We've got some Fable news to share today, as the game's Narrative Lead, Anna Megill, has announced she will be departing the team this August, stating that "the time feels right for new challenges".
Megill, who previously worked on the likes of Control and even Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, shared the news on social media earlier today, enthusing that Fable remains in very good hands. Here's a look:
"Friends, I have news. In August, I’m stepping away from my role as Narrative Lead on Fable. I’ve had several wonderful years scribbling away in my fairytale cottage, but the time feels right for new challenges.
Working on Fable was a dream come true for me, and it’s wrenching to leave it behind. But Playground has assembled a Heroically talented team, so I know it’s in good hands. I'm excited for what’s coming next—for them and for me."
Of course, the last thing we saw of Fable was the trailer back at the Xbox Games Showcase 2023, and as impressive as it was, it still feels like the game has years to go until release. You never know though, maybe we're wrong!
Whatever the case may be, we're still very confident that Playground Games can pull off something special with Fable when it arrives in the future, and we're sure Megill's work will have a significant impact on the final product.
When do you think Fable will finally arrive? Tell us down in the comments section below.

Almost reads like writings just finished… god knows how far away this game is. That’s the double-edged sword, particularly with Xbox, of wanting ‘surprises’ at these shows… worse when a trailer plays as well as fable did.
The positive thing is it looks like the writings on point. And it would be pretty awesome if bosses in this game do actually introduce themselves ‘office mocumentary style’ before you fight them… pretty unique adding personalities to bosses beyond ‘bad guy’. Be a shame if that’s just for the sake of the trailer imo
@Bleachedsmiles Oh that would be funny!
Maybe the whole thing is a mocumentary where it's not just bosses, but quest givers, major characters, etc. all have little speaking parts that could get cut to at random (non-gameplay-breaking) moments.
Would also be a great way to show off the Velocity Architecture/Direct Storage too as it seamless cuts from gameplay to interview and back again.
It would definitely make it a unique way to tell the story in a video game.
the mc is a tranz
Chicken chaser 🙄
@GamingFan4Lyf unfortunately I think it was probably just for the benefit of the trailer. The only thing giving me hope is that you don’t waste an actor like Richard Ayoade on simply a boss fight without any room for comedy there - least I hope they wouldn’t.
What would also be very welcome would be if every boss/key character is a uk comedian… I’m thinking Matt Berry playing an ego driven cowardly king. Imagine Ricky Gervais as the very final boss… oh man, Carl Pilkington should be the new narrator!
@Bleachedsmiles Only name I recognize is Ricky Gervais...but I don't follow the comedy scene much...plus: American.
This stuff is protected normal , what do I know...but to me it reads mildy poorly. I don't think it's a good sign when a lead leaves before launch. Again I'm sure it happens but to me it's just another worry I have for xbox first party games in general and Storytelling.
@Bleachedsmiles a true ensemble of British comedians being the villains in this game would be amazing. There is so much they could do with that, but I think we’d have seen more if anyone other than Richard Ayoade was in it (let’s hope though).
@GamingFan4Lyf if you want to get a taste of some British comedy watch a couple episodes of the IT Crowd and Derek and that will show you all the names mentioned above. Derek is newer and more likely easier to get into for Americans, but I have some US colleagues who love the IT Crowd.
@GamingFan4Lyf you should check out the Ricky Gervais show on YouTube. Or An idiot abroad… you’ll soon get an idea of who Carl Pilkington is and see why he’d be a perfect replacement for Steven Fry from the original games 👍
