There's been a lot of talk ahead of this week's Xbox Developer Direct event about whether Microsoft will pull another Hi-Fi RUSH on us - revealing a game during the show and then announcing it's available immediately after it.
However, that's seemingly not going to happen. In an official Xbox post that was shared earlier today, it was mentioned that "all" games shown during the Developer Direct will release "later". Here's a look:
"When will the games in the show be released? All the games in this year’s Developer_Direct will be arriving later, with more details to be shared in the program."
Of course, this doesn't mean we won't get any surprises during the Xbox Developer Direct this year, but it does appear to dismiss any suggestion of a same-day shadow drop. Hi-Fi RUSH was clearly a very special case in 2023!

Well, 'later' could be as little as minutes, or just days... 😉
Expect the 4 games and nothing else. If there is a surprise it will hit you harder if there isn't a surprise then you won't be disappointed.
It's going to be frustrating to see people complain because game x wasn't there when xbox told us exactly which games will be there. Are they going to have to release the entire script of the show beforehand for people to set their expectations correctly?
I wasn’t expecting a shadow drop. Do it once, and many expect it every time. It was a great treat last year but I’m not expecting one this year.

@BacklogBrad If you go in with no additional expectations how can you be outraged after the event? I expect a Gears Trilogy shadow drop or I will start a riot (on the internet in vitriolic text form of course).
As long as I get to see the Indiana actual game footage I'll be happy with the DD

Same here I want to see Indiana looking gorgeous and playing even better, so enjoy action adventure like tomb raider.
This game needs to be so top AAA for me.
Anything that miraculously appears in Gamepass feels like a shadow drop anyways … always a couple of these each month…
@OldGamer999 it's a double edged sword for me either I will b disappointed or I will love it and it's ages away and at my age I don't know if I will b around by then lol

I was hoping for this year but who knows could be 2025 or even 2026.
do we even know whats gonna be the 1st quarter 1st party game on gp? we have 2 and a half months left to the end of 1st quarter. im guessing avowed is releasing soon?
They have literally told us what they will be showing off and yet people still go and create rumours about other things happening, really annoys me. Just look forward to the content they have told us about!
If they do it again it’ll be expected every year. I don’t think they want that as part of their plan.
Well that's boring. And they still haven't put out an Activision game on GP.
