Out of nowhere, Ubisoft has quietly announced today that Tom Clancy's The Division 3 is in the works! The news was revealed in a blog post about Julian Gerighty becoming Executive Producer for The Division brand as a whole.
Gerighty previously worked as Creative Director on the first two Division games, and he's currently doing the same for the impressive-looking Star Wars: Outlaws. As soon as that game ships, he'll be moving back over to the Division team.
"Now, he’s setting his sights on Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, as well as the plethora of other projects set in The Division universe, including the mobile game Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, and the survival-action shooter Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland."
It sounds like development hasn't actually begun yet on The Division 3 however, with Ubisoft stating that a core focus of Gerighty's role will be to "build a team" for the game while still making sure The Division 2 "remains well supported".
We do at least know for a fact that Massive Entertainment will be the developer on The Division 3 - this is the same studio behind The Division and The Division 2, as well as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and the new Star Wars game.

Awesome news. Both Divisions were great looter-shooters. Good luck, Massive Entertainment!
My sister and her husband play the second one regularly. The story got weird for me. I really enjoyed the tone and loneliness of the first one. Really felt like a post-apocalyptic New York. I'm hoping they can capture that feeling again in the third one.
Good to hear. I hope Massive Entertainment will make the game good from the start instead of after some patches like TD 2
@RedShirtRod even though I did like the frozen New York more, apart from the setting itself Division 2 is better in all other aspects. Just forget about the loneliness and fluffy snow of the first one and give the second a fresh start
Great news, spent hundreds of hours playing the first 2! Hopefully the wait isn't too long but sounds like there just getting ramped up
What happened to F2P Division Heartland? 🤔
The Division 2 has been one of my favorite games in the last years.
Love The Division. Wish Division 3 was out tomorrow.
Awesome news, the f2p division game is one thing but a new full fledged division game is such a great excuse for me to play with some of my friends again ðŸ˜
(Beside the fact that the games are grossly underrated and one of the more technically impressive games out there)
You know, I bought these games dirt cheap but have never actually sat down to play them.
So what happened with XDefiant?
