Over the past few days, there was a supposed "leak" via eXputer revealing Baldur's Gate 3 would be arriving on Xbox Series X|S systems on 6th December. Larian's director of publishing Michael Douse has now responded.
Taking to social media, he mentioned how this was the first he had essentially heard of a release date - reiterating how the team would know a launch date once it was "confident in the release version". Fortunately, the plan is to still deliver the game on Xbox before the end of the year:
"We’ll know the release date once we’re confident in the release version. The plan is still before the end of the year. The key takeaway here should be that we want a really good version that Xbox fans deserve. This means we’ll work on it until we’re happy to release it."
This follows on from a development update last week from the studio's founder and CEO Swen Vincke, who mentioned how the Xbox version was now being "actively playtested" and was "still on schedule for this year".
The delay issues on Xbox are tied to the Series S technical hurdles, with a decision to now drop split-screen co-op on Series S for the launch, and deliver it in a post-launch update.
So, with any luck, Baldur's Gate 3 will arrive on Xbox before the end of the year, but there's still no release date according to Larian. Will you be checking this game out when it does arrive on Xbox? Tell us below.

@GunValkyria wouldn't mind if it slipped actually. I'm trying my best to keep up.
@GunValkyria I have to agree with you there. The vague dates, even this close to the end of the year, is just PR speak for, "Well, we don't really know, but, it's most likely going to be pushed back to 2024." I'm expecting a statement in a few weeks that says, "Due to the polish we'd like to give this game, we feel it necessary to push it back to 2024. We apologize, but, we want to give all of our console consumers the best experience possible."
A date might be announced at the game awards
I had zero interest but somehow I have even less now.
@Lup Well worth reading the article and commenting so.
@Rob3008
You could say something related to the article.
But yeah. Slow day today.
The game is an absolute masterpiece. I have completed one run on my PC, and it clocked in at a little over 300 hours. Even after having finished it, I just wanted to play it again. However, I decided that I would wait until it releases on the Xbox, and then play through it at least once more at that point. There are so many differing playstyles, permeations and ramifications in this game that it offers thousands of hours of top quality entertainment to anyone that chooses to play it. Just be prepared to think of nothing other than Baldur's Gate 3 once you begin.
I certainly hope that Larian have acquired a warehouse in which to store all their forthcoming Game of the Year awards... 😂
