Roundup: Here's What The Critics Think Of 2K's Latest WWE Title

2K's latest wrestling game launches this week in the form of WWE 2K24 - coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on March 8th. We've been playing it ahead of launch to deliver a full written review — as have plenty of other outlets across the web — and the initial verdict seems fairly positive!

So, we'll round up some notable reviews for WWE 2K24 down below - alongside providing a snippet of our own Pure Xbox writeup:

Pure Xbox (8/10)

"WWE 2K24 is undoubtedly one of the best wrestling games in Xbox history, but it's also a game that prioritises incremental upgrades over any kind of major overhauls, so casual fans may struggle to justify a full-price purchase. As dedicated wrestling "marks" though, we think the new MyRise stories, superb improvements to MyGM, nostalgia-driven Showcase mode, additional match types and various gameplay adjustments are all worth the price of admission."

Dualshockers (9.2/10)

"Way more than just an annual roster update, WWE 2K24 chronicles the history of sports entertainment's biggest even with its 40 Years of WrestleMania showcase, but it also shines in a massively improved GM mode and four brand new match types."

God is a Geek (9/10)

"WWE 2K24 is the best the series has ever been, with some major and minor additions to every mode, customisation, and the most important factor, it’s gameplay. It feels so good to know WWE 2K games are back to being great, and while the MyRISE stories are a little silly and MyGM can still be frustrating in terms of getting the right balance for high ratings, I was enamoured by everything it has to offer."

Push Square (8/10)

"Far removed from the haunted carnival ride that was WWE 2K20, 2K and Visual Concepts have settled into an extremely reliable groove. The amount of content on offer is absolutely staggering, with grapple fans certain to delight in at least one of the many available modes and 200+ available Superstars. Some visual inconsistencies and a somewhat lacklustre WrestleMania Showcase let the side down, but beyond that, WWE 2K24 is another strong, if safe, entry in the 2K-driven WWE series."

GamesRadar (8/10)

"Like the real refs, and ring announcers, and extra match types it's a sign that 2K is listening to its audience, and keen to deliver fan service. Which only makes MyFaction feel like an even bigger contradiction to that wider ethos. Then again, money talks. And it's the biggest hurdle in this rejuvenated series securing true greatness."

Digital Trends (8/10)

"WWE 2K24 feels like the final step of the series’ comeback. It’s a richly detailed wrestling simulator with a suite of improved modes, an excellent roster, and the most powerful creative suite in perhaps any modern video game. This is what the top of the mountain looks like. Acknowledge it."

Dot Esports (7/10)

"While WWE 2K24 may not be pulling up trees and earning accolades at the end of the year when compared directly to the best titles in 2024, I’d certainly go out on a limb and say it is the best sports game I’ve played in the past 12 months."

Tech Raptor (6/10)

"If all you’re looking for is wrestling, and I mean good ol’ fashioned Westernized “wrasslin’”, then WWE 2k24 has you covered. Sure, there’s more than enough content to tide you over until WWE 2k25 - hell, maybe even the 50th anniversary of Wrestlemania - but you do have to consider how much of it is going to be fulfilling. It’s hard to see the main event for the knock-offs in front of it."

Well, there you go! WWE 2K24 seems to be going down well with the critics so far, with lots claiming it to be the best WWE game in quite some time. The title currently has a score of 83 on Metacritic and 82 on OpenCritic - both of which fall closely in line with our own Pure Xbox verdict. Wrestling fans, you should have a blast with this one!
