Alright, so we know we've been talking about Final Fantasy 7 Remake for years now without any sign of it arriving on Xbox, but perhaps this time things will be different?! Yesterday, as part of the PlayStation State of Play event for September 2023, it was revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has a PS5 exclusivity window of just three months.
That means that technically, we could be playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Xbox as soon as May 29th, 2024. The big caveat is that an exclusivity window doesn't necessarily mean it's coming to Xbox - it could just be a PC version.

Looking back, Final Fantasy 7 Remake's exclusivity window expired in April 2021, and yet we still haven't seen it on Xbox consoles as of yet. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was also only supposed to be a timed exclusive on PS5.
The big difference this time around is that Square Enix recently patched things up with Xbox and announced plans to bring more games to Microsoft's consoles in the future, including Final Fantasy 14. Now more than ever, we're crossing our fingers that SE will be able to bring this entire suite of modern Final Fantasy 7 titles to Xbox in 2024.
We don't want to get our hopes up too much... but it's about time we saw these games on Xbox Series X|S!
What do you think? Will we get Remake and Rebirth on Xbox next year? Tell us your thoughts below.

Launch title for the Switch 2
Still undecided about this. Loved the original and did like the first part of the fake/remake version but the end has left me wondering. Might wait to see about on PC.
Wonder if it will do a Mass Effect 2 where the first game actually came out on PS3 AFTER the second game. Or if the first game will ever come to Xbox.
It's definitely coming to Xbox, 3 months after Starfield launches on PS5..
Yeah, Square is feeling the pain of ps5 exclusiveness at home in Japan, with the switch dominating over there. Apparently their investors are not really happy with how SE is performing lately. They want to release final fantasy vii and xvi on the switch 2 next year, and xbox will profit of that as well.
That’s what my guts are telling me at least.
Drop that double pack after 3-months. I’ll scoop it 🤘
With the wording saying ‘format’ imo it sounds more to PC first.
I honestly dont care if it comes or not - SE sucks. Their best days are a speck in the rearview.
But it would provide entertainment value from playstation obsessives - who are always good for a few laffs.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner Could also be iPhone 15 Pro judging by the Apple event earlier this week.
@themightyant I forgot all about how that first one was locked behind 360 for years.
I mean, at this point the obsession of FF7R on Xbox comes off a little comical. All of the systems have their strengths and specific games; Xbox has shooters and is quickly locking down western RPGS, and if you’re into fighters and JRPGs you’ve already got a PS5 anyway.
If it happens, it happens. But interpreting every sign as something bigger is heading into “Half-Life 3 confirmed” territory.
Is final fantasy 7 better than the borefest that is ff 16..or isit more of the same with just a different battle system
@EvenStephen7 indeed! The first game actually came out just before the third game on PS3, over 5 years later. Hopefully not!
not everyone has an X Box Series console.
I only have an X Box One S and I play games on that
A bit too late for me. I'm trying to sell the xbox. I'll get it on PC.
PlayStation Exclusive* 😂
FF7 remake is my currently playing for ps5 and it has been a struggle for me to get through. I am not enjoying it at all. I cant bring myself to give up completely but it is also clogging my ps5 backlog.
The combat is just plain bad. I can't stand the mix of real-time hack n slash and the constant need to pause and select an action for one or multiple characters. I wish it was either fully real-time or fully turn based.
The story also seems weird with the amazing graphics. Something about the old art style made the plot seem less ridiculous.
😂 dont get daft ,its pc and ps only ,there's more chance of starfield being on ps in 3 months than this.
@StylesT 7 is better than 16
Lol OK well let me add fuel to the fire. Did anyone else notice that Square ALSO announced that they would be selling the first part of the trilogy and the second part as a package? Kind of interesting, considering that surely the vast majority of playstation fans who are so inclined have played the first part by now....just saying....
@BacklogBrad you too?! I was able to get about 14 hours in, but....I just wasn't enjoying it. It's SO PADDED! it's obvious that Square was determined to make multiple parts out of it, so EVERYTHING is a slog designed to make everything you do take longer. I'm glad it isn't just me, I really don't like it.
@Lup I'm not exactly sure why you're laughing that, it's quite refreshing that Sony are so transparent about the exclusivity period for games as most others don't do that and make games appear like they are full exclusives.
Bear in mind it's not for Sony to announce releases on other platforms either so they are pretty much providing all the information that they can.
@StylesT So...the battle system with FF7R is...an interesting mix. You use basic attacks to raise the ATB Bar that is then used for Special Attacks/Cast Magic (so instead of waiting for the ATB Bar like the original, you are actively doing stuff).
You are also encouraged to swap playable characters on the fly to leverage their abilities.
Tifa is a combo machine, though! She's, in my opinion, the main damage dealer, followed by Cloud. Barret is okay - good for fighting ranged, but he's also just a tank that can absorb damage, and of course Aerith is the magic caster healer.
It's still very real-time, but much more strategic. Kind of mixes and matches old and new. I think there is an actual "Classic" options that gives it the feel of the original ATB style (though not exactly) - basically your character is on Auto-attack while you wait for the ATB bar to rise. It's been a while since I played.
Unlike the original game, you do have set party members for each Chapter. There is no swapping them out at a certain point. But, I think throughout most of the Midgar section of the original game, you are pretty much locked into using certain character at certain times (again, been a while). So I guess that makes sense.
I wonder if the business deal for FF16 on Playstation wasn't worth the potential sales across Xbox consoles. Or perhaps Xbox amended their GamePass offer with Square.
100% just for release on PC.
No way they'd release the second part of the remake without doing the first.
@EvenStephen7 The PS5 has no jrpgs. if you are into jrpgs you play them on the Switch. Any fighter on the PS5 is on the XSX.
Don’t do it. Don’t feed hope destined to be ridiculed in 3 months time. Everybody and their dog knows that it’s referring to the PC version. Xbox will be lucky if it sees FF7 remake next year…it certainly ain’t gonna be seeing this. That bags long been spent
This will be coming to PC after that. Seems unlikely it’s on Xbox end of May.
@Kaloudz Don't shoot the messenger!
Think they may mean pc but, considering you can buy both in a bundle may mean that it’s finally coming over
@Cashews
“The PS5 has no JRPGs”
The Final Fantasy franchise and other Square Enix games say otherwise, along with a bunch of more obscure ones. Plus tons and tons of games that aren’t exclusive. Not sure where “no JRPGs” comes from; every console has them.
“Any fighter on PS5 is on XSX”
Also not true. Street Fighter 5 is a big one. Also lots of collection like Art of Fighting Anthology that are important to fighting fans, especially those of us who are trying to preserve its history.
You may not be a fan of these examples, but they’re well-rated and popular (well, SF5 was better received by the community once it got past that awful launch and into Champion Edition). And if you’re a fan of fighters or JRPGs, they’re probably a reason why you have a PS5 as well.
I honestly think everyone should own all the systems because of their various strengths, but I also respect that not everyone can afford that either. But people act like the Xbox doesn’t have any good games and they need to obsess over what’s available elsewhere.
@Zochmenos Switch is probably the bigger JRPG for sure, though PS still has some big exclusives. I just meant if you’re super into JRPGs and fighting games (or honestly just super into video games period) you probably have other consoles and means to play these. It’s best when games are available to everyone so I hope SE one day decides it makes financial sense to put FF on XB. Until then, Xbox has tons of other great games without focusing on what the other ones have. It’s the same advice I have to PS owners who were desperately looking for signs that Starfield was still coming to PS5.
100% FF7 double pack coming to Xbox next year. June 2024. I have seen the leaks. Also on gamepass. Thank me later.
@Darylb88 FInal Fantasy VII remake games should be released for the X Box One. Not just for the frikkin X Box Series console
I lost interest in FF a ways back so it doesn’t really matter to me one way or another, but given recent news about Squares overall financial situation, might be a smart move to stop thinking about exclusivity deals and start being truly multi-platform. I think Sony will try and buy them so might not matter one way or another.
I used to love every release of Final Fantasy and wanted it ASAP. But, since the FF7 Remake, FF XIV, and FF XVI exclusivity I haven't went and played a single Square Enix game. Going to take a few more years or bargin bin discounts to get me to pick up another Square Enix game anytime soon.
Removed - trolling/baiting
Come on everyone. Be positive. We have wanted this for years and then as soon as there’s a smidgen of hope, most people are trashing the game and Square Enix.
Yes, SE has been bad recently and their treatment of Xbox fans, particularly their lack of communication with us, has been disrespectful at least. But all added third party games to Xbox are a bonus.
I really, really want this game on Xbox. Let’s hope Square Enix learns from all of this and respects Xbox fans again.
Do we really need this kind of articles? With respect, it makes you look like beggars. It's one game(no matter how important it is). If it comes it comes, if it doesn't then so be it. It's not like there's a shortage of games Xbox players have to look forward to.
SE has lost $2 billion in value whatever they’re doing isn’t working. I think soon they’ll have no option other than release on every platform they can.
with Phil meeting with the new ceo of SE and saying they will coorporate more + how SE is performing lately and old ceo saked, i would say that square finally realized that taking easy upfront money isnt the best, xbox players feels like SE keep on givving them the middle finger is building hate toward the brand and the IP is not growing into lot of kids and new gamers because of that.
i would say SE would be stupid not to release FF remake and rebirth on xbox and instead of FF being used by PS fans to debate and build hate into xbox gamer they better take the neutral position today PS is the bigger brand but maybe tomorrow xbox will be bigger
With the rumour the original FF7 remake was on display to devs to show the power of the Switch 2 👍. Could 2024 be when Xbox at least gets the first FF7 remake to go with Final Fantasy 14.
Xbox gets that rubbish online old game instead lol makes no difference to me I'll play it on ps5
Another aspect that is interesting regarding this remake trilogy — SE has broken FFVII into 3 games. All will have sizable dev budgets, though one would think the cost would decrease after the first. The added cost also brings 3 chances (and financial quarters) to show profit. The games are not as profitable as SE would like. (Which of their releases are?) How will that affect the company's decisions going forward?
Good. Means a PC port shouldn't be far down the road.
I'd buy a PS5 to play this if I had to, but I'm totally willing to wait a while and not invest in a new platform I won't do much with otherwise.
Played FF7 Remake on my PS4 Pro and found it difficult while FF15 was much easier and still early on in the game. I quit Remake when I couldn't beat the damn robot boss after an hour. If they had an easy mode I would be happy to continue on well. My Series X is still my go to system.
After 3 months the may get it for PC, but not for Xbox for sure. But anybody can play in FFVII already on Xbox. It's just not a Remake
who cares I waited >20 years can wait a year more
@Zochmenos No he isn't correct about the fighters on PS vs Xbox. Its not close at all. PS has way more fighters. More than both Xbox and Nintendo. We're nit gonna split hairs here and say "the fighters that matter". It would be no different than saying that for JRPGs. No matter how notable the title is. The quantity was the point here, not quality.
Interesting. Very interesting ...
@Zochmenos The point is there are more fighters on PlayStation than on other consoles. That's not debatable. Its facts. This ain't about what console is better than the other. That's subjective. What's not subjective is the amount of fighters availablw on PS. Like I said, its quantity that was being discussed, not quality. Even quality terms it's better on PS and thats what it is. You may have not like SFV, but it became a great fighter after 2 years after it launched.
Oh and I'm with you with the Dreamcast. It's still my favorite console of all time. 😁
Zero chance this game comes to Xbox. Would be a miracle if it happened. No way it happens.
Screw Sony. They are just a terrible company
@Zochmenos Xbox is the only system you could play Killer Instinct and that is all that matters. There is no other fighting game in its likeness. My fav is still UMVC 3 due to
being so fun with many characters and doesn't take itself seriously. SF6 is now available for Xbox but got bored with it. Power Rangers is even more fun to play surprisingly in its current state and Ryu and Chun LI are available lol.
