Earlier this week, it was announced that Obsidian's superb Pentiment was crossing over from being an Xbox exclusive to joining the PS5 and Nintendo Switch consoles, and so far that decision seems to have gone down pretty well.
However, what's not going down well is how Obsidian is marketing the new physical versions in terms of these releases, as a social media post yesterday was criticised for "prioritising" the the other two systems rather than Xbox.
As you can see in the image below, the Xbox version was pushed to the back, and this didn't go unnoticed:
Gabe on Twitter: "Jesus. You guys can't even put the Xbox version first. YOU'RE A FIRST PARTY STUDIO"
Caru14 on Twitter: "Xbox version in the back. No physical when it came to Xbox, but now when it is on PS5 it has a physical release. Give me a break, we are the most abused fan base"
ProteinePlus on Twitter: "Make sure the Xbox one is well hidden in the back. We 2nd class Xbox citizens don’t deserve better."
You could argue that some people are overreacting a bit here (especially considering Limited Run put the Xbox version first in their marketing material), but we can also understand why it's a bad look to be publishing materials along these lines. Obsidian is a first-party Xbox studio at the end of the day, and you wouldn't know it based on this.
Anyway, we're probably going to keep seeing criticism like this as time goes on - there's also been some discussion about the lack of an "Xbox Game Studios" logo on the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch versions, for example. As Phil Spencer mentioned recently, Team Xbox will be "learning" a lot from these new multiplatform releases.
