Want to enhance your Xbox Game Pass experience? Come join the official Pure Xbox Game Club!
We can't take any credit on staff for this — the PX Game Club is the work of ralphdibny and the rest of the contributors over at the Pure Xbox forums, who have established a community that meets up every month to play a game on Xbox Game Pass and share their experiences. Games are voted on every month by the contributors involved.
The game for April 2023 is Gears of War, which is available on Xbox Game Pass and can be played in one of two forms - either the original Xbox 360 version, or the Ultimate Edition for Xbox One. The choice is up to you!
You'll find the forum thread to get involved below (it has over 2,490 entries to date!):
If you're interested in what kind of discussion goes on, here's what a couple of contributors had to say about last month's Pure Xbox Game Club title, Atomic Heart:
- themightyant on Pure Xbox:
"I REALLY wanted to like this game, there were elements I did enjoy and a few hours in I thought it might end up being great. It definitely wasn't all bad. But it was a frustrating experience as there were frequent glimpses of what could have been, but it was always just out of reach, and falling over itself. Hence I really can't recommend it. It's a shame as the dev seemingly did so much hard work in key areas, but just couldn't quite pull it all together into a seamless whole. But they have talent, that is clear, and I look forward to seeing what Mundfish make next."
- GamingFan4Lyf on Pure Xbox:
"I do hope that the developer is able to keep the lights on as I would like to see what else they accomplish. Atomic Heart wasn't a perfect game, but it's clear that the developers have talent that can only grow with time."

You know that's one game series I never played, perhaps now is a good time.
Y’know, I think I’ll participate in this month’s game. I do love the Gears series, and I’ve been meaning to replay them. This looks like it’ll be a perfect time, especially since I’m about to finish the Resident Evil 4 Remake.
I completed the ultimate edition last year and found it quite enjoyable, I would like to continue the series but I'm holding out for a Gears of war 2 and 3 ultimate editions so I get the best experience. Obviously 4 and 5 already have great visuals and upgrades, hopefully a Gears of war collection is on the way.
This was one of those games that left me breathless back in the day. The definitive edition was a very much welcome remaster that made it all so much better. It’s a nice game, although gears 2 and 3 keep being the high notes of this series for me tbh. I can’t wait to have those 2 remastered into a neat little bundle. This one is short and sweet, also serves as a baseline, because it did set the expectations of what would come with the sequels and never disappointed. Judgement and 4 are the runts of the litter and 5 is a nice change of direction while keeping that gears pedigree pretty much alive and going strong.
I have it installed and ready to go but the random announcement of Quantum Break leaving has sidetracked my intentions
@cmr_araujo meh , wish they would go back to the look of the original Gears 1 and 2 . it’s way too colorful and toned down now .
@Krzzystuff I really enjoyed QB (played on the game club). Also physical copies are fairly cheap if needed.
@nomither6 it is my first time playing the series but one thing I know that is typical of its time however the Gray/brown look is something I would prefer to be more colourful
@Balta666 yea but gears is too colorful now , the gray/brown literally fit the tone and setting of the franchise, it can work if it fits.
it’s never coming back but it’s something i always wish for . this simple short video summarizes it : https://youtu.be/JalWT8oNxhk
see how toned down everything is?
and too many games look cartoony or like shiny play-doe nowadays . i miss aesthetic variety .
