A few weeks ago, we highlighted how Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew was getting a fantastic reception following its August 17th release on Xbox, but now the studio behind it has announced plans to officially close its doors.
That studio is the Shadow Tactics and Desperados 3 developer Mimimi, which explained in a statement that the team felt it was the right time to "prioritize our well-being" and avoid signing up for "another multi-year production cycle".
Here's a bit of what the statement had to say:
"Dedicating the past decade and a half of our lives working on increasingly ambitious games took a heavy personal toll on us and our families. After the release of Shadow Gambit we decided it was the right time to prioritize our well-being and to pull the brakes instead of signing up for another multi-year production cycle".
Despite this, Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew will continue to be supported for the foreseeable future, with a patch currently being worked on for the game alongside a "big content drop" coming later this year.
It's definitely the end of an era though, with this fantastic studio going out on a high note after nearly 15 years of making some beloved games. The company says it will be doing "everything in our power" to help staff members find new jobs.

This is genuinely upsetting! Shadow Gambit is perfect 😢
Always sad whenever a dev closes down. Mimimi had effectively created their own sub genre in strategy games, and their latest (Shadow Gambit) has been getting good reviews.
Sadly, all good things come to an end eventually.
It seems they are stopping to be with their families and not because of poor sales? Likely the investors wanted a return on their investment and kept the pressure on but ultimately damaged this studios ongoing existence for quicker profits (or maybe I’m just reading into it to much).
A good reminder of how important it is to keep a good work/life balance.
They’ve prioritised the right thing.
Sounds like they were devoting their next year to playing Starfield …
I love desperados, and I intend to get shadow gambit soon as well. They were my favorite "niche" genre of game...It is very sad indeed that they are shutting down, but it seems like the right thing to do. I mean, mental health should always come first, and I hope they reunite again at some point in the future.
At least they're going out on their own terms.
Why can’t studios just do 9-5 working hours? They all seem to do crunch and it’s so physically and mentally unhealthy and unstable. I don’t get it, don’t burn out your people by giving them impossible deadlines.
Never even heard of this game
I tried the demo and really liked it. I am still planning to buy it down the line.
This is just sad news...kinda feel a bit guilty for not supporting the game on day one bit unfortunately im not made out of money
