Will GTA 6 come out this generation? We certainly hope so, but it's been a long development cycle so far for the team at Rockstar, and parent company Take-Two has hinted at one of the big reasons why.
Basically, Take-Two believes that Rockstar "seeks perfection" with its Grand Theft Auto games - a lofty aim that will surely add to development times. Speaking on an episode of the Good Time Show podcast (via PCGamer), Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the upcoming project and the series in general, and what it means to both Take-Two and Rockstar.
"That's a challenge that the folks at Rockstar face every time there's a new iteration of Grand Theft Auto [...] it needs to be something you've never seen before on the one hand, and it needs to reflect the feeling we have about Grand Theft Auto. That's a big challenge for the team..."
"Just seek perfection. Seek nothing short of perfection and we'll get there."
While the two teams seem to have similar goals in terms of creating another absolute mega-hit with GTA 6, the Take-Two CEO was keen to stress that the publishing side of things has its own perspective that must be taken into account.
"[Take Two] adopts our hits like they're part of us... and we take it personally if people screw around with them [...] It's not okay if the creators make a choice that is inconsistent with how we think these hits should be developed."
We hope that Rockstar and Take-Two manage to balance their individual expectations here, and that GTA 6 actually comes out sometime soon. Remember, we're only a few months away from Grand Theft Auto 5 becoming 10 years old - the Xbox 360 version launched on September 17th, 2013!
What do you think of these comments? Will we actually see GTA 6 anytime soon? Let us know your thoughts.

@Kaloudz I think they may have to either not make a brand new GTA online or just update the graphics of the current online mode, similar to what fortnite did with the new console versions.
Otherwise they will have GTA online and GTA 6 online which I can't see them doing, and they won't want to shut down the current one whilst it's still raking in the money.
"Just seek perfection. Seek nothing short of perfection and we'll get there."
So they’re looking for perfection and nothing short of perfection. Developers working on GTA 6, no pressure then.
Haven't they always shot for perfection?
It's gonna be V with a new coat of paint. And people will buy it anyways.
@Kaloudz yep it's currently getting between 90,000 to 150,000 players per day just on steam, 2.5 million per month according to trackers, and thats just one platform, add the amount that play it on xbox and playstation as well and you're looking at double that.
@Kaloudz this was from a year ago but still this is why they won't kill off the current GTA online

"GTA Online rakes in about $800 million yearly from Shark Cards alone. The new subscription model also provides great deals on Shark Cards, so the sales potential is rising. Since the game got ported to the next-gen consoles, many new players have joined the game. Digital revenue from the game accounted for 88% percent of Take-Two Interactive's earnings in the last quarter"
I honestly think GTA6 will be like nothing we’ve ever seen. GTA5 was fantastic, still holds it’s own but look how far ahead Red Dead 2 is. The number of things you can do an you can interact with anyone. The way people remember you and ya build a reputation. GTA6 will be well worth the wait. My only worry is the size!! I bet we’re looking at close to 200 gig!!
@Lup i think ya wrong. Look how far in front Red Dead 2 is to GTA5!!
To me this game represents the pinnacle of developer greed. I honestly don't understand how people get sucked into spending so much money in this game.
If it's like GTAV, it will be on the best-selling charts for 10 years, so I can understand their point of view. The GTA remasters are bad, though.
@Exerion76 I dont think they will do a Saints Row. GTA makes too much money for them to risk messing it up.
And to think someone wrote to his mother to ban it. This brings back memories

We know Benzies and Dan Houser have left Rockstar. We know there’s going to be a continued focus on the money machine that is the GAAS aspect of GTA. And we’ve heard it heavily rumoured to have its sp releasing in chapters.
Add that we’ve not seen anything SP related (dlc) since 2018s red dead 2 from Rockstar…
I can’t say I’m filled with confidence over GTA6. I reckon visually it will look great. That engines solid. But, I dunno…there’s just a few warning signs there for me
