The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is now out on store shelves - even if arguably it shouldn't be given the many issues reviewers have faced during their hands on time with the game. And, well, despite what we called some 'dreadful' early review scores, the game has charted here in the UK - at least in physical form.
Last week's UK boxed game sales figures have been released, and The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has hit number six in its launch week. We don't have the actual numbers here, but it's broken into the top-10 for physical sales in the region.
However, gamesindustry.biz says that the game's launch figures are "weak" - even if it has managed number six on the charts. Still, according to the outlet Gollum has done better than Lego 2K Drive managed in the UK during its launch window; the week prior.
The LOTR name is likely helping push sales here then, we just hope that the team gets some patches out quickly to help smooth things over. Sure, many of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum's issues probably can't be solved with updates, but even so, the dev team has pledged to support the game with patches in the coming weeks and months.
Are you surprised that LOTR: Gollum has managed to chart in the UK? Let us know your thoughts down below.

And this is unfortunately going to be the takeaway for publishers. The horrific reviews, the embarrassing launch — it doesn’t matter if the game sells.
If you’re a giant publisher all you need to do is throw the $$ to secure a big franchise and know you’re likely to get a sizable return on your investment, regardless of the finished product’s quality. Even if it has a very weak sales tail, it did its job at launch — and the franchise name will always ensure that it’ll be picked up occasionally in the future (the holidays are just a few months away, and well-meaning relatives are prime shoppers for this).
One word - preorders
You have been fooled my precious
@Utena-mobile As a long-time Tolkien enthusiast, it doesn't bug me these non-canonical corporative products fail. Things like Shadows of War, Gollum, Rings of Power, and the future Warner Bros. films.
They are not made by, nor directed to Tolkien fans.
I'd say most gamers don't care about forum people foaming at the mouth in a frenzy when some drama happens or a game is viewed poorly.
They see a box - they buy a game.
And being #6 week 1 of sales on the UK is just below meaningless. That's like 3000 copies. No one really cares.
