Since the rocky launch and mixed fan reception for Battlefield 2042, EA has been re-shaping the future of the franchise through various different internal projects. One of those projects, a new single-player installment in the series, has seemingly just lost one of its directors.
Marcus Lehto, who co-created Halo in his time at Bungie, was until recently at the helm of Ridgeline Games - EA's new Seattle-based studio in charge of this Battlefield single-player project. Lehto has now removed any mention of this from his Twitter bio, while also announcing his departure from the team on his personal Facebook page.
Funnily enough, those social pages also contain a recent post with Lehto and his now-former colleagues enjoying lunch in Seattle. Lehto's departure appears to have been an abrupt one - with just three weeks passing between this lunch meeting and the director's departure from Ridgeline Games.
It may be some time until we hear about the future of Battlefield, then. The series' main developer DICE, who built 2042 back in 2021, will be deep into development on future Battlefield multiplayer - while the team at Ridgeline Games will have to continue on this single-player path without Lehto's involvement.
