If you're struggling to find space for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on your Xbox, you're probably not alone. In fact, Activision has now issued a statement via social media addressing the game's file sizes across all platforms.
The reason it's so much "larger than last year" is tied to the "increased amount of content available on Day 1". This includes open-world Zombies, carry-over support for items from Modern Warfare 2, and the map files for Warzone. Activision has further noted how the "final installation size" will actually be smaller "than combined previous CoD experiences".
And if you are having trouble managing all the Call of Duty content, you can actually use the 'manage files' section in the Call of Duty HQ launcher menu to uninstall specific content, if you're not planning on playing all of it, or are done with certain parts.
Activision says it will share more information regarding the game's launch in the coming days. How are you coping with the new game's file size so far? Tell us in the comments.

As a Series S owner, this is a problem for me, and extra storage options are too expensive.
It’s not just COD. As we the gamers demand more graphical experiences, better sound quality and maybe bigger games then file sizes will grow.
But I will agree they could make the effort so you could just download the campaign if that’s your thing, or can you, I’m not sure.
Bring back the Commodore 64 and 15 minute noisey download times etc 😂😂😂
We have never had it so good in gaming.
What's them gonna say, we optimized stuff so ***** the in-game store alone took 100GB, patched a bunny hoe skin? That's en extra 10GB
See a few shops in the UK have dropped the series x price from £480 to £460.
Also noticed the new series s with 3 month GP
is now stocked for £250.
Anyway something different for Friday morning.
@OldGamer999 new series s as in the 1TB one?
@Scirius
No they have been available for a while.
The new series s 512gb bundle with 3 months game pass for £249.99.
I guess it’s to get you on game pass then hopefully after the 3 months people will then subscribe.
@Scirius
As advertised in Symths Toys
Xbox Series S Starter Bundle Includes 3 Months Ultimate Game Pass
£249.99
But it’s 512gb.
@Kaloudz mw3 campaign added about 53gb so far. Still have the rest of the game to go. I think it's about 140gb altogether with the launcher and WZ2.
@Kaloudz EG are reporting 200GB or so.
Ridiculous when much larger games like starfield and BG3 are 150ish
Absolute nonsense, This has been a problem since Modern Warfare 2019 and it’s only become worse. The updates are ridiculous these days too.
@nickeddowes
Thankfully COD allows you to install what you want to save room. So if you want to play the campaign, do so and when you are done uninstall it. And you still have multiplayer available
One of the reasons I uninstalled the whole COD MW(2) mess. The insane installation size , the even more absurd amount of patches and updates of crazy sizes. I have a lot of games installed but COD is the one that is really stretching it. A 45 Gb patch to prepare for the big 90 Gb patch a week later ?? Followed by a 28 Gb patch a couple of days later to fix the things the previous patch broke. I can imagine a casual game of COD is out of the question if you start up the game and there is a 30+ GB patch / update waiting for you.
But what is up with the insane patch sizes ? On other systems patches are around 5 Gb and on Xbox they are like 45Gb ? Is that lazy programming or just the way the Xbox works ? It seems to be heavily related to COD because other games don’t seem to have those big differences in patch sizes.
@ZuneTattooGuy People talk about this like it reduces it drastically, it doesn't. I have Black Ops Cold War installed, no warzone or anything else, just Cold War. I've already deleted the campaign as I finished that years ago and it's still sitting at 200gb. I can uninstall the multiplayer, which will reduce it by 56gb. The zombies, which will reduce it by a further 16gb plus a further 7gb for dead ops. And the hi-res pack is 17gb. All that doesn't even come to 100gb so there's an additional 100gb of space being taken up by...nothing it would appear.
The reason it is so big is because you are FORCED to install parts of the game you might not want. Warzone, COD HQ etc. If all you want to do is play the campaign that 150 - 240GB is an absolute joke.
Off topic, but this game has the worst Ui and menu’s I’ve ever seen in a modern game. I really hope next years game slims all that down and MS starts to make some changes to it. It’s really sloppy.
A 3 to 4 hour DLC takes up this much space? This is a nightmare start for Acti/Blizzard and Xbox. Really bad.
Why not just release it as DLC and charge 30 quid? Zero way this is a 70 quid game.
Really disappointing start. Let’s hope this isn’t a sign of things to come from Phil and Xbox.
@HonestHick
This is a really disappointing start to the new Xbox company!
There are more games with size over 200GB. Flight Simulator 2020 for example. Microsoft should drop the ban of using external USB SSDs for Series X/S Games. I use it for some older non-X/S (yet still big) games, and I can't see any difference from
the scenario when they are installed on the internal storage.
And I hope that next generation of XBox will feature USB4/Thunderbolt in order to enable full speed of external disks.
@BaldBelper78 well in fairness this game and all its decisions were made solely under ABK. We won’t start seeing some MS moves on these games until 2024 and beyond. Bobby has COD a mess and countless other titles. Happy to see him gone in early 2024.
