Remember when translucent gaming products were a big thing? Sure, we've had a few official Xbox controllers recently that are carrying that retro-inspired torch, but back in the day almost every gaming platform had some see-through tech to show off. Well, third-party manufacturer 'Retro Game Restore' is looking to bring back the trend in 2024.
Okay, when we say "bring back", these will still be products for the decades-old original Xbox console, but still, they are pretty darn cool! The team wants to know which OG Xbox shell colours you'd all like to see - and they've presented some options on Twitter:
There's a survey too if you want to provide feedback to the team - who are based in Taiwan and currently make quite a few retro bits & pieces including other console shells, adapters, cartridge covers and so on. At the moment, the 'Dark Smoked' variant seems to be the most popular!
Anyway, the site is planning on manufacturing these next year, so if it's something you'd like to own then it might be worth weighing in here and hoping the team brings your chosen colour to market. We quite like the 'Clear' option, which as it turns out, is the least popular choice right now! Each to their own, we suppose.
Which of these colours do you like best? Would you buy one? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

Man. I love them all. The green one reminds me of my Halo Xbox and matches my Elite Series 2 controller.
This also reminds me how much of a bummer it is that nobody makes Series X shells like this. You used to even be able to buy translucent 360 shells.
I never enjoyed the see thru style. Just looked cheap to me.
@GuyinPA75 got to agree. None look particularly appealing at all. And then they will charge some ridiculous price for them.
God bless the people who would be interested in this unless you have money to burn as I would even buy some crazy stuff
I’m not much of a fan of any of them but if I had to pick one, I’d say green as it’s the Xbox color.
Dark smoke is the only one I'd probably buy, but hopefully they are premium materials like what Xbox One and Series consoles use. None of the cheap stuff. I'd personally consider $100 or cheaper. More is too much.
Well they already made the translucent green officially, I got one, so I guess the translucent black.
Leave the original shell on. This is the way.
@InterceptorAlpha if you are interested in stuff like that, might be worth checking this out.

@SoulChimera Oooooh. Well that'a nice. i have FDM printer I've been experimenting on with translucent filament and XTC-3D. But if I can just cut some plexi and and print supports......
Downloaded the dxf and stls from the link. Will look into it tomorrow as tonight is game night. You may very well be my hero for the year.
I was elected to lead not to read, NUMBER THREE!
