Last November it was reported that Call of Duty 2024 will be another Black Ops title, set in the Gulf War period, and today fresh details have emerged on this year's CoD game.
Coming by way of Insider Gaming, 'Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War' will feature an open world campaign developed by Raven Software. Despite Modern Warfare 3 containing 'open combat' missions, the upcoming Black Ops title will apparently present an open world "more akin to that of Far Cry" than anything we've seen from the series so far.
Here's a bit more about the game's campaign as per Insider Gaming sources:
"Players will be able to utilize vehicles to get around, as well as using a fast travel system to get from one point to the next. Although the scope of how many linear missions there will be remains to be seen, sources confirmed that some linear missions will be integrated into the game."
Additionally, longtime Black Ops team Treyarch is apparently handling Multiplayer and Zombies duties while recent Warzone developer Raven handles this year's campaign mode. At present, the teams are said to be aiming for an October 2024 launch for Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War.
It goes without saying that this information isn't confirmed at present, and we should find out about 2024's Call of Duty title in an official capacity in the coming months. This one sounds interesting though, and with a full development cycle behind it we could be in for a treat on Xbox later this year!
What do you make of this latest report on CoD 2024? Excited about a potential open world campaign? Drop your thoughts down below.

This is intriguing. I hope it is a little longer than the usual 5-6 hour campaign. If it can reach 10-15 hours, then I would be really interested.
Hopefully it doesn't take away from the action pieces that COD campaign are known for.
So much for this whole “skipping a year” thing that was touted awhile back.
@Dusk_Actual the touted year skip was 2023, as MWII was originally meant to be for 24 months, at least I thought so
RE this news, if true, kills any hype for me as a big COD campaign fan... campaign not being made by Treyarch, but Raven, who make Warzone... and its open world. So building on everything people hated about MWIII's campaign and ignoring the big cinematic set pieces and linear nature that make COD campaigns (to me, at least) so good!
Reeks of lazy cost cutting...
First impression? Yuck!!
MW3's campaign, in particular, the open world segments were complete garbage and I don't want a Far Cry experience from COD, I get that from Far Cry.
The needle was edging towards a buy for this game but now that's gone towards maybe not.
Don’t think this is the right way to go for COD to be honest because there’s plenty of people that aren’t ‘hardcore’ gamers and like COD for being pick up and play. Single player campaign has always been pretty short and linear with decent story and characters. That’s what it’s known for so why change?
Interesting. I only really get CoD titles many years after they come out as I don't care about the multiplayer, and I'm not paying the high price for a campaign you finish in 2-3 reasonable sessions.
I doubt it'll be Far Cry levels of open world campaign, but at least they're not just going to treat the campaign as an afterthought.
The thing that will determine if I buy it or not: 4 player, split-screen, zombies.
If not, then will be a pass.
My first thought is that this will not work with COD. But, that's what I thought about Halo Infinite, until I played it. So, hopefully it turns out great. The COD franchise has a great track record so I don't think this will be bad.
@Kaloudz I think having a sandbox COD campaign could be pretty fun, just to mix things up. Could still have c those bombastic set piece missions baked in
"We may even see story campaign expansions or PvE/PvP sort of additions. So many different ways this could go."
See this would be wicked, it might even be fairly easy to take Warzone updates and plug them in with AI from the campaign, heck I'd even pay for it if it was meaty enough
I don't know if this campaign will be good but I think it's a good thing anyway.
-Even if it's unsuccessful, as an experiment it'll not doubt give them better ideas to use later.
-It might be the kick in the butt Farcry needs.
I think this maybe the first time they bring players a new type of campaign mode like what has happened with other modes over the past couple of releases, could it be a live a service type mode like the recent zombie mode with the publisher/developer wanting player retention.
