Riot Games, best known for League of Legends, has today confirmed 530 layoffs globally, which is about 11% of its workforce.
In a lengthy post on its official website, it explained how this decision was "critical" for the future of the company. It wants to return its focus to its core games and live service titles like League and Valorant.
"Our strategy moving forward is clear: we’re honing in on what we do best and what resonates most with you. Every endeavor, from development to storytelling to competition, will be crafted to deliver meaningful, memorable experiences with games at the center."
As a result, the teams impacted are the ones "outside of core development". Although games like 'Project L' are still on track, unfortunately, there have been some cutbacks with certain other projects. This includes downsizing Legends of Runeterra's development team and the end of Riot Forge's publishing efforts.
Riot Forge was responsible for publishing six 'League of Legends story' games in partnership with indie developers. Although Riot hasn't released any of its 'core' games on Xbox, it has made them available on PC Game Pass.

Does that mean Wild Rift is no longer coming to Xbox? There seemed some hype behind that.
@InterceptorAlpha From the official site:
"Our vision for the future is bold and our commitment to our core live games – League of Legends, VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics, and Wild Rift – is more ambitious than ever."
I feel sad about the Riot Forge - all games published by them have been great so far. Such a rare example of treating your own franchise well.
@InterceptorAlpha I suspect this means that making ports of the main client or Wild Rift for consoles may happen, but they're focusing on new content for the main games instead of completely new games.
