Since wrapping up development on Ori and the Will of the Wisps back in 2020, Moon Studios has been hard at work on its action RPG No Rest for the Wicked, and tech outlet Digital Foundry has decided to take a look at the newly-released Early Access version of the title this week.
Unsurprisingly, Moon Studios has delivered in the visuals department once again. This indie studio burst onto the scene with its gorgeous visual design in Ori, and that trend seems to be continuing with its next game.
Here's a snippet of the DF hands-on:
"Simply put, No Rest for the Wicked couples a stunning visual design with elements inspired by From Software's Souls titles, Blizzard's Diablo and even Animal Crossing - and yet the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
The game in its current state feels sublime and is extremely promising, but do bear in mind that it is in early access so don't expect a full, completely polished game - but it will certainly be fun to see the reaction from users and how that feedback is integrated into the game."
Talking of fan feedback, the team has confirmed that an Xbox Series X|S version is coming - after the PC edition has evolved into its full release. There's no timeline on the game's console launch yet, but the fact that it's coming at some stage puts us at rest, for now.
Anyway, we'd recommend giving the video at the top of this article a watch - if just to see how the Ori team is evolving its tech with No Rest for the Wicked! Once we hear more about the developer's Xbox plans, we'll be sure to let you know.
Is No Rest for the Wicked on your radar? Tell us if you're impressed by this down below.

That was a great video to watch. We need more studios like Moon Studios. Some of the stuff they are doing is truly impressive - and you can tell that the studio puts actual care into the "craft" of video game making rather than seemingly getting stuff sloshed together to get a release out the door.
Moon Studios wanted a very specific look and feel to the game and came up with brilliant ways to portray it with careful attention to detail!
Perhaps there is more stuff like this going on with AAA developers than we realize (as indie developers are more "open" about the developer process than studios from Ubisoft, EA, etc.), but it just feels like smaller studios that have more to lose put in more effort.
I guess this is why Nintendo-made games have such charm to them as Nintendo can't afford to have games bomb.
I like the looks of it. But i am a Hardcore Diablo fan. 1000’s of hours in D2 and D3 and 760 already in Diablo 4. So this game play style isn’t for me. But i do hope the game does well as ARPG’s are one of my favorite genre’s and i welcome more to be made and do well. I am not into soul’s combat and i think that is what threw me off of this from the start. One thing is for sure tho and that is Moon is very talented.
@GamingFan4Lyf Nintendo are a very cash-rich company, they can probably afford to have more games bomb than you think…
I love the Ori games. Something that looks like Diablo but plays more like Dark Souls sounds great.
I bought into early access and will check it out this weekend.
@GamingFan4Lyf Nintendo don't even need their games to sell. They don't sell their hardware for a lost like Microsoft or Sony... Who need to make up lost profit through games sale. Nintendo is the richest company in Japan with zero debt.
@datamonkey Yeah. Isn't the saying that Nintendo has enough cash that they could lose 300 million for 50+ years, and still not be broke; and survive through multiple generations of console failures.
