Following rumours that spawned from a cryptic social media post last week, WB Games has officially unveiled the new launch date for its 2D brawler MultiVersus. The character-spanning fighter comes to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on May 28th, 2024.
You may remember that the beta version of MultiVersus was live for quite a while, before being closed down last summer to allow the developer the time to build towards a full release. That full release is upon us, and here's what WB has to say about its new launch:
"MultiVersus, the free-to-play platform fighter videogame featuring an all-star cast of iconic characters, will officially launch on May 28, 2024. MultiVersus will release with a new PVE mode, more heroes and personalities added to the roster, additional stages based on reimagined universes and environments, first-class online play, improved visuals, and much more."
MultiVersus will be available as a free download on all platforms this May, featuring full cross-play and cross-progression support.
Will you be trying out the full version of MultiVersus? Tell us what you think down below.

I'm interested to see what kind of reception it gets when it comes back. I like the idea of a game like this getting a pre-release beta, but then actually shutting down so the devs can put the work in without needing to build the plane as it's in the air. Of course the risk is that it'll have lost the momentum and player base.
I enjoyed the beta.
It is nice to have a decent enough Smash Bros. knock off on Xbox.
Will everyone that purchased extras on the first version get that stuff back? I think they should have communicated better that they were likely to shut it down after feedback instead of taking peoples money and then effectively ghosting them...
I miss this game. I enjoyed it a lot as a decent alternative to Smash Bros. So I look forward to its return and hope its improved a lot. The new engine and rollback netcode is a good sign.
@xanderten50 They said anything you owned from the Open Beta will carry over to the full release a few days after shutting down though?
@shoeses did they? I must have missed that... with the amount of complaining online I assumed they'd just been silent on it! Oh well, glad nobody is losing out at least.
Its hard to invest time or money in something knowing that it might not get much support or get shut down quickly again. I'm probably passing on this one.
@xanderten50 They were silent on it maybe for a week after it originally going offline, but yeah, all the characters, Perks, Skins, etc. you've unlocked or bought from the Open Beta are still yours.
@BacklogBrad It's not that much of a grind if you approach it casually. Doing Co-op VS AI 20-30 minutes a day got me the entire cast and a ton of extra stuff over time. Just gotta mess around in the Lab a bit to see who you prefer in advance and spend your Gold smartly. At the very least I'd claim it on the chance that when it permanently goes offline, you might still be able to do the Lab & Local Play w/ everything unlocked like they did when the Beta ended.
i'm glad it comeback it was a fun game to play!
