Xbox has added to the list of free Dynamic Backgrounds on Series X and Series S today with a special background based on the Xbox 360 classic Blue Dragon, and it's to honour the Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama.
Toriyama, who sadly passed away recently, was an artist on Blue Dragon back in the day, and the game ended up becoming one of the most beloved JRPGs of the Xbox 360 generation. You can check out the background below:
In order to apply this on your Xbox console, you simply need to go My Games & Apps > Settings > Personalisation > My Background > Dynamic Backgrounds. In there, you'll find the new Blue Dragon design.
And of course, if you want to try Blue Dragon yourself, it's backwards compatible on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S! You'll find it on the Xbox Store for £14.99 / $19.99, and it's still a great game that's well worth a play in 2024.
"Hironobu Sakaguchi, the Father of the Final Fantasy series, and Artoon present the world of Blue Dragon on Xbox 360. Featuring the character design of Akira Toriyama, the Father of "Dragon Ball Z", and music by Nobuo Uematsu, the composer for Final Fantasy, Blue Dragon is an epic role-playing game (RPG) centered on five youngsters who possess miraculous strength and magical power to control shadow creatures that mirror the actions of their masters."

Classy move AND a great game.
For better or worse, I'll never forget that one boss battle track...

Amazing game and it plays perfectly on Series X (and I assume S)! No slowdown or screen tear!

This reminds me, I have never played this game.
I hope they remaster the game as I've never played it and I no longer have an xbox. Would like to play on PC.
Oh Xbox… you spoiled us with these amazing backgrounds! Playstation would have charge us $ 9.99 for a dynamic theme.
Gorgeous, too bad the games icons cover 95% of Shu lmao. Did they even test it? Could have raised the rock a little...
Have you guys ever stopped to think about all of the franchises that xbox has abandoned? If it had been a playstation property we'd be getting Blue Dragon 5 this Christmas. Someone should make a list of abandoned franchises lol
@armondo36 they didn’t own it to make more is the problem. When BD came out MS owned less than 3 studios. They were paying for dev’s to create for them. Now they own a lot of IP’s so i am sure we will be seeing loads of sequels from well received games.
@AlienigenX
Imagine turning a genuinely heartwarming move like this into pathetic console wars.
@ShadowofTwilight I know….preposterous!
@AlienigenX
Sad really.
@ShadowofTwilight Indeed I agree, as sad as charging for a dynamic theme…
@AlienigenX
Good thing Sony doesn't do that then eh? (Granted cause there are no themes for PS5 yet but still)
They should give away blue dragon! Or sell it cheap in the spring sale. It goes bye bye when the 360 store closes.
@ShadowofTwilight I am glad we are finally on the same page my friend, let’s rejoice by installing this Lovely theme on our respective Xboxes (The way the dragon looms over the games is exquisite)
@armondo36 Twisted Metal, Sly Cooper, Jax 'n Daxter, Little Big Planet, Ape Escape, Infamous, Resistance, Killzone... it sure is great to be able to play these long standing games that have PS5 entries.
@armondo36 Yes I have. I bought Kingdom Under Fire Circle of Doom randomly one day in the last fortnight having never heard of it even and enjoying it even if different from the other entries in the series doing research after I bought it.
I bought it the same time I think (if remember from the receipt I have in game's box) I bought a 360 Kinect as never owned one even though got a 360 Elite and E models. It's a novelty but I'm still curious to give it a go and certain games.
I'm happy to have my copy of Blue Dragon from years ago I picked up I need to get into it more.
Was Eternal Sonata too enjoyed it got stuck at the garden maze or so. Enjoyed what I did play while get through it at some point.
I picked up a copy of Shadowrun too. I played a bit of the offline tutorial, not into multiplayer so was unsure but I still wanted to see what it was like.
Xbox has a lot of good IPs left behind I have yet to uncover whether first party or third party OG Xbox/360 IPs am excited for or will stumble upon having never heard of I don't find through research or those I have heard of through research like I did recently. Whenever the next one comes around that is.
I haven't even picked up Brutal Force yet. I need to. But 360/Xbox One back compat ah and game availability where I look.
I'll get my Forza Motorsport 1, Blinx 1 (if I ever see a 2 copy as well) and Toe Jam and Earl 3 as well. Happy with my PGR 1-4 and Voodoo Vince I'll get an OG Xbox for. I know the Remaster exists but eh fine with the original copy.
@shoeses every single one of those games has like 3 entries lol. My point is that Microsoft has bailed on a lot of franchises, and to this day always seems to be struggling to put high quality software on the shelf. This has nothing to do with playstation, who seems to be doing fine in this area lol. They can afford to leave franchises unused, because they always remember to start new ones.
@armondo36 "every single one of those games has like 3 entries lol", yeah a decade ago or longer. I don't think you understand what the word 'abandoned' means. And unlike Blue Dragon there's no excuse with Sony since they own all the rights for those abandoned IPs.
