As announced all the way back in October 2022, Fallout 4 Next-Gen is finally coming. Today, Bethesda has revealed that the upgraded version of its 2015 RPG will launch for Xbox Series X|S on April 25th, 2024.
The update will add new 'Performance' and 'Quality' mode options for current-gen players, while stability improvements and bug fixes will come to all versions of Fallout 4 - including Xbox One. Here's a bit more about the update, straight from Bethesda:
"Bethesda Game Studios is releasing a free Fallout 4 update for download on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. This free update includes native applications for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Performance mode and Quality mode settings, as well as stability improvements and fixes. Experience up to 60 FPS and increased resolutions!"
"Fallout 4 players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will also receive a free update with stability improvements, login and quest fixes."
Alongside these technical additions and changes, the team is bringing a selection of Creation Club content to the game at no extra cost. Headlining this content is the 'Enclave Remnants' questline, which also delivers the following goodies to all players:
- Enclave Weapon Skins
- Enclave Armor Skins
- Tesla Cannon
- Hellfire Power Armor
- X-02 Power Armor
- Heavy Incinerator

I've literally achieved full mast after seeing this great news! New mission and everything guess I'll be loading up my original character for one last fight!
Splendid! I have this downloaded and ready to play for the first time after this update
FINALLY.
Been waiting on this to do my first playthrough of it.
Really close to my birthday, but Eiyuden it's also releasing.
Keep cooking Bethesda👏
Two questions:
1) Will the PC version be updated?
2) Will there be cross-save/cross-progression?
Awesome. I never played a Fallout game and will probably start with this. Should be fun!
Sweeet! And kudos to Bethesda for doing this at no extra cost 👏.
Nice - I think the world has been waiting for this… will be my first play through when it comes out so excited…
fallout 3 and new vegas are better games
To be honest I'm hoping for more than just bug fixes. They could do with modernising the animations, combat and movement a bit closer to Starfield, just tighten the gameplay overall. Fixes for the slow loading being tied to the framerate would help too
I might try out some of the new quests if they're free but I'm pretty much done with Fallout 4.
On the Bethesda website it states "to download the update on a next generation console, you must own Fallout 4 for that device"
I'm not going mad, there's only one version of Fallout 4 isn't there - there aren't Xbox One and Series X versions... this statement confuses me??
it's been a long week!!
Funny I downloaded this yesterday I believe? Never played a fallout game and thought I should start with that. By the time I actually get to it, the update should be ready.
@Dimey without checking the webpage, I assume they are referring to the fact you need an Xbox copy, and that on a PS5 you’d need to have purchased for the PS4 previously to upgrade. That the purchases aren’t transferable across platforms.
Nice that it’s coming out 2 weeks after the announcement.
Fallout 4's really fun gameplay-wise, it's just a garbage Fallout game. If they didn't water down every gameplay aspect Starfield would've been so amazing... but let's focus on the positives.
Wonder if they'll add in more Creation Club freebies in addition to these along with the current rotation they've been doing for a few years. Either way I'm excited to play again, and since I have all the Achievements I can mess around with the limited console mods.
Released here on a Public Holiday!
Ohh heck yeah!!
Superb news, been looking to start this on xbox after my platinum chase a couple of years ago. Watched the first episode of the show last night too and was thoroughly impressed, what a time to be a fan.
I hope the DLCs are included with the update, along with bug fixes. The amount of bugs in all the DLCs was shocking.
I've kind of jumped in and out of Fallout games over the years. Is Fallout 4 generally regarded as the best one?
I hope that stuttering problem is sorted out on the series s that we got on the xbox one version
@RetroMan71 No. It's actually terrible as a Fallout game. But outside of that the core gameplay loop is fun.
