If you've been keeping up with all the latest GTA 6 discussion lately, you'll probably have seen that fears have been growing of the game's possible delay to 2026, and it even caused Take-Two's shares to plummet on the stock market.
This started with a report from Kotaku which claimed production was "slipping behind" and there was a potential of the release window moving into 2026 as a "fallback plan". Fall 2025 is supposedly what Rockstar is aiming for, however.
Following this, Insider Gaming published a report yesterday in which it claimed various sources close to GTA 6's development had stated the game is "on schedule" and talking about a delay is just "pure conjecture" right now.
"...there hasn’t been anything to suggest, according to those who spoke on condition of anonymity, that the game is falling behind in anyway at this point."
Bloomberg's Jason Schreier also weighed in on this, claiming that the fears of a delay are "overblown" and while it's possible that GTA 6 could slip into 2026, everyone he's talked to recently at Rockstar Games has shrugged at the idea.
"This week, I asked a few other people at the company what they made of the rumor mill and was mostly met with shrugs."
The reality is that we just don't know if GTA 6 is going to release in 2025 or not, and both Rockstar and Take-Two probably aren't sure of that either just yet. There are so many moving parts involved in releasing a game with the scope of a Grand Theft Auto, and if it needs to be delayed, it'll surely be allowed some extra polish time.
Based on what we're hearing from the latest reports and sources though, it sounds like things are mostly going ahead as expected for now. Fingers crossed we'll be playing the game next year, but let's not get our hopes up too much.

I hope everyone will enjoy this game, but... I'm not interested at all.
I’ll say early 2026. Rockstar isn’t afraid to delay their games to get them to the point they feel safe to release. Not to mention it doesn’t hurt that GTA5 still prints money. So not like their feet is held to any fire pre say.
I’ll even throw in Red Dead as another source of great income to Rockstar. I believe GTA6 get’s a small delay.
I'm guessing summer '26. Whatever headwinds they are seeing now causing some doubt probably won't be the last. It seems like a poor bet these days to think a game will see smooth sailing for 1.5 years of dev.
I honestly expect it by Summer 2026, it wouldn’t be a Rockstar game without a delay, and for what will be the biggest game of all time they should take as long as they need.
Who knows? I’m guessing holiday 2025 or summer 2026 as a release date.
Late 25, just intime for the Xmas period
I'm feeling optimistic, and I'm going to say itll release in fall 2025. I think 4 out of 5 of the major GTA titles (III, Vice City, San Andreas & V) all had a Sept/Oct release date, if I remember correctly. IV I think was a Spring release.
@Pigrotto with dan houser and other head honchos gone, they didn’t seem to be interested either. gta6 has a very high chance of sucking . especially coming off of gtav
@Divide_and_Wander IV was delayed to spring . was supposed to be out in oct 07
I think Spring 2025 with the next trailer appearing during Playstation Showcase 2024.
I will play it for sure, but have zero hype for it. Without the Houzers Rockstar is not what it used to be. And to be honest with so many games being released weekly, i’m in no rush to play “another crime open world game” even if is being made by the “masters” of the genre.
@AlienigenX The Housers, Leslie Benzies, and Lazlo have all departed Rockstar. Top it off with "modern sensibilities" and the humor/writing will likely be hamstrung.
Good.
Fed up with the mess some games are released in these days.
Better a bit late than a total state.
Take Two is a great gaming stock to own. Buy the dips. I have been. Just gonna go way up when GTA VI releases to insane record numbers.
