It seems like January is becoming a big month for Xbox these days, with 2023 bringing us the first Developer Direct alongside the shadow-drop of Hi-Fi RUSH, and 2024 surprising us with the mega popular Xbox exclusive, Palworld.
In fact, January 2024 was apparently the best month in the history of Xbox in terms of play time. We discovered this little fact in a recently-published Xbox Wire article about the success of the ID@Xbox program.
"2024 got off to a fast start with players this year — Xbox had its biggest month ever on console this past January, measured by play time (including ID@Xbox program member Pocket Pair, whose Xbox Game Preview title, Palworld, has more than 10,000,000 players on Xbox so far!)."
When you think how long Xbox has been in existence and how many amazing games we've seen in the past few years alone, it's crazy to hear that January 2024 represents the peak since the brand began 23 years ago!
It also appears to show that Xbox is still proving extremely popular despite some concerns about declining console sales and exclusives jumping to PS5 and Switch recently. That bodes well for whatever Microsoft has in store for its Xbox Series X refresh later this year, which is rumoured to be an all-white, digital only version of the console.

Palworld be palling
I think they may be counting stuff like PS players playing CoD in these stats.
I played my Xbox about as much as normal, which is a few times per week. A lot of my play time is dependent on when my kids/wife are using the TV.
@Grumblevolcano yeah I’d like a littler more meat to the stats than what we are getting.
This is a Ubisoft style metric of success to report.
@Grumblevolcano Microsoft paid $69 billion to be able to brag about the “Highest engagement in the new Modern Warfare Trilogy” as worded in an actual Call of Duty email I still have from November 2023.
@Utena-mobile I don’t know if I meant to put it, or if I overlooked it, but either way I appreciate you pointing it out.
To your point about this probably being the future of metrics, it’s shameful how the megacorporations, that effectively rule over the hobby we all share, keep setting their own bar lower and lower, while (by raising prices and reducing value) make us as consumers work harder and harder for the same enjoyment, pleasure, and happiness.
"Every screen is an Xbox" now so, yeah. Lots of screens were on.
No one has any idea what this stuff means anymore.
