If you've been keeping up with all the latest GTA 6 discussion lately, you'll probably have seen that fears have been growing of the game's possible delay to 2026, and it even caused Take-Two's shares to plummet on the stock market.
This started with a report from Kotaku which claimed production was "slipping behind" and there was a potential of the release window moving into 2026 as a "fallback plan". Fall 2025 is supposedly what Rockstar is aiming for, however.
Following this, Insider Gaming published a report yesterday in which it claimed various sources close to GTA 6's development had stated the game is "on schedule" and talking about a delay is just "pure conjecture" right now.
"...there hasn’t been anything to suggest, according to those who spoke on condition of anonymity, that the game is falling behind in anyway at this point."
Bloomberg's Jason Schreier also weighed in on this, claiming that the fears of a delay are "overblown" and while it's possible that GTA 6 could slip into 2026, everyone he's talked to recently at Rockstar Games has shrugged at the idea.
"This week, I asked a few other people at the company what they made of the rumor mill and was mostly met with shrugs."
The reality is that we just don't know if GTA 6 is going to release in 2025 or not, and both Rockstar and Take-Two probably aren't sure of that either just yet. There are so many moving parts involved in releasing a game with the scope of a Grand Theft Auto, and if it needs to be delayed, it'll surely be allowed some extra polish time.
Based on what we're hearing from the latest reports and sources though, it sounds like things are mostly going ahead as expected for now. Fingers crossed we'll be playing the game next year, but let's not get our hopes up too much.
