Sea of Stars has undoubtedly been one of our favourite Xbox Game Pass additions in 2023, and it's actually been one of our favourite Xbox games in general, scoring an "Outstanding" 10/10 in our review back in August.
We're obviously delighted to see that it's resonated with players across platforms, achieving the "remarkable milestone" of surpassing four million players in less than four months. Here's the confirmation:
At least a couple of those millions of players will almost certainly have come from Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium, with both services including the title on day one earlier this year. It's clearly been a big hit with the Pure Xbox community on Game Pass, as it's fighting for a top ten spot in our annual GOTY rankings!
If you haven't played it yet, here's a sample from our review that might encourage you to check it out:
"Don't spoil this one for yourself, dive in as blind as you can and enjoy a truly magical journey that's easily one of the best games you'll play this year and an absolutely essential addition to Xbox Game Pass."

Imo it deserves twice those numbers!
It was a real pleasure to play this title as it was clearly a labour of love and it reminded me why I love this style of rpg so much. Its top of my lists for this year..
This was one of my favorite games of the year. The graphics, the story and the characters were all enjoyable.
I really loved that game. It was my personal game of the year. A lot of great games came out in 2023, but this is the one that stuck out the most to me.
Game Pass, the gift that keeps on giving. Top 3 game for me this year ...
I am happy that this sight mentions both subscription services for the success of this game. That is how reporting should be done. Push of course will only mention anything Xbox related unless it is negative or another Sony wins article. This related article on Push did not even mention Game Pass. It makes my blood boil.
Tried it and couldn't get into it. Still, really glad it was such a success. Wasn't this one from the guys that made The Messenger? Really liked that one. I've read somewhere that there was a reference in the game.
I've been playing for a few weeks on and off. I have not yet hit the point where I understand what people love so much about the game. No plans to stop, though.
