Josh Sawyer Reveals The Obsidian Game He'd Revisit With A 'Baldur's Gate 3 Budget'

Xbox's Obsidian Entertainment is already hard at work on Avowed, but this is a dev team that seems to always have multiple projects spinning up at once, and the studio's design director has hinted at one Obsidian series he'd like to revisit - given the right budget.

Speaking with TouchArcade, Josh Sawyer was asked about 'Pentiment 2', 'Pillars of Eternity 3' or 'Fallout New Vegas 2' as potential future projects, and Sawyer's answer may surprise some of you! Here's what he had to say:

"I don’t think I would make Pentiment 2. I really do feel very satisfied with that game. It’s not like I don’t wanna return to it ever, but I just did it, so I’d probably wait a little bit. I think if it truly was an unlimited budget, I think I would try Pillars 3 because I know what the budget was for [Pillars of Eternity 2] Deadfire, which was not a whole lot and I have heard from multiple people what the budget was for Baldur’s Gate 3, and I’m not gonna talk about numbers, but if I got that budget, sure, I’ll make Pillars 3."

Obsidian seems very focused on Pillars of Eternity right now then, at least as an IP in general. Their upcoming Xbox exclusive Avowed takes place in the Pillars universe, and it appears that if the team was given a "Baldur's Gate 3 budget", it would consider revisiting the series again in its traditional CRPG format.

For now, it seems like Avowed is the focus anyway. Obsidian's first-person take on the Pillars of Eternity world is heading to Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2024. It'll be on Xbox Game Pass on day one when it launches as well!

Which of the three examples would you like to see Obsidian tackle? Let us know in the comments secion below.
