We've talked a few times about the Xbox Live 1.0 replacement service "Insignia" at Pure Xbox over the past couple of years, and it continues to go from strength-to-strength, with the latest announcement being a particularly exciting one!
Yes, Halo 2 for the original Xbox is getting online multiplayer support through Insignia, with a Public Beta set to begin this week. The team has been working on Halo for ages, and describes its arrival as a "major milestone".
With the addition of Halo 2, Insignia is now fast approaching 200 supported games in all, which is a truly outstanding achievement for a fan-created and entirely free service - especially one that isn't affiliated with Microsoft in any fashion!
Of course, there is a bit of a barrier to entry (as detailed on the Insignia website) and it doesn't work with backwards compatible titles on modern Xbox consoles, so we'd love to see Microsoft work with the Insignia team to help deliver additional Xbox Live 1.0 support in the future. Can you imagine how popular this would be if it was made official?!
