If you've played Baldur's Gate 3, you'll know that it has the potential for some risqué scenes, and one particular Xbox owner is warning other BG3 fans to avoid uploading any clips like this to the Xbox servers.
That's because the user, known as Daddy-Vegas on Reddit, has received a 366-day suspension for recording and accidentally uploading three clips that depicted "some naked camp time fun". You can see the suspensions below:
"I recorded 3 clips last night of some naked camp time fun. Xbox, by default, uploads all recorded clips to the server for easy sharing. Each clip counted as a different infraction and got my account banned for a year. I'm hoping the appeals process fixes this, but as of now; I can't play any game that requires a network connection (basically making all the money I put into MW3 over the last 6 months even more worthless)".
As mentioned, Daddy-Vegas wasn't aware that they had uploaded these clips to the Xbox servers, as this feature has to be turned off manually. If you want to know how to do that, here are the instructions:
- Go to Profile & System
- Go to Settings
- Choose Preferences
- Go to Capture & Share
- Choose Automatic Uploads
- Turn off the feature from here!
Obviously it doesn't seem fair that this Reddit user received such a large suspension for simply playing and recording a game on their Xbox console, so hopefully the appeals process will be able to identify this and take it away. In any case, it's a good reminder that if you want to avoid any similar problems, it's best to turn off automatic uploads!

I'm of the mindset that if they allow the game on their console no content part of if should result in a ban.
If they don't want certain content uploaded they need to either not allow the game on the platform or disable recordings for the game.
Certain games already do this with with cinematics or prerelease builds. It would simply be taking it a step further. If a game's rating had certain content in it, disable recording.
What I find amusing though is a little bit of booba is a banable offense. However you can show people being blown to kibbles and bits, and that's A-okay.
Seems super backward to me.
My brother's friend got a 21-day suspension for uploading a clip from the character selection where they showed some lizussy.
I'm sure he'll learn his lesson really fast on how to turn auto uploading to the server off.
@InterceptorAlpha They probably could do that easily. Been a few times where I've accidentally pressed that damn share button while on Sea of Thieves insider. A message pops up saying this content can't be shared or something like that.
So he was banned for simply uploading them? Not even sharing them? That’s ludicrous.
So MS is cool with this content being playable on Xbox, but you better not take a screenshot of it?
I hope this gets fixed ASAP. If not, they need to make auto upload something you opt into, not automatic. I know I've accidentally hit the share button on occasion — and sometimes I didn't even know I did until I saw saved screens later.
Scary to think you could be locked out for a year just for simply using the feature Xbox put right there on the controller.
Can't xbox just remove any clips without giving people a strike. Xbox should auto review each clip and see if anything is too sensitive for Xbox and deny the upload. Doesn't seem fair for people that just wanted to save a clip.
@J_Mo_Money shouldn’t it really be Microsoft learning a lesson in this instance? Gamers shouldn’t need to change the way they use an integrated feature on a console they have spent good money on just to cater for an overly aggressive censoring system.

Will Larian make a patch to satisfy Microsoft's puritanical leanings 😅....looks like BG3 is quite a curse on Xbox.
@GeeEssEff i find it funny, regardless. You certainly wont catch me taking a clip of that, as i wouldn't feel the need to anyway.
Live and learn.
Lol....they need to get this sorted before GTA 6
@InterceptorAlpha I 100% agree… however….
(I could be wrong in my thinking as I do 0 uploads/social media and so on)
But BG3 has an age rating. Do these sort of uploads have an age rating attached? And if not is this what could be causing the issue and ban? As children could then view it?
The auto upload to sever should be off automatically. So you have turn it on to upload.
Seems all the wrong way round to me, this would never get past a risk analysis in the my safety world.
We would say, auto upload off by default, and requires, turning on by the user.
Microsoft should fully be held accountable for what has happened as they take the uncontrolled risk of having it turned on by default.
@TheCrafter1578 Yea, that's a ***** show waiting to happen.
This is BS, if I own a game, the console, the service I should be free to take the screenshots or videos I want for myself (uploading to a public space is a different story).
Honestly captures on Xbox are such a convoluted mess that I just stoped taking them, you now need to manage captures on the internal storage, the Xbox network and OneDrive, all with the stupid limitation of not being able to record more than 1 minute unless you have a specially-formatted drive connected to the Xbox but if you connect it you can’t save your capture to other place other than the drive, honestly how can it remain this bad ever since last generation?
I'm not sure how this is even acceptable. Microsoft needs to fix this and focus on the right things. One of them should be not banning gamers for stupid sh**!
Microsoft starting the new year off with yet more stupidity. Its like they are actively trying to drive customers away.
Just lately it seems like every time they make the news its because the nerfed an existing feature, made a dumb decision or broke something. When will they stop punching themselves in the face.
I've worked at a helpdesk and It's not only with Xbox content the case. For example if you take pictures your newborn at birth or children in the pool (in your own backyard) or your own kid in bath, it will be flagged by the bots. Xbox accounts freezed for a year is considered a mild warning since the OneDrive accounts containing your own kids will be blocked and inaccessible for life. Don't automatically upload stuff you Xbox or OneDrive.
Just turned all mine off.
Any type of capture to anywhere
Console, Xbox network and Xbox cloud.
Caught a one month ban myself, about 6 months ago. One picture from Cyberpunk had a nipple. I didn't even know they uploaded to anywhere anyone could see, as I wasn't sharing either. Appeals did not work, as ignorance of the rules, doesn't equal innocence. They said it nicer than that, but that's what it boiled down to.
I highly doubt they didn't know it was going to auto upload, and what they didn't see or hear the notification telling them it was uploaded? Sure could argue they have notifications off. They knew.
The entire complaint issue system and punishment is a ABSOLUTELY, HORRENDOUS and INSANELY flawed, broken beyond belief in any sensible manner.
Example, playing NHL, had the usual scrub teammate, that never passed the puck, never tried to setup plays, only tried to score the same goal over and over, continued to turn the puck over continuously, and was the team leader in turnovers for the team, probably led both teams. Yet all game he yelled at the team, called names, used belligerent profanity. Of course, we lost the game. So end of game I sent a message, funny how the loudest complainers are often the worst player on the team. I did use profanity or insensitive adjectives. Within guess 30 mins, i had 3 day online ban, and was like what the heck.
But when players are dropping F bombs and excessively calling people the N word, with Hard R, not A, and I report them, using the voice clip method nonetheless (also like add offenders are Xbox users, not other cross-platform players) and this method clearly displays whom is speaking. I ALWAYS get an Xbox message, after review no action was taken.
WTF? It makes ZERO sense. Period. System is incredibly broken.
this is really dumb I have hit that button by mistake countless times. scary to think you could get banned for that.
Ok I agree this is a bit harsh. However I wonder how many people would complain when loads of people start uploading inappropriate images. You can't have it both ways. And no way he didn't know it SS. Of all the time he played it just so happens that he 'accidentally ' managed to upload 3 clips all inappropriate. Hmm. I say on this occasion well done XboX.
@J_Mo_Money he is more likely to learn to play on a different platform, unfortunately.
This player might not get their account restored in appeal, but he can always just get the game on PS5 or PC and play there due to the way I understand cross-progression works on that game.
MS really needs to address this, the rating of a game should be factored while auto-sharing clips and their audience.
Must. Resist. Snarky. Comeback.
But it’s perfectly fine to blow someone’s brains out in a FPS and upload it?
The Phil Spencer era really took away the gamer edge to Xbox. So much is banned. Everything is toxic. The original Xbox and Xbox 360 were awesome and had a great vibe.
This bull$h!t, right after Microsoft is trying to tell me that my controller that came with my series x is not covered under the Microsoft Complete Xbox extened warranty. It says that it is on the main page of the website as well as in my actual warranty document. It is called complete after all. I guess I just gotta keep calling until sometime knows what they are doing. Anyways, I have my screenshots upload to OneDrive only. I was so happy when they added that feature.
1: It's stupid that Microsoft bans the uploading of stuff found in games that are on their own platform.
2. Bro, why you recording nakey clips? There are websites for that.
Scumbag move by MS and it's insane that there are some people defending this.
@ValkyriaProfile All digital is huge mistake. People truly not understand the insane issues it will bring.
