The 27th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards took place this week and there were multiple Xbox games nominated for all sorts of awards. As previously mentioned, Starfield and Hi-Fi RUSH were nominated across multiple categories, but in the end, went home empty-handed.
Fortunately, for Xbox, it still picked up a few awards on the night. The new Forza Motorsport was crowned the racing game of the year and along with this, Blizzard's Diablo 4 picked up the online game of the year award.
The prestigious "game of the year award" went to Baldur's Gate 3. It also picked up multiple other awards on the night. Along with this, the indie Game Pass title Cocoon received the best independent game award and Alan Wake 2 won the "outstanding achievement in art direction".
You can see the full list of winners on the official Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences website.
Congratulations, Xbox!

So many good games to play! Because Microsoft congratulated the team behind Palworld in the podcast, I was wondering if they have realised that they also need to make that kind of cartoonish but not silly games we grew up with and that they own, you know, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, Viva Piñata... It's the only thing I'm missing on Xbox, honestly.
Racing game of the year 😂 Sorry but it's a bit of a mess.
I did really enjoy Starfield last year and there are a few Xbox games I'm really looking forward to this year, more so than in quite a few years in fact.
Though as above I'd love to see a new Banjo or Conker game
Cocoon deserves every award it can get.
Wow we sold three series x already this morning.
Maybe the news this week, maybe that Sony not releasing a big AAA until April 2025, maybe the small price drop to £409.99.
Either way good for series x.
@carlos82 yeah, that one stumped me aswell lol. Haven't played Starfield but it probably deserves something.
Not sure xbox can claim a win for a game released before they bought the studio.
@Weebleman
Really? Just watch them 😅...
@Banjo- Right there with you. Would love for a push into family friendly coop games. I’m hoping everwild is a huge viva piñata.
@Halucigens I really want a new Viva Piñata, one of the games I have enjoyed the most in my life 😊.
Blinx, Viva Pinata, Blue Dragon, Conker mature or family friendly of 12 Tales/GBC. Anything more interesting from Xbox would be nice family friendly. So many IPs barely used.
WRC 2023, any other racing game robbed again for Forza Motorsport the pathetic joke, weak new ideas, and broken but being worked on well enough, still a joke by devs and critics who don't play racing games let alone fighting.
Playing WRC 3 for 360 it has a beat a helicopter event, drift, rally, regular special stages. Where is you've/hillcimb or other interesting ideas of events let alone better progression or cool ideas in Forza Motorsport 8?
Acessibility maybe sure I'll give it that and the settings are always good in the series to tweak, same in GT games or certain others.
But game design lol no way what a bad racing game that devs or critics that don't play the genre play because their idiots and don't know the genre, don't care about cars or good game design for the genre just point to any obvious games like fighting games the lazy idiots.
If I can do research of past racing games and find the best mechanics the genre has had in years, let alone are still fresh ideas nowadays of unique but thrown away for the future trash we get and we end up with trash big IPs then others in the Indie space that are unique, or nostalgic Outrun/Virtual Racing/top down Micro Machines style clones yep major one each year and safe votes. What a joke devs and critics. Trash awards.
Devs know nothing. Narrative or not they don't play some genres get real people that do to vote for it.
Devs play oh the big games of the year sure but still. I still don't trust their opinions and votes. I don't trust the industry.
Sigh, pathetic players pathetic developers.
Learn what actual good ideas in racing games are. I've waited since Sega GT on Dreamcast for a car builder mechanic, that came out in 1999 yet WRC 2023 does it. Or other cool ideas or refinements to old better ideas even just to get something.
Position selector and leveling in such a way is ok at best of benefits.
Similar games existed close to it on Xbox like Apex by Milestone, Supercar Street Challenge in its way. Give me a good idea and I'll play the game but till then buying up old even annual WRC/MotoGP out of boredom besides research and picking up the great overlooked one offs or more of the past when the genre had good ideas and competition not nostalgia or major IP scraps.
Tell me why I don't look to old racing games, platformers then nostalgic indie borefest repeats of the hit ones not the more original idea ones left behind, with good ideas and not money making or broken/bland game design racing modern ones. I don't care about the graphics or boring physics I care about game design and it sucks.
Even GT7 is Forza Motorsport 6 roulette worse then it, GT5 level gating even further that no one asked for and its own ideas that are just bad.
Tell me who has good game design in the racing genre because to me it's in the past developers.
Heck Milestone created the rewind system and good RPG system for the rwind or other core aspects of the cars, in a one make game, an advertisement game, and haven't used their old design since to improvr the reind system but copy everyone else's dumbed down version of Forza Motorsport 3/Grid 2008, WHY! YOU STARTED SOMETHING. The idiot current staff, but improvements to Forza Motorsport 1&2's region system in Ride 4 sure.
Again fighting and racing suck to be picked because those people don't play them. Give us some who does or have us vote instead.
If they still pick Forza Motorsport then no thanks, they didn't try hard enough at what good exists in other titles small or big.
I picked WRC 2023 because I don't count oh all forms of cars in the Forza Motorsport game. I can take circuits or rally and still get something out of them with strengths.
Turn 10 and Milestone need to learn a thing or two on what you did in the past then the trash your putting out nowadays. Milestone too, too much pro driving models are unplayable game but good ideas.
Turn 10 just hasn't made a good game in years. A model since 2013 that has made the series so boring to play, strategy gone and other than side events the only fun I actually have sue to varieithe rest is boring, bad and ugly UIs/design.
Eh dream car logic, no original tracks of worth other than whatever city locations that are ok to drive on but look fine, awful progression that was a fine idea but a bit much but changed, performance running trash is of most racing games these days micro transaction trash. Not iRacing or others each asset buying bad but still.
Milestone and Codemasters all the way sorry for their ideas, execution maybe it varies but Grid Legends didn't disappoint and I tolerated it to completion. Haven't done that for a racing game in years. Let alone a modern ones because they suck so much.
Class focus events are boring offer more strategy like 1-4 offered, create your own, sprint was even fine but is 1 lap magic from GT4 from 2004, come on, give me Hill climbs or touge, even Grid 2008 did that it's been years, or other gate, time, cone, fuel or other sound, different vehicles, even the Crew 2 had more vehicle types then dropped that. Even PGR did 1-4 all different ways. Hundreds of city layouts and fun. A dealership to walk around, that's a Cutscene of no worth in GT7 you'd ee once. Has no benefit. Be creative.
Hi Fi music or gameplay yes. While similar to No Straight Roads or others it's still great from Tango.
Starfield is Starfield it's fine for what it is but innovation it is not.
Spiderman animation sure, character, lol no. Voice acting maybe but character lol no. Some awards were hilarious.
I don't trust developers or critics. Developers barely play anything and even then whatever garbage others do.
@SuntannedDuck2 jesus.
