Sonic X Shadow Generations Brings Its 'All-New Collection' To Xbox In Autumn 2024

This might be the first Sonic game I buy for full price in a hot minute. Generations itself is an amazing game, but despite the concept and being a bit wonkier than the Adventure games, Shadow the Hedgehog had some great Stages and Boss Fights that I'm glad will get some attention in addition to more from the other games already featured.

Damn, saw the headline and was kind of hoping for some 2D Shadow levels. Looks like they only showed 3D levels which will probably worth a play but nothing I will get too excited over. Hopefully they do some 2D stuff but I won't get my hopes up

Sonic Generations is the best Sonic 3D game ever (in my opinion) and runs in 4K 60fps on Series X, so I was hoping for the older games to be remastered or remade: Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes... They remastered Sonic Colours recently.

This might also be a full price purchase from me (long as it's not launching the same week as the next 3d mario) 😉

@Banjo- A hypothetical Sonic Adventure remake and proper Sonic Adventure 3 (Heroes and especially '06 don't count) are in my top 5 dream games, for sure. And I'll probably be dreaming for a long time!

Not sure what remasters of SA1&2 would look like, though, since those already exist... they're not amazing out of the box, but I can't see anything even as ambitious as the Dreamcast restoration mods ever happening officially, as SA1 in particular is a mess. It would probably be cheaper to rebuild it from scratch than to overhaul it in any meaningful way!

@smoreon I agree! It makes more sense to remake them on the newer engine and that also would make easy to get rid of the awful camera of the early Sonic 3D games.

Sonic Generations is about the last game to need a remaster (the vanilla PC version is still gorgeous), but this Shadow content is a real surprise. I'm intrigued!

@Banjo- Makes sense to reuse the underlying tech, though I wouldn't want them to put in the slippery controls and "boostathon" gameplay that we've seen in the modern Sonic games. That would be a monkey's paw wish, if I've ever had one!
(I do like the modern Sonic games, but they're not at all the same thing.)

@smoreon I think that just the camera needs a lot of working. I agree, the gameplay should be kept intact, but it's fine if they remove lives and add other quality of life features, if you ask me.

One of my favorite Xbox 360 games, and I really enjoy playing it on the Series X. Looking forward to this new version of it as well.

very dissapointing news. i want unleashed; generations is overrated & its already remastered on PC. im actually pissed off.

@Kaloudz yea they're on a roll by reaching for the low hanging fruit capitalizing on peoples nostalgia emotions yet again by remastering a game thats already based on remastering games.

sonic team knows how to play their cards while being as lazy as possible. expect the next sonic game after this to be another sonic mania game that takes old ideas/games and repackages them

@Kaloudz i like generations, i just like unleashed more and think its criminally underrated. werehog i totally get, i don't like it either, but im more specifically talking about the day levels and sonics gameplay. i also love how it feels like an adventure and has more lore or content to it.

its long overdue for a port to PC and modern platforms, i already have generations on PC that already is a remaster compared to the console versions and its just messed up that the people that do like unleashed are just completely screwed over. im tired of playing the game on my ps3.

edit: also, unleashed will be the ONLY boost game thats not on modern platforms. Colors/Generations/Forces/Frontiers are all on steam. its not fair and such BS

@nomither6 Do you know what pissed me off? The first thing I read about this show was "Sonic X Shadow Generations Brings Its All-New Collection to Xbox" I was like, "No way! A remastered Sonic 3D collection!" It's Sega's fault or whoever defined the new release as an all-new collection 😅.

@Kaloudz well 06 is going to need way more than just a port or remaster, they need to redo the entire thing from scratch. 06 isnt backwards compatible because sega is embarrased of it; but i do have the game on my ps3 as well and i actually like 06 despite the issues. it deserves a second chance because it didnt get the development time it needed.

if you ever do try 06 now, i think youll enjoy it. you already know what to expect and your expectations so youre just there for the ride.

@Banjo- i feel you, that also sucks too. i mean, what theyre doing is cool and all, and SOMEWHAT makes sense for the upcoming movie...

but a 3D remaster wouldve been better without a doubt. they couldve just re-released generations and added the content as DLC while fully remastering the 3D adventure games and heroes. but they went for the low hanging fruit.

@nomither6 Yep and we were talking about remastering/remaking the old titles, not long ago.

@Kaloudz unleashed isn’t playable on ps5 and PC so, no, 06/heroes/shadow arent the only ones that can’t be played on current gen, which is why it upsets me so much that they can’t be arsed to port the game .
