Xbox boss Phil Spencer is always open about how much he enjoys being a part of the gaming industry, and in the wake of Microsoft's big summer blowout, the man has a message for all who enjoy these sorts of gaming get-togethers.
In a tweet posted yesterday, Phil thanked the gaming communities, press, dev teams and more who were involved in putting everything together this summer - including the big Xbox Games Showcase of course.
As expected for Phil, he's also spent some time playing games himself over the last few days. Not only did we see the man hop into some 33 Immortals during the Xbox Extended Showcase, Phil also mentioned some of the games he tried out during the 'Play Days' event in L.A.
"Really impressed with Play Days. Getting to drop by and see Alan Wake 2, Armored Core, Mortal Kombat and so may more games. Impressive setup at Play Days, a necessary and important part of the week."
He's been a busy man over the last week or so, then — as have we here at Pure Xbox — and we appreciate the heartfelt message about us all getting together and enjoying games. With last year dominated by ActiBlizz news and a lack of Xbox exclusives, it's real nice to get talking about games again!
Have you enjoyed all of the gaming goodness from this last week or so? Drop your favourite moment of showcase season down in the comments below.

That should have been an internal communication. It has nothing to do with us. There is no reason to celebrate before you've released anything and are in dead last place by a huge margin.
Neat videos Phil. Also, you are fired.
@Cashews I get it was a bad year, but it's the reason he needs to promote confidence and enthusiasm to both his team and the wider Xbox community - so no, it's better as a public message IMHO.
Cheer up, it's going to be a great few years of gaming!
Think it was the successful "E3" season that Xbox needed after last year was too quiet on the first-party front.
Between first and third party games, the rest of 2023 looks busy, while 2024 and 2025 is looking pretty stacked - was happy with what I saw
@Cashews totally understand this sentiment. However I like Phil and think he is doing a good job. The one important thing he has done is to get Microsoft totally onboard with gaming. I know theere have been some lean years but I think we're on a major up swing.
@Widey85 I'm super cheery. I just bought my first xbox in 12 years just yesterday - really just because of the showcase. It sold the system over the playstation to me personally.
I just wouldn't send out messages acting like you've won anything - they haven't. that's me.
but what you said is also true the fired part was just a joke. I might can him after a few years though if he doesn't pick up sales.
@Cashews I'd tend to agree, if in a few years Xbox has lost more market share and not delivered from all these first party developers.
Welcome back btw - I was one of the idiots who stayed on Xbox in the One generation as university was all Xbox 360 with friends so they were going that way too.
But then had to get a PS4 too in order to play with friends and family outside that group, as everyone else went Sony - so I can't say much as for a few years my One was pretty quiet.
Game Pass drew me back as did Forza Horizon, and given I've always loved western RPGs I think I'm in the right place
@Widey85 360 was all I played for about 5 years (except Nintendo handhelds which I have always played and always will) > PC first gamer > all Switch until now. I got this system solely because of Street Fighter - otherwise I would have been fine with the Switch until a new 3 came out.
I was literally about to pull the trigger on the PS5 until the god awful showcase they put out. I decided to wait and MS blew them away. Good for them seizing this one opportunity at least!
I have a suspicion I'm not the only one though. It was a bear finding a non bundled console and incredibly hard finding the disc of SF6. cheers!
Hard to take anything Phil tweets seriously with that ridiculous logo.
@Cashews Nice well if you've got a decent PC you can probably play the exclusives you miss from Sony's side within a year or two anyway, while yes at the moment Xbox has the more exciting line up in my opinion...
Enjoy!
@Cashews why should it be internal? It was a message to everyone involved with all the showcases and events, not just Xbox.
Armored Core VI is also another hyped AAA franchise that's resorting to 30fps! Embrace it as the norm, folks, as we're probably not getting mid-gen refreshes to push out 60fps again.
"We need that moment here where we come together to celebrate"
not at 30 fps bruh.
@Jark That's the one scenario I'd welcome refreshes - ones that still allowed the base PS5 and Series owners to play, but allowed 60fps or much higher ray tracing for those who really want that out of consoles which let's face it are a bargain compared to gaming PCs.
I can't tell 30 from 60 as my reactions are those of a sloth, but I'd happily buy them if I could crank up the 4K and ray tracing while others can dial them back for 60 or even 120hz...
@Jark I'm not going back to 30fps. Any game that does not support 60fps, I'll just play on PC.
I still would rather play on console if the game supports 60fps, due to features like achievements and quick resume, but not enough to play new games at 30fps.
Edit: there might be some exceptions, but not if they are first person perspective games.
I guess he's trying to be positive here, fair enough it seems like the road map ahead seems brighter now. Let's just hope they can actually deliver 🙏
He’s not wrong. Too many comparisons and not enough celebrations. The last 2 weeks have been wild, hundreds of games shown across all platforms and genres. Dozens I want to buy, dozens more I’ll keep an eye on. Gaming is in a great place right now.
@Tharsman turns out I might be wrong about Armored Core VI. The store page trailers and initial reveals some months back were obviously 30fps to me, but last week's SGF gameplay demo seemed to be running at 60. I think a lot of us, including myself, can tell the relative difference between 30 and 60 fps at a glance (though if I had had a 120Hz screen and got used to 120fps gameplay, I'm not sure if I could differentiate the differences between 30 vs 60 and 60 vs 120 in trailers... not like there are any 120 fps trailers anyway).
(I can't abbreviate it as "AC" as that'll just confuse my brain with "Assassin's Creed" if I were to come back and read any response to this later lol).
@Widey85 Give yourself some credit. Watch some Digital Foundry or similar series of videos and soon you'll be able to visually differentiate between a framerate and half or double its amount, i.e. 30 vs. 60.
@Jark It's ok, I can tell 4k from upscaled 4k so I'm probably better off not noticing frame rates so I can benefit from quality modes
