Right, so, yesterday we reported on a brand new ESRB rating for Minecraft on Xbox Series X|S - we thought a 'next-gen' version of the title could have been imminent following such a rating. Well, apparently not! Microsoft has today come out and shut down any speculation on a new version of Minecraft.
The Xbox owner has provided a statement to Eurogamer that effectively squashes any chances of Minecraft on Xbox Series X|S, at least for the time being. Here's what Microsoft had to say on the matter:
"Given the number of platforms and geographies in which Minecraft is available, we periodically go through rating reviews and updates with different regional boards [...] This recent rating is not indicative of any new versions or platform support for Minecraft in the near future."
Well, we guess that's it for now then! Of course, nothing can be totally ruled out for the future, but given this 'next-gen' version of Minecraft has been hanging around since pre-release Xbox Series X demos, it doesn't look like Microsoft has any plans for an imminent current-gen release. Bummer!
Why hasn't Xbox delivered a next-gen port for Minecraft yet?! Drop your thoughts on this puzzling situation down below.

Well that's disappointing. Still holding out for Minecraft RTX that was playable both to press before the console even launched and then snuck into an update before being hastily removed. Yes some concessions will have to be made but i'd like to give it a go.
Quite strange when a huge IP like Minecraft does not get a "next gen" update.
Dafuq, Microsoft.
