Back in July, you may recall that GameSir announced the "world's first Xbox controller with Hall Effect Sticks", and now we've got another one coming from Hyperkin in the form of "The Competitor".
This controller was actually revealed a little while ago, but the addition of Hall Effect Sticks and Hall Effect Impulse Triggers is entirely new. Here's what Hyperkin has to say about these important features:
"The biggest update to the controller is the inclusion of hall effect analog sticks and hall effect impulse triggers. Hall effect sensors use magnets in their design to detect movement, meaning high precision gameplay without risk of deterioration. Say goodbye to stick drift and trigger wear!"
Hall Effect Sticks: Ensures quick, accurate, and responsive control, giving you the competitive edge in every game.
Hall Effect Impulse Triggers: Experience realistic feedback as you feel every shot, explosion, and impact, with hall effect precision.
The reason for the "Competitor" name is because of the unusual analog stick layout in this controller — it's obviously much more reminiscent of PlayStation rather than Xbox — although it's still exclusively being built to support Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Windows PC devices.
We don't have too many more details yet, with Hyperkin stating that information on pricing and a release date will be revealed at some point in the future. In the meantime, we'll throw some images down below.

I'll pass. The analogue stick layout is a total fail, as far as I'm concerned. This is the very reason I chose Xbox as my primary platform and I only really use my PS5 to play exclusives; I find the stick layout feels unnatural and, most importantly, uncomfortable during extended play sessions.
That is one of the ugliest Xbox controllers I have ever seen 😮😮😮😮
still not wireless I guess...
So it has a wire, and still no gyro.
I wonder if we're ever going to get an Xbox controller that's not stuck in the stone ages.
Nice to see hall effect controllers hitting the market for Xbox. The GameSir one seems to have decent reviews, there's also one from Snakebyte.
Not sure about the layout or look of this Hyperkin one, but I like the tongue in cheek name!
No back paddles, no buy
no back paddles, ps5 layout, no thanks
Every positive about this controller is cancelled out by a couple of negatives.
Boo analogue sticks are in the wrong place! This might be a good controller for 2-D games though.
And say hello to hand cramps with that Sony style thumb stick layout. I would rather buy a controller that breaks and has off set sticks for comfort than this. Happy for anyone that likes it. But no thanks for those sticks.
Got to say wired AND PS layout makes it a hard pass for me. Hopefully I'll see this hardware on another controller down the line.
Symmetrical thumbsticks?
**Throws up in mouth**
Why the crap would you make it a lesser Playstation design and not even make it wireless and no rear buttons? Can you fail any harder?!?!
I hate it. Looks awful. My elite series 2 drifts a bit then after a minute works fine
Centered sticks is absolutely no go for me.
That is the very reason I'm all Xbox and not own a Playstation. Off center sticks just feel so much more natural and comfortable. At least to my experience.
That controller should make fans of the PlayStation “2d first” design happy.
thats a major fail with that stupid thumbstick layout
woah epic fail indeed we dont need Sony lookalike Controllers on xbox....
Looks pretty slick, but why wired? We've had wireless controllers for decades, and they've been the norm for three generations. Good to have wired as an option, and I use mine with a wire often to save battery power, but it should be standard on all but the budget options.
Can't do that stick placement. It's one of the big reasons the PS3 was my only Playstation.
What company in their right mind would make an Xbox exclusive controller with that layout? No Xbox gamer wants that layout because it is inferior, and they will find out pretty quick when they realize poor sales.
