In some surprising news, Remnant 2 and Remnant: From the Ashes have both been made available on Xbox Game Pass today.
If you haven't kept tabs on this series, Remnant 2 by Gunfire Games has been one of the video game highlights of this year, offering up a quality solo and co-op Soulslike experience. The same title also received its first DLC update "The Awakened King" earlier this month.
It follows on from the first game, Remnant: From the Ashes, which was originally released on the Xbox One and multiple other platforms in August 2019. It's also previously been released on Game Pass. The reasons behind this surprise release on Xbox Game Pass today aren't known, but both titles have also been made available on PC Game Pass.
Remnant: From The Ashes (Console, PC, Cloud)
"The world has been thrown into chaos by an ancient evil from another dimension. As one of the last remnants of humanity, you must set out alone or alongside up to two other survivors to face down hordes of deadly enemies to try to carve a foothold, rebuild, and retake what was lost."
Remnant 2 (Console, PC, Cloud)
"Remnant II pits survivors of humanity against new deadly creatures and god-like bosses across terrifying worlds. Play solo or co-op with two other friends to explore the depths of the unknown to stop an evil from destroying reality itself."

Remnant 2 is so good. It's by far the best co-op soulslike but even solo it's fantastic. The class system in 2 is neat, you pick 2 classes at a time to level, and one of them excels at solo play - the dog handler, so youre not really playing alone after all. There's awesome build diversity, itemization, and replayability due to world randomization - you may get completely different bosses on your next playthrough, with alternate methods of defeating them, which in turn give different rewards.
Also for a soulslike, Remnant 2 has a pretty cool story, which gives me Haloish vibes in a good way. Sci fi with characters who have fairy tale-esque names or titles.
Anyway yeah, highly recommend, with a friend or 2 if you can swing it, but solo is just fine.
Remnant 2 is fantastic and easily one of my favourite games this year.
Happy to see they brought back the original. My friends and I never finished it when it was on GP in the past, and now we can finally see it through at no extra cost
Sounds like some big news. Might have to at least check out the first game.
Wow that is cool! About to download it right now.
Ho Travelers! The beauty of Gamepass is, I got to co-op Remnant From The Ashes with 2 of my friends who don’t really buy games. But I convinced them to check it out with me and we all loved it. So now hopefully we can do it again with the 2nd game. Awesome news to me personally.
Sweet I nearly picked it up on Black Friday for like £22.
Nice I struggled to not buy II on Blackfriday, would have been very annoyed instead of very happy.
Sweet mother of Jones! This is rather amazeballs, and to think that folks were worried about a quite GamePass month for December 😁. Now to find some time to play....
Genuinely a nice surprise. I was holding back on cashing up for Remnant 2, but itch was starting to grow...
I liked first part but it was obvious that it was balanced around multiplayer. I hope this one is more easier for single player.
Both games are great and well worth to play. Own both but happy more people get to enjoy them.
Hm, the Devs for this one are owned by Embracer, who are absolutely up ***** creek when it comes to finances.
Wonder if it's just the Remnant games, or whether there's going to be a big push of older THQ/Nordic/Koch/Deep Silver/Embracer titles over the next few months as Embracer tries to recoup some of their overspend.
Sweet, will give both games a go!
@Sol4ris well technically it’s still November for most of the world
Lovely surprise, Remnant 2 has been on my radar for a while
Man, this year has been crazy, and Game Pass is not the exception!
@Cakefish
well technically it’s still November for most of the world
.....true but, well (a day) its neither here nor there 😉.
That's great not played them the only downside for me I don't like hard games elden ring etc still great have them on gamepass though
Just started Remnant 2. It’s amazing so far. Can’t wait to play this with friends.
Both are incredible additions
Wow, I was so close to buying this multiple times. Definitely will play this on GP.
What does Souls Like mean?
Yessss at last, nearly picked it up on sale yesterday.
Now I just gotta find some people to play it with hehe.
@Spider-Kev dunno if serious or not but it refers to the formula often used by fromsoftware in their games 'starting' with Demon's Souls.
You can basically dumb it down by saying it's hard.
@Cherip-the-Ripper
Never played Demon Souls, honestly not sure I even know of the series.
@Spider-Kev works the same way for Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro and Elden Ring haha
I've heard of Dark souls. No idea what type of game it is.
Heard of Elden ring, doesn't seem to be my type of game, going by the webm videos.
Not heard of the other two as far as I can remember
@Cherip-the-Ripper
@Spider-Kev Elden ring was everywhere for about a year and if you're on this site much I find it hard to believe you don't have a slight clue about these games there high difficulty high reward games hopefully these two games live up to the name I will try the first one tonight
My weekend looking good.
@Vordus I think you're on to something.
Soulslike games typically have tough, visceral combat that is hard to 'learn' but incredibly satisfying and rewarding. It kind of encourages you to get into fights because you want to challenge yourself and have a good tear up. Button mashing might work on the weaker enemies, but normally you have to learn how to take them down by working out their weaknesses, knowing when to parry etc.
Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, Sekiro are the originals (From Software), and games like Lies of Pi, Wo Long etc try to replicate it.
Not everyone gets on with them due to the difficulty, especially boss fights which can be insane.
