl 30.
Just couldn't bring myself to grind anymore. Might go back and check it out but tbh have barely enough time nowadays. Plus Skull and Bones is pretty much my now go-to game.
I think it's the Mothman Equinox event that's bringing in people to Fallout 76.
fallout 76 has an excellent map. i just love exploring play solo and do the quests
its got a bad reputation from launch but its not that game anymore
I only played back around the launch period when it basically had no content in it, quite why they thought it was a good idea to launch it with no NPC's is baffling.
I started replaying Fallout 4 a week or so ago in preparation for the huge upcoming Fallout London mod and may give 76 another go at some point
Just started playing it for the first time as I had read and seen so many disastrous reviews of it at launch, but I have to say it's pretty good! The show is amazing as well, genuinely, so of course people are hopping back on. I think Fallout 76 is going to grab people's attention now in the way it hoped it had done right at launch.
Never played it... Is it on GamePass? If so I'll give it a go.
