The first-person shooter series TimeSplitters was meant to be making a comeback after UK developer Free Radical Design was revived in 2021. Unfortunately, in a new update, it seems the studio is now at risk of being closed down by its parent company Embracer Group.
According to VGC, Embracer is still busy with its "restructuring program" which has already resulted in studios like the Saints Row developer Volition shutting down. Now, "people close to Free Radical Design" have reportedly been given the heads up it could be next on the chopping block.
The future of the studio isn't looking promising at this point, with the source further noting how "at least 15 people employed at Free Radical" are already seeking work. This is according to their LinkedIn and social media pages. Some of the people on the hunt for new jobs include a lead game designer, senior artists, game designer, and IT manager.
If a studio closure was to go ahead, it's unclear at this stage what exactly will happen to the new TimeSplitters project, but if we hear any updates, we'll let you know.
