We're getting closer and closer to the arrival of Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and it feels like the most recent breakthrough with the Series S version means we'll hopefully still be playing it before the end of 2023.
Xbox is late to the party though, and both PC and PS5 owners have had the chance to enjoy this unbelievable CRPG for a little while now. That means Microsoft will inevitably miss out on a few sales from those who couldn't wait for it to arrive on Series X and Series S, which is understandable considering the incredible reviews.
So, where do you stand in the whole Baldur's Gate 3 scenario? Have you been saving up your Microsoft Rewards points like us ahead of its impending arrival? Did you buy it for another system and therefore will be avoiding the Xbox release? Or are you totally uninterested in the game and don't understand what the fuss is about?
We'd love to hear from you down in the comments below, and we've also put together a poll so you can tell us whether you'll be buying the game for Xbox Series X|S or not. Tell us whether you think it'll definitely be a 2023 release as well!
Will you be buying Baldur's Gate 3 for Xbox Series X|S? Come and tell us!

Heard of it but never played any of the series so I have no interest. Maybe I'll try it if it ever hits GP.
I usually don’t like Western RPG games (and divinity is sitting in my backlog for months) I’ll guess I will eventually buy it on Series X, but I am in not rush, will wait for a sale.
Where's the options for
1) I'll see what the reviews say first
2) I'll wait until they iron out all the bugs first.
This is undoubtedly game of the year.
I'm playing it elsewhere through so no, not on Xbox.
I will as soon as its out, Backlog be dammed haha. I hope it controls and runs well on series X though. Might just wait for a review to confirm that. Looked like it controlled grand on Playstation 5
Eventually I’ll buy it, but my queue is full for the rest of the year.
For me the backlog is real so eventually… an instant buy in normal times…
I have it on PS5 but my ps5 is upstairs collecting dust so i'm considering the double dip. Would've been nice to come out at the same time
If there was a physical copy I would buy it day One, since there is not and I am not big into this type of RPG gameplay I will probably wait for a sale (but with a big chance I just bite the bullet...)
Bought it on PS5, had a bunch of technical issues which sort of soured me on it after all of the hype, and having a hard time feeling like I want to go back to it, honestly. I mean, I eventually will, but still…
No. Microsoft dropped the ball hard with this parity clause.
Already got it on my PC. If they release it on Gamepass, I'll check it out there. Otherwise I'm set.
Never played the first two games, but there's been so much buzz around this one that I'm definitely going to give it a try.
If I can afford it I will buy it so ideally yes
but the backlight on my tv has been broken for 6 months or more
So 20percent of my tv has been very dark if I ever save up enough to get that fixed cyberpunk and baulders gate 3 may be my next game purchase but by that point it will probably be 2028
I hate being poor thankfully that's why I have gamepass
This is so hard for me to decide. It’s not my type of game but it’s supposed to be a masterpiece so why not? I’m concerned about console UI but people I trust love it. The world and lore look amazing but that’s true of Divinity 2 and I’ve owned that for years without bothering to play it.
@Kieduss the other games in the series are from the 90's, so it's safe to say that very few people ever played the previous games.
I'll buy it eventually, but I don't think I'll get it on release... too many games on my backlog. I'm playing Alan Wake 1 now, then I'll play Control and its expansions, since I never finished the main campaign, and then it's time for Alan Wake 2, which I already purchased. Considering that I'm also on-again off-again playing Halo Infinite, Forza Motorsport and Cities Skylines, as well, I don't think I'll be playing a 150 hour long RPG at least until early next-year.
Not sure this is my type of game but I will consider once it is released.
Nope, not for the foreseeable future anyway. It will be unfair to my already huge backlog🙃.
Not sure I can wait for the Xbox version. I’ve just finished Cyberpunk / Phantom Liberty, and close to finishing Spider-Man 2, so I’m looking for a new game to play. It’s either gonna be BG3 or Alan Wake 2.
No interest from my perspective - I don't play any game with Turn based combat regardless...
Each to their own of course but its not for me...
Probably not, I own the original 2 games on Steam and haven't gotten around to playing them yet, so I'm more interested in those. I also own the Divinity games and haven't played them yet either...Maybe in 2040 when I'm caught up I'll be able to get around to this.
If it gets a US physical release on xbox I will probably get it. Otherwise it will be a PC purchase when it gets to the sub $20 range.
If it comes to gamepass I will otherwise no
I already own it on PC and haven't had the time to start it there.
I'm genuinely losing my mind waiting for BG3 on Xbox. I'd be happy with even a release date at this point just give me SOMETHING
I have been saying for months that this game is a masterpiece, and now it has just won the Ultimate Game of the Year award at the Golden Joysticks.
I completed a 300 hour single run through of the game last week, and once the run was completed I still wanted to play more, which for me, says it all.
I bought the game in Early Access, and then bought the Collector's Edition for both the PC and then the PlayStation. I will be buying the game again (as a pre-order) the moment I am able. The game is magnificent. It is, for me, the best game ever made, and deserves all the plaudits it gets. Absolutely cannot wait for it to release on the Xbox. I have so many ideas for differing builds it's ridiculous...
I have played a 300 hours run on the PC, @RBRTMNZ, doing so only using a controller. The UI is, in my opinion, very well done, and I think probably better than the PC because the UI on the PC hides a significant portion of the bottom of the screen, whereas the UI with a controller does not.
I have just finished a 300 hour run through of BG3, @Kieduss and @RazputinAquato, without having played the first two games. At no point did I feel that I needed to have done so. To me, it didn't really feel like a sequel because the story stands alone on its own merits. It had a start and a finish, and never gave the impression that anything had ever come before it. So, to my mind, there is no imperative to have played the first two games...

I am a little bit surprised with most of the comments here. Guess, there is a strong need to clarify some moments about BG here.
1. You don't need to know anything about Dungeon & Dragons, Forgotten Realms, previous titles like Neverwinter Nights 1-3, Baldur's Gate 1-2, etc.. The world and the narrative do a great job telling everything you need in different ways: from in-game cinematics to insane amount of books and notes. You will understand the game better if you are already familiar with something from the list above, but that is not mandatory.
2. Don't be afraid of dices. It is an awesome and easy mechanic once you've thrown them a couple of times. Remember Dragon Age: Origins? It had dice, too. You simply did not pay enough attention to them.
3. Give turn-based combat a try. It is very in-depth, yet easy to go. And fun. Amount of different actions you can take to eliminate all the enemies is insane: starting from throwing fireballs into a pack of wolves to beating a giant spider with a piece of baloney.
4. There is no insane amount of text. Remember Pillars of Eternity 1-2? Where you need a binocular even with a 85" TV? All crucial test here is dubbed, you can adjust the size of it in the game or entirely miss reading something besides the dialogue phrases.
5. UI and controller support are done so damn well(. Everything is easy to target, all the actions are intuitive. Solid work.
6. It is the best RPG out there due moment and will stay so for a while. I wrote best RPG not cRPG / aRPG / etc., because all the elements here are mastered to perfection: best cinematics in genre, tons of classes, spells and equipment, great replay value and variety, hand-made outstanding content (from location to quests and dialogues).
There is literally no excuse not to try Baldur's Gate 3. This is an RPG gem in a gaming crown and one of the best games made out there. Larian did a great job and they are one of a few studios who continue making great products and real games for gamers. There is no coincidence is took all the awards at the Golden Joystick Awards 2023 and this is just the beginning. Just read some reviews in steam and preorder it on XBOX. I've played this game in Early Access via Steam, I completed it on PS5 and hell yeah I will buy for xbox one more time.
No interest whatsoever.
I will.be picking it up of course. However I would like run my players through the prequel first.
@Tomato_Goose @Fiendish-Beaver The only thing that is related to BG 3 is the adventure Baulder's Gate Decent into Avernus for 5th edition. It's a prequel to it but is not necessary to play the game or understand it.
@Tomato_Goose I can only speak from my own perspective, but I want to play games where I am fully in Control of my character in a combat situation and not have ANY element of 'luck' involved at all.
Nothing ruins a game for me more than stopping to take turns at hitting each other whilst everyone stands around watching. I absolutely hate it and nothing you can say would change my opinion. The more games have given me 'control' over much more of the action than ever, I certainly don't want to go back.
from the 'left/right' and fire of space invaders (no luck, just timing) to Super Mario Bros to SM64, to modern day games, interacting with enemies has significantly improved. I know why it was used (because hardware couldn't do it and all the 'rest' of the game) - So I stayed away from games with 'luck' involved and kept too games where I am in full control - at least in 'combat'. If I get hit, it's because I wasn't moving or blocking - not because its the enemies turn and never will be - I want to be in full control of my health bar at all times in game!
Unless it's a tiny part, like orlog in AC:Valhalla for Quests that I had to do, I don't play any game of chance even as 'mini-games' either, I don't Gamble and never played D&D/Role playing board games on which this is based too so I get that it makes 'sense' in context of the 'origins' of this genre but it's not what I want, or will play - certainly not whilst many other games offer 'real time' combat. Even 2d Mario has more control, timing the jumps or fire options when you can - none of this take it turns charade before giving control back to the player to 'move' again...
Its a design choice for the studio's and they will have some who love they still do TBC and build a game so great with it in, but its a game-play feature I loathe and will never play a game with it.
So you see, there is absolutely nothing you can say that will convince to give it a 'go' - even for Free on Game Pass if it were to come to it. I say the same about Suns of Midnight too btw and I wanted that story and much more a Marvel fan, but won't ever play that either so this has NO chance.
As I said, it's my 'personal' reason and opinion - as others have expressed their reasons for perhaps not being interested - however you seem to want to tell people why their opinions maybe 'wrong' I thought I'd give you more info on why your post doesn't matter...
I'm on the fence for this one. It does look super fun and super deep, but there is simply TOO MUCH happening for my taste. I hate overly complicated RPGs and this one reminds me of those super annoying games where everything breaks down and you have to manage your inventory etc etc. The turn-based combat isn't doing it any favors too...
I'll wait for a nice sale before I consider diving in. I know it's an incredible game but the genre can be a bit offputting sometimes
@RazputinAquato I did in late 90s. Also the remastered versions are available on xbox.
@Tomato_Goose Glad you will enjoy it but it's not for me buddy
Planning on scooping. The other two new (paid) releases I also want to play are Alan Wake 2 and Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn…sooo only reason I won’t buy upon release is if I’m in the middle of one of those. I just started P3P soooo might be a while before I get to any of them 🤣
My PlayStation Portal arrives soon so I might opt to get it on PlayStation.
Skipped it for ps5 because so many games....still so many games...will have to see what the situation is like nearer to release...havent finished Starfield or barely touched Spiderman 2....and I want to try and get into the new Like a dragon....I also want to play Alan wake 2 ffs lol
Would like to give it a go with the missus on couch co op
I’ll get it eventually but for the PS5 as I feel the extra horsepower over my Series S will make a big difference. Unless it hits gamepass of course!!
I'm hoping Santa brings it for Christmas this year. Fingers crossed 🤞.
I don't see myself getting it, since you asked.
Yes, BG2 was my favorite CRPG of all time for 20 years running until it was finally unseated by Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. So of course I'll be playing BG3, however if Rogue Trader releases around the same time, I'll probably that first.
I'm a huge fan of larian and I already bought it on PS5. Xbox is where I'd prefer to play. But I'm absolutely not double dipping because the way larian handled the whole Xbox situation really annoyed me. They weren't being honest about GENERAL optimization issues they were having. (They made it seem like a Xbox specific issue when the game could just use a bit more optimization across the board).
However, if it drops on gamepass, I'll move my save over and start playing there immediately.
I'm very much looking forward to playing this and I will get it, however I do have a lot of other games on the go at the moment that I would like to finish first so as not to distract from this wonderful game.
I've played some of it up to a certain point, right now me and a few friends are waiting for crossplay because we have two friends on pc while me and another have it on ps5.
Already own it on PS5 so nope from me but i'm happy Xbox owners will be playing it soon as its incredible.
