Xbox fans have been forced to wait almost half a year for any kind of Square Enix news, but now we finally have confirmation that at least one game from the publisher will release on Microsoft's platform in 2023. Phew!
That game is Infinity Strash: DRAGON QUEST The Adventure of Dai, which was announced a few hours ago for Xbox Series X|S (along with other platforms). Barring any further announcements, it will mark the first Square Enix game to arrive on Microsoft's platform since Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion in December of last year.
Here's a bit about what you can expect from this new Dragon Quest game on Xbox:
"The legendary DRAGON QUEST The Adventure of Dai manga and anime arrives as an exhilarating action RPG! Relive the events of the anime in INFINITY STRASH as you take charge of Dai and the Disciples of Avan in their battle against the Dark Army!"
Two of the key features in The Adventure of Dai include Bond Memories, which are items that recreate iconic scenes from the original manga, and the Temple of Recollection which features over 100 room combinations in an endless dungeon, "where monsters and traps change each time you enter".
Pre-orders are available now on the Xbox Store for £49.99 / $59.99, with a release date of September 28th, 2023.

So does this mean that I and many others were right and Sony is not quietly acquiring Square Enix? 😁 Now we just have to wait until the Xbox exclusion deals with Sony expire...
Why does everything have long arse names?
Are they feeling ok? Releasing on Xbox!!?
hopefully not the only game released for 2023...
What’s funny though is that the game is only listed in the Xbox store in Japan, but not part of the physical game collection on the SE website and not even mentioned in the email I received about the game.
So I would say at least in Japan many may end up thinking it won’t come to Xbox anyway.
Hopefully this is a sign that Microsoft & Square Enix have kissed & made up.
My hopium is telling me maybe SE and Xbox have a surprise reveal at the showcase
I hope poeple that like the dragon quest games buy this if its good of course to prove them wrong
Sony must have missed a payment on their “keep all games off Xbox” bill.
Congrats to the 100 people who will buy this game
Another way to look at this is that Sony looked at the game and thought it wasn't worth any investment in keeping it exclusive? Kinda sadistic way to look at it but if this was something special I'd imagine it would have been locked down.
@Kaloudz Or they're over them?
So, either Dragon Quest 12 is a safe bet for Xbox or Squenix is just being Squenix by only porting the spinoffs. Personally, I can't stand turn-based strategies (though I love tactics games), so this game being an ARPG looks like an easy purchase.
@UnusedBabyWipes I doubt any of those are the reason.
@Banjo- Well, let us hope for the best at the showcase. I'm high on hopium that their Japanese segment AT LEAST features them.
@UnusedBabyWipes Right. What I mean is that Sony didn't pay for the Xbox exclusion this time. I really hope that Square Enix games come to Xbox, even Final Fantasy games after the exclusion deals expire. Sony is doing that for hurting Xbox players because they are available on Windows and even on mobile phones.
Some people (Sony t... fans and pseudo-neutrals) replied to me that it was because of the development costs which is ridiculous because Windows DirectX12 and Xbox are basically the same thing and they mocked me. They say that the cost of porting games to Xbox is not worth it. Well, news today reveal that Square Enix are assuming the supposedly high development costs of porting a Dragon Quest spin-off to Xbox and news today reveal that those Sony fans were wrong. Or will they say now that Microsoft paid $1B for porting or for having this spin-off on Xbox or on Game Pass? Anything before blaming Sony.
This might just be to keep a bridge open between themselves and Xbox - like with Crisis Core.
Unfortunately, the chances are that Sony looked at the game and did not consider it worthy of pursuing exclusivity. Of course, they could get it wrong, and this game maybe excellent, just as they did with Forspoken, when they thought they were backing a quality exclusive, but weren't. However, in this case, I would suspect that this game will have middling reviews. Still, it is better to have more choice than less, and so it is a good step in the right direction to have Square releasing a game day one on the Xbox...
I hope FF16 comes to Xbox cause it does look decent to me. I am no FF fan in general as i haven’t played on in like 15 years. But this one looks like something I would try out. Suppose i could get it on my PS5 but i would be happier if it was multi platform.
Xbox paid for this, when it was initially announced it skipped xbox
And its also on windows and a play anywhere, stop blaming sony for xbox's own incompetence of getting games on the platform
They could've had ff16 as a exclusive if they really wanted to
@Tharsman Sony don’t pay Square Enix anything, Square Enix took the decision not to release Final Fantasy on Xbox as they said it wasn’t worth the extra work. Games sell far more on Playstation.
@Kaloudz If Gollum and his inbred brother had another sibling that spouted drivel it would be Jez…
Positive news and positive comments, then hark! Here comes the Sony trolls...
If MicroSoft wanted to shake up things then they should buy SE as well … no way it happens but would be interesting…
They release this spinoff turn based jrpg game on xbox but that crappy looking splatoon rip off is ps exclusive? It's like they don't want their games to do well.
It was paid for by Sony but still any game as a service type mulitplayer game with microtransactions should be multiplat if you want it to succeed.
SE will probably look at the sales of this niche dragon quest spinoff and say "see we don't need to release on xbox" when they look at their future AAA games.
I look at the article then the comments and I swear blind Sony live rent free in some peoples heads on here. Im just glad to see another good looking Japanese game coming to Xbox.
@Lastatopiny But Dragon Quest on Xbox is going to sell billions compared to what a FF game would sell on Xbox, so this is worth porting! Or…. We can just read in Yoshi P’s own words how Sony offer is the reason the game is PS5 exclusive.
@Mastodon3954 Thats a good good, nearly the whole series of FF would be on Xbox. I think with Squares new management and trying to get their games on more platforms to make money we will see FF16 someday or another on Xbox and PC, but i ain’t holding my breathe.
@Moonglow @Tharsman i’m just telling you what i read in numerous articles an interviews. You say they’re lying, nothing i can really say to that. Even is Sony did pay for exclusivity there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s business. Xbox did it in the 360 day when the player base was similar. Atari 2600 were the first to do it. If Xbox had the same size player base as Playstation they’d do it too.
@Lastatopiny I’m not saying they are lying because you didn’t provide any “they” links. I’m saying you either are confused, or misremembering, because it’s very very well known Sony paid for FF7 Remake and FF16 exclusivity, and although no one actually knows what’s the deal with the Pixel Remasters, the Square Enix game director spilled the beans about how Square Enix decides platforms last week.
Maybe it's just certain series Square choose to skip xbox, pretty sure xbox have had all the latest dragon quest games such as builders, heroes and 11s. So it's a sure bet xbox will also get dragon quest 12 which will undoubtedly be the best jrpg this gen.
And for those moaning about square games skipping xbox then this is your time to prove a point, go and support the game and show square enix that xbox players do indeed play JRPG's, and not show negativity such as saying only 100 xbox players will play it, it's things like that that make people think xbox players in general don't like Japanese games.
Yes; it’s certain series Square chooses to skip from Xbox, the ones Sony or Nintendo pay for. And I bought DQXI physically and digitally on Xbox, and physically on Switch, that’s how much I liked that game.
If this game holds up, I’ll be buying it.

Looky here, it seems Sony forgotten to put this game in their exclusion list against xbox.
Sony is laying low for right now. Sony is being investigated for anti competitive behavior for paying to keep games off xbox. And the backdoor shady deals that happen in Japan. I don't think they're gonna pay to keep games off xbox for right now. Not until sonys own investigation is over. Also, I always said the cma should be investigated, and sure enough there is a conflict of interest as one of the guys blocking the deal in the uk is an ex Sony lawyer.
@Moonglow they never said they can’t afford it they said the income from an Xbox version doesn’t justify the extra work involved.
Tell me, were you agsinst the Xbox360 have timed exclusives or was that ok?
Doesnt Dragon Quest have to come to all systems?
OMFG. Nothing for a year, then just as Sony gets the grim dark americanized Dante of War game masquerading as an FF game....... Xbox gets the スーパー かわいい anime Dragon Quest ARPG!?
Lol. Wtf goes on in the minds of square execs? Either that or Phil's inner weeb makes him only cave to their money demands for the most otaku games possible. 😂
..... Which I'm totally cool with
...
@The_FastLife should sony restarts and continues this shady deals, MS can go "alright no CoD for you then".
@NEStalgia umm Phil is channeling his inner NES?
@Banjo- cause Sony fanboys refuse to believe that Sony doesn't do anything wrong and they're always perfect
It's painfully obvious who the Sony fanboys are in this comment section. The only reason FF16 and the FF7 remake were PS exclusive is cause Sony paid for it. Why wouldn't you make a game as big as FF multiplatform, even if one console fanbase doesn't buy it as much, you're still leaving way too much money on the table. Hopefully by them putting this game on Xbox we could potentially see FF16 or DQ12 on the Xbox, cause I'm definitely not buying a PS just for those 2 games.
@MagicMan I find it hilarious that these pseudo-neutrals only post to claim Sony's innocence and to attack those that disapprove Sony's anticompetitive practices with silly old memes such as "Sony live rent-free in some people's heads." Pathetic.
@Ralizah They seem to be proud of Sony acquiring Square Enix when it's not happening, yet they deny what has been happening for years: Sony paying for Xbox exclusion deals regarding Final Fantasy VII Remake and Intergrade, Forspoken, Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection, Octopath Traveller II, Final Fantasy XVI, Bethesda's games before Bethesda was acquired by Microsoft and it's possible that I'm forgetting something else. They use Nintendo as a cheap and incoherent argument, they say that those games aren't coming to Switch either when they know very well that Switch can't run certain games and those than can be played are on Switch: Octopath Traveller II and Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection. They conveniently omit that all Square Enix games are coming to Windows.
@The_FastLife I hope that you are right and that Sony is investigated for anticompetitive practices and also that the CMA is investigated since the man that is blocking the deal in UK worked as Sony's lawyer.
@Belkan Sony hasn't accepted Microsoft's offer and they have been lying to the regulators, manipulating Microsoft's figures and hiding their own documents that reveal how the pay third parties to exclude Xbox and Game Pass, so that's exactly what they deserve now: investigations and a less friendly Microsoft.
@Banjo- Sony fanboys seem to think anyone who plays Xbox is akin to the special needs kids cause "SonY iS sUrPErioR"
@MagicMan Yes and they will always ask you if you disapproved that Microsoft paid for timed exclusivity for Rise of the Tomb Raider two generations ago, or mention that Amiga paid for exclusive games in the 80s 😂.
They think Sony is the holy grail in spite of Sony's full-priced remasters of remasters #4DAPLAYERZ and their lies: PS5 is the result of believing in a new generation... of cross-gen games (with upgrade fees).
With SE constantly putting some of their best games on PS as exclusive, I have stopped watching their games and no longer care what they release. They won't get a cent of my money until they go back to consistently releasing all titles on XB.
@MagicMan again, as long it's Playstation "it's alright, it's good, nothing will faze them". But if it's Xbox" they're bad they're the worst, Xbox has no games, Xbox can't catch up". Well PS showcase completely betrayed the PS fans.
@Banjo- Man...... If Sony doesn't sign deals. Sony can kiss CoD's a*s goodbye.
@Banjo- do you honestly think if Xbox had a player base equal to Playstation MS would do timed exclusive deals? I really think they would mate. They had a close player base in the 360 days an the 360 had numerous timed exclusives. Xbox One an Series S/X haven’t been able to as a huge majority of console games sell on Playstation. I don’t think Sony do it to hurt Xbox gamers as you say, they do it in the hope Xbox gamers will either switch to Playstation or buy both consoles. I’ve had every Playstation, Series X is my first Xbox. I bought it because i wanna play Starfield, Hellblade2, Indiana Jones an i’ve always wanted to try Forza Horizon. Always loved Gran Turismo an been told by Xbox gamers Forza is as good or better so wanted to see for myself. So the strategy does work. Had MS not bought Starfield, (Bethesda), i maybe wouldn’t have bought a Series X an i’d have never discovered Game Pass.
What the hell is a "strash"??
Japanese game titles are often so lame and cringeworthy 🙄
