Ghostwire: Tokyo Hits Major Player Milestone Following Xbox Game Pass Launch

I enjoyed it for the most part. I did some side questing and collectible hunting, but eventually opted to focus on the main story once I felt I upgraded enough.

I just can't do "collect-a-thon" stuff for Achievements (especially not in this game where there was like an overwhelming amount of stuff to hunt for).

Feels extremely low given it was on gamepass

Ghostwire Tokyo is a really cool game. Im enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would!

Still playing it to get all the spirits. It's my go to "chill" game currently where just exploring Tokyo itself is fun after a long day's work. Haven't seen a game so unashamedly Japanese in a long time! Definitely a game where if you like it, you'll really like it.

Ive put about 3 hours into it so far and I kinda like it, I've been to Japan twice so it's nice to see some areas in the game that haven't changed. Needs some Akihabara DLC though 😂.

I wish Tango and Arkane really hit homerun with their next projects. They've always made good games. Wish them all the best of luck to everyone at Tango.

@Kaloudz Yes playing it on gamepass via cloud on my backbone one, and there is DLC but it's not Akihabara 😂

Akihabara is a town in Japan which is known for its Anime aesthetics and advertising, maid cafes, gaming and electronics stores. Very colourful place lol

@Kaloudz I do yeah, I'm a huge anime/manga fan so that helps plus I like Japanese food a lot. I first went there in 2018 and I felt like I was in the a different world compared to the UK 😂, I'd love the next Forza Horizon to be based in Japan, would be cool driving around snowy Hokkaido.

@GamingFan4Lyf HI Fi Rush is a gem of a game but it's not mainstream none of their products are. I want them to become a household name for making great games.

I did rent it on ps5 on release but I get sidetracked and didn't play much...but I just completed it on gamepass ...pretty decent game

I’ve put about 25 hours in so far and In loving every minute of it, I really don’t understand why everyone was so down on this game.

I already deleted mine.
I got bored with it very quickly.
It just felt so repetitive.
I had most upgrades unlocked
I was about, maybe, I don't know, halfway through the game.
The story hook wasn't enough to keep me enthralled.

Does the 4 million include playstation numbers?

@obiwan3001 Yes it includes PlayStation 5 sales, PC and Xbox sales and people who played it "free" on gamepass and playstation plus.

Player counts are so utterly and completely meaningless I don’t understand how one would measure success from them. Current active players yes, but counting players who once started the game and then instantly stopped playing because they realised it was badly optimised offers nothing other than the risk of the next game being just as badly optimised

I really don't get what it is that makes a game perform well. This is a cinematic open world 1st person adventure. This and deathloop had the full on Sony marketing treatment plus game pass and still manage to be anemic. What makes the difference? I just don't get it.

Is it just that 1st person isn't popular anymore? It used to be...cod is top. What changed if so?

@NEStalgia 4 million is quite a milestone for niche game. Ghostwire is a FPS with powers/magic and a little bit of horror, so it is not comparable to COD at all.

Also, there is the New IP / Old IP thing. COD is known for years now, took time to reach the levels they are today, Ghostwire is a new IP.

@eduscxbox sure, compared to cod that makes sense. But even if we ignore game pass and just look at the PS5 launch on a platform with a bigger Japanese games market where Sony marketing sells sand in a desert..... It just.... Didn't happen. Despite being in their cinematic action wheelhouse.

@NEStalgia probably because it reviewed around a 7/10 (which isn’t bad by any stretch) but it’s not going to get high player numbers.

Let’s face it anyway player number numbers on plus/GP mean nothing anyway. Because so many download and play 20minutes, Depends if it sold sufficiently on release

I thoroughly enjoyed Ghostwire Tokyo and for anyone hesitant about the slightly repetitive, been there done open world format, I finished the game in maybe ten or twelve hours by largely skipping the side quests. The game is gorgeous and changing a couple of controller settings makes it a very smooth experience. Once I finished the story I actually wanted to crack on with the side missions and Spiders Thread DLC so now I can just hop in without getting burned out.

@Tonmoy Agreed, I gave Hi Fi Rush a good 45 minutes to an hour and it just wasn't for me but I recognized it as being a great game overall. Same with Elden Ring, I put in 10 hours then quit but still thought of it as GOTY for several reasons.

@PsBoxSwitchOwner sheesh, If 7/10 review scores have such a dramatic effect on sales that it's the difference between blockbuster record setting sales and a sort of flop, all thng being equal including Sony exclusivity and marketing power, this entire industry is so much more effed up than I've even cynically imagined. How did movies survive the 50% scores of siskel and Ebert all those years ago?

You might be right. I mean people talk about the power of Sony marketing yet they very heavily marketed these games and they went nowhere. Though I suppose even ratchet and clank was a sales bomb so even their famous franchises aren't moved just by the marketing or fame. I just can't figure out what makes that difference. R and c you could say ps customers don't like colors in their games but then ghostwire you'd think would fit right in. There's such a weird mystery to me in this industry these days. Maybe it's really just reviewed 9s are the only games that sell. Which is complete bs for so many reasons.

No hate no drama no bugs good visuals good premise good game.

Been coming back to this since it launched. At first I wasn't sure, the controls were janky and combat a bit basic, however I stuck with it and it's weirdly a very relaxing game (apart from the school mission). Just having a blast finding all the collectibles right now, still have a few chapters to go in the main story.
